Some may snivel about origionality but in my opinion it's far more important to get the old girl up and running then be delayed trying to access original parts. Excellent work! 👍
Yes when we got it, we thought that there was no way we could afford to take her back to original but apart from a few engine mounting holes we drilled we are not cutting her up anymore than when we saved her, if somebody want to spend the money to rebuild her back to original in the future they can. More important that we saved her from rotting away ;-)
Good pick for a swap, US Army used the VT903 foray many decades and way past the highway life and up to 600HP, cummins did some pretty special versions for military applications
I like all things Tanks and follow Mr,Hewes ,and the mates in Australia Auz Armor ,now I will follow you also on this Grant Build well done so far so Crack on
We fitted a few Cummins V8's in Sherman tanks in the past, this M3 Grant was a tight fit lol. Thanks for the subscription, check out some of our other videos.
yeah cant see the semi auto liking the torque from the 903,i used to work on a fleet of leyland buses with the exact same gearbox and 6-71 detroit diesels, they had put low compression turbo pistons in non turbo motors and when i upgraded them they blew the semi autos to bits
We will give it a try, we have done it with full autos into Sherman tanks before and it worked well, never tried the pre-select before. if it don't work we have a clutch pack and bell housing to bolt on that engine and we will go full manual if need be, Cheers for the heads up on it though.
just watched a video by jeffery ornsteins you tube channel on the daimler roadliner which had the V6-200 cummins engine(cut down 903),with the semi auto, they had to de-rate them from 190hp to 150hp to stop them destroying the gearboxes
The engine and gearbox came out of a 15 ton crash fire tender truck, our Grant weight is about 13 ton at a the mo, only way to find out is put a prop on it and see what happens lol
@@514thmick yeah fire trucks dont do alot of KM's and hve extreme maintence, the air force in western australia put a 903 into a hino bus with the semi auto and it broke it a few times, there was a hino with a 6v-71 and wilson semi auto in our fleet and it did ok but it only had n60 injectors in it
Excellent bit of work lads! I must come up your yard one day!
Please do mate, away welcome, I will save you a donut ;-)

Congratulations, you have brought back a pile of rust to life, and made it more reliable, and easier to get parts for. Can’t wait to see more.
Thanks 👍

Yes I think the M2 Bradley has a VT903 in it
You guys do good bloody work ... would rather see these things running again than sittong rotting or worse scrapped ...that pint was well deserved
Cheers
This is fantastic to watch u guys bring an old girl back... can't wait to see the next video
Awesome work and I Iove how you guys network and help each other out. Thats how its done. Looking forward to seeing her moving under her own steam ❤

that's a big step , and it sounds good as well
Thanks, she runs and sounds good
Outstanding!
could you flip the exhaust manifold around so the port faces the rear ?
We was looking at turning the manifolds around but that would send the exhaust into the rad, so we will work with what we have
Amazing what a bit of elbow grease and a lick of paint can do. Love the sound of that engine. Will there be much issue to route the exhausts?
Cheers, flex exhaust pipe ordered, we will find out when it turns up
@@514thmick ah okay, was guessing those weren't matched heads so you could swap them

What kind of tracks are those? They look like modified panzer 3 or 4 tracks. Very interesting. They look great.
We fitted CDP track as its cheap and we got lots around the yard, if you look back a few videos ago, your see us fit them and why we fit them.
Will you have to run one or the other transmission in reverse in order to get normal forward gears?
No, the original transmission is set to run the other direction, so should be able to just connect them up and go.
Is that engine big enough, it looks a monster lol subscribed

11:51, A magnetic drill is a great piece of equipment to have. The M3 is really shaping up. It will be driving around very soon.
