I like him, does it his way, is very passionate about creating something worthwhile. Amazing pianist and a stickler for perfection. To the point where it sounds although he struggles.

No….I think _we_ struggle, to understand his thought process. I also think the hyper manner of the interviewer, trying to put words in Zimmerman’s mouth, is only exacerbating the situation.

Did he ever try to compose anything himself? I doubt that it would be succesful, but Zimerman should probably come up with some achievement in this field, since it's very important to understand the nature of his performance, whether he plays Chopin or Rachmaninoff. Composition of a new written work without even performing it could tell a better story than any other things in musical atmosphere.

I'm Danish and have a special love for piano concertos. I thought I'd venture into finding some Danish composers as well as some Swedish ones who wrote for the piano. I'm ashamed to say I was completely green to knowing these even though I'm Danish (albeit live in Australia). Nevertheless, I found incredible works by the likes of Victor Bendix, Emil Hartmann, Otto Malling, Ludvig Schytte among others from Denmark. And from Sweden I found Wilhelm Stenhammar and Adolf Wiklund who are just incredible. Equally as good as most of the big name piano concerto writers. I was blown away by not knowing this. Do yourself a favour and look them up on RUclips. Amazing composers.

He should start composing. the best venue for truly new sounds. Wouldn't be a terrible waste not to do? What represents the 21st century that started with Y2K and 911? What is the aspiration of the 21st century that is saddled with CO2 that slowly bakes the earth?

@chopin7tristesse Indeed, that would be great. But I believe this man is too modest to do that.

If the criticism depends on the play of other pianists it isn't neutral and is worth nothing. That would be no criticism but allegation. It is no justification to say "the other one plays better cause you play different". Or: "You play worse cause all the others play different". There is the reason missing. Such a sentence cannot be a basis for a discussion. Criticism must be neutral by its definition. Bad criticism can only result out of neutral criticism. Perhaps some people should learn more.
