Whatever is going on in Japan to produce musicians of this calibre, I hope they keep on doing it. I found the Japanese rock music rabbit hole about 3 years ago with Lovebites, and I have yet to see the bottom. Awesome stuff people, thank you for showing me this.
Thank you for featuring Hagane (pronounced HA-ga-neh). They have to be considered one of the hot, up and coming groups, though they had to go through a major reboot in 2023. They were originally a five-piece with dual leads; they have recently re-formed as a four piece (more on that below). The initial lineup came together in 2018, just as they were all finishing high school. Founding guitarist Sakura had been posting metal covers on youtube since she was 14, and gained notoriety as a technical beast with a taste for ferocious shredding. That is how most of the other band-members found her. Original lineup: Vocal: Chiemi Guitar : Sakura Yoshida (also writes and arranges most of the music) Guitar : Mayto Bass : Sayaka Drum : Kanako Takahashi (b. 2001) In 2019, Chiemi left and was replaced by Uyu. The band released three concert DVDs and a full-length album (“Code 9021”) during her tenure. From that lineup: “Soul Beats”: ruclips.net/video/k8NTRJ_yTxY/видео.html The rhythm line seamlessly melds rock and funk throughout. The guitar solo is classic jazz fusion, but with distortion. The heavy use of minor and diminished scales gives it a vaguely middle-eastern vibe, but jacked up to searing intensity. “Super Villan” ruclips.net/video/MCqzm0nUxbM/видео.html Huge guitar duel, with give and take and a lot of experimental ideas. “Black Cult” ruclips.net/video/LCheI6-MWhY/видео.html From their most recently released album, another with lots of musical ideas, more guitar dueling, and powerful vocals from Uyu. In early 2023, the band announced the departures of three members-Uyu, Mayto and Kanako. They spent the next year rebuilding. They have re-formed as a four-piece, with the already famous Junna on drums. Junna was previously one of the original members of Kakumei (later rebranded as Trident), and has a popular youtube channel where she posts hyperactive solo drum covers of metal songs. New vocalist Nagi has replaced Uyu. This is her first professional gig. Hagane 3.0: Guitars: Sakura Bass: Sayaka Drums: Junna Vocals: Nagi Hagane are clearly playing in a similar space as groups like Mary’s Blood, Bridear, Nemophila and Lovebites-melodic, hard, heavy and technical. Early on, however, they developed their own signature sound, built around exotic scales, syncopated rhythms and the aforementioned high-octane shredding. Their songwriting is mature, far beyond what you should be able to expect from a bunch of people this young. The new lineup have released an EP, “Life Goes On”, with five tracks including an instrumental. Despite not having the dual attack, it looks like they haven’t lost a step-Junna is insane as ever on drums, and Sakura is just on fire. Here are two tracks: “Tengagoken” (official video): ruclips.net/video/GhMamN_DBO4/видео.html and “Hero Time”, (official live): ruclips.net/video/-uIGtQNesx0/видео.html Other bandmembers: Uyu formed her own band, which largely focuses on covers of other metal groups, especially Babymetal. She and Mayto also co-founded a band called Mana Diagram, with three other members. They have all worked on other projects. Kanako is also an elite musician and has been in a couple of bands since leaving Hagane.
Hagane are underrated and deserve more recognition. The guitarist Sakura is absolutely phenomenal. She writes most of the songs. They had 3 members leave the band last year (singer, drummer, and second guitarist). Things looked dire but they reformed and released a new incredible EP with this new line up. Drummer Junna is an absolute beast and new singer Nagi is really impressive. I recommend their new song Hero Time. From their old songs I recommend Supervillain for some lengthy soloing or Black Cult.
Glad you got to this band. There are so many Japanese rock/metal band you have yet to discover, but I would digress if I went into all the great ones out there. This band you could say has been rebooted, having three members leaving (vocals, guitar and drums) Of the Members who left - Uyu (Vocals) and Mayto (Guitar) went on to form Mana Diagram. KanKo (Drummer) went on to be the drummer for Yeti Valhalla,. But the whole band left him. She has been a support drummer for PaleNeO and other projects. New Members - Junna (Drummer) One of the best drummers I've seen in Japan, or anywhere. She was in the band later called Trident after she left and also her solo work. Nagi (Vocals) is pretty new on the scene but has a great voice. Guitarist Sakura is the creator of the band. The new music has lead and rhythm guitars in most of their new stuff here too. Bassist is Sayaka, who has her own RUclips channel Recommend next - Hero Time (LIVE Music Video)
this is a pretty new lineup for HAGANE - they have been around a while but now the only members from the old band are the guitarist and bass player. the drummer is junna - a new member and she is an absolute powerhouse along with vocalist nagi - another new addition. 'hero time' is the only live mv that they have that i can find. there are some tricks with the camera going on but i is live - and is excellent : ruclips.net/video/-uIGtQNesx0/видео.html
Here's a live video of the song SiN-罪 recorded on October 16, 2021. It feature the previous line up of Sakura and Mayto on guitars, Sayaka on bass, Kanako on drums and Uyu on vocals. ruclips.net/video/_eo5T5MKXbo/видео.htmlsi=pIo-TZoWxNkg9V8E

Their new album with the new lineup is fire. I listen to it almost daily and can't wait for them to tour Europe so I can see them live.
JUNNA is fire 🔥🔥🔥 Her intensive drumming isn't just for show, she broke bass drum recently during rehearsal, hammer went through it xD
Hero Time live is also awesome the drummer is the famous youtube drummer Junna who has been drumming on youtube since she was like 13

Hero Time Live - ruclips.net/video/-uIGtQNesx0/видео.html
Not really live.. studio mixed over live image. Well, it seems so to me...
You know any band with Junna on drums gets kicked up a few notches!
👍👍 try mari hamada / stay gold (full version )🎸
I'll check it out!
Hagane - Hero Time live
Yup need to react to Hero Time!
Look forward to them released a genuine live performance of this, not studio sound with some live imagery.
