I always think I love the beach best, but every time you paint at stow lake it is one of my favorite videos. Love the group too, and Cedric’s poetic vibe. You encouraged me to nudge my artistic family members into their first plein air paint out at a local pond while I was visiting Utah. We all had a lot of fun, and I think they want to do it more often.
It's a beautiful feeling isn't it?? Please check in with them and check in with yourself primarily. The will power to exercise your talent can be rewarding. Please don't give up! Peace & Blessings.
Saw a video on water reflection where the artist pointed out that darks are always lighter and lights are always darker in the reflection…been observing in life and it’s true! Love the new perspective at Stow! Hey Tad!!
It's great seeing artists painting together! ... So much foilage and every green imaginable ... Without the bridge almost looks like a tropical rainforest scene ...
@@chamberlainpaintings My friend and fellow Plein air painter calls me the queen of green lol. I love trees and forests. Naturally I had to learn greens, in order to separate, make sense of dimension and distance in space, and shadows and light. I'm still learning water, which I also love. Your information about how to use the direction of painting reflections vertical and water movement horizontal to achieve realistic water was invaluable. Thank you for your videos. I especially love seeing the different styles of painting by different artists.
Really got the water and reflections down. Maybe some gradation in the light overcast sky? Loved seeing each artists compositions. A lot of great ideas.

@@CedricWilliamsFineArt I’m used to grey skies; we must take what we can get when we paint outside up in WA. I always like to come down to CA for relief from the grey, so I sympathize

Beautiful painting!! Love the reflections in the water and the composition. It’s got a very nice feel to it…Of course I’m a sucker for old structures!! Love that bridge
That’s a beautiful spot to paint. Good job, guys. BTW, I love Gamblin’s Asphaltum, it’s a rich transparent brown that works well with my other colors. It’s also perfect for painting the rocky stream bottoms found here in the Colorado mountains.
Thanks Scott! Yes, definitely a useful color. I probably won't add to my palette since I have several ways to easily mix something similar but it was fun to experiment with.

Love your style , thanks for showing us the different personalities. Now about reflections , how would you go about painting seaweeds under moving water ? Thanks 🙏
I've painted seaweed under the water in Santa Cruz. The seaweed around here looks purplish when submerged. Almost like a shadow the water. Maybe I'll talk about it more in an upcoming video
@@chamberlainpaintings cannot wait to sea it ! We have a lake up here , almost all yellow green because of the many seaweeds. Beautiful but have no idea where to start. Thank you for replying . 🙏
Michael can i just ask why it looks so pleasing to see the under sketch(burnt sienna i think) show through especially around the sky? I can only think orange and blue are complementary colours. For me it is why i love your seascapes.
Yes, having little bits of the compliment popping through makes the dominant color more vibrant. With the seascapes I think it's the warm/cool relationship between the blue green and the orange that creates vibrancy and vitality. In the past I've accidentally painted over the burnt sienna tone/sketch and I've had to add back some orange to revitalize it.

Thanks Paul! I may do some urban paintings in the near future. The truth is, I haven't wanted to spend time in urban areas lately. I love painting in peaceful locations!
As always - thank you taking us into your world of creativity. Do you consider formal compositional ideas like the golden section when deciding on whether to include a focal point? Best part of Monday morning down here in NZ.
Thanks Lesley! The only compositional idea I use is rule of thirds. I generally compose using instinct and then experiment with rule of thirds I'm struggling.
