I like how they show each villain as a different sort of evil. The Governor was ruthless and didn't care for his people but the cannibals did, but they also did what they had to do in order to protect themselves. Negan cares for his people but punishes them accordingly and keeps them in line with fear. Alpha commands her people out of pure fear and is ruthless and doesn't care much for them in the end
And now we have Negan the alpha, on the surface subjugating himself to Alpha. I love the scene where he takes the knee before her - their dialogue, but especially Samantha Morton's animalistic movements, and the almost sexual attraction she displays so subtly towards him is one of the best scenes I've ever witnessed on film.
Can't wait to see Megan vs Beta. Negan can be a beast, but his real weapon is his intellect. Meanwhile, Beta is just an animal. It's gonna be a great fight. Although, something tells me that Beta isn't gonna be as easy to beat down as Rick was.
I would say evil villain on the road to redemption. You just don't kill people out of fun, especially in such way. On the other hand he probably saved Rick daughter and killed alpha, along with few good and somewhat just deeds. So... there's that.
I think it's not Negan as a character that's the issue, far from it. IMO from what I've read online, people can't get past the "it's a zombie show" to get stuck in to the real meat of TWD which is: how do social groups form and structure themselves in a world where the reset button has been hit. It's essentially the reforming of nation states in a world after the collapse of the existing social order. I find it fascinating: leadership and governmental models, diplomacy between groups, alliances and betrayals, personal relationships which subdivide the groups, how to deal with law and justice. If you're stuck at "I just want zombies" you are missing 95% of the point of the show. In my opinion of course.

Love that Darryl's hard exterior is not so one dimensional now, his love towards Carol and Lydia and his extra dialogue is really fleshing out his character and story arc.
I also love the fact that Negan pre-outbreak worked with children. He is NOT a monster! Even as the tyrannical leader of the Saviours he was, in his mind, committing lesser evils for the greater good: bringing people together (resources), structuring society, providing law, order and employment. Ruling by fear, but also by consent: people need leaders, he has stepped up to take hard decisions in order to save people. Not entirely evil, not entirely good, nuanced, subtle, fascinating character.
I'm not saying this just to be nice but honestly I've watched this a good 40 times in total, it's just so good, definitely the most rewatchable tribute video I've ever seen, and my favourite, a huge well done with this one Kekker really you deserve it : )

Hell yeah!! I love Negan's story arc and character development. I love the fact that Negan and Rick are essentially mirrors of one another. I like to imagine an alternative telling of TWD from the perspective of the Saviours, where Rick's group/s are the enemy! I can't wait to see Negan kick some Whisperer ass this season. The moment he took a knee before Alpha was superb! The way she animalistically looked at and sort of sniffed at Negan, very wolf/dog like. Also the clear magnetism she feels towards him, almost kissing him when he was kneeling. Brilliant video. I might have to watch the whole box set again now. Damn.

God, Negan is a legend, he is not the bad guy, neither the good one, he’s the reason all those people were alive, he kept them alive, he could have killed them all in the beginning, it he didn’t, because he knew he wasn’t a phsycopath, he just wanted order. Negan‘s actions at least are reasonable and he makes sense as a villian, strategist, leader and person. Even though he also lost his mind when the world went to shit just like Phillip (and Rick and everyone else basically) did, he still was able to keep some sort of moral code when it came to killing people and protecting his own. The Governor just wanted to protect himself, always just wanted what is best for him, not the people he „was protecting“. I think that just made him a very one dimensional character without any common sense.
