- Опубликовано: 26 сен 2024
- There are many ground sloths in Kaimere, though the most abundant and diverse belong to the mylodontids. Of these mylodonts, many dig burrows, in some species over a hundred meters into highland soil. Learn about their diversity and the impact of these dens not only on the sloths themselves, but the ecosystem as a whole.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

Sloths are why I fell in love with this setting. Seeing those behemoths continueing their march through history is so awesome.

We have found our dungeon makers for a Kaimere DND!:)
Lot of great sequences could be created in their dens!
So... I had my volume turned up when the video started and the roar scared the ever living crap out of me. A+
Haha RIP
Finally the highly anticipated episode is here. Sloths are my favorite mammal in Kaimere, Great to see them doing so well in Kaimere.Damn the Lion sloth looks terrifying😅. Can they take down dinosaurs too??
They can certainly kill dinosaurs around their own size or smaller. For Kaimere’s biggest sloths, this means being able to throw hands with parkosaurs and megaraptorans.
I see the Houze bear sloth has finally gotten its own illustration.
Yup! Was long overdue
As a paleoburrow researcher, this is great!
Love to hear it! Such a fascinating phenomenon
The Hog sloth is like the herbivore version of Badgers.

Now we just need a video covering the various swimming sloths, and a short video about the Kentarim monkey sloth.
The hukolgor reminds me of a goss harag tbh.

Random Hukolgur: "What are you doing in my cave!"
Behold the power of the sloths, great episode mate.
Thanks!!
Without a doubt, sloths are perhaps some of the most successful mammals in all of Kaimere.
They sure are thriving!
@@TalesofKaimere I consider what makes them thriving well is the advantages they have that helps them do well against theropod predators in which most other mammals (herbivores and carnivores alike) are struggling against.
1) I'm very please that we more and more get more frequently (extensions) episodes of sub-series of Kaimere.
This one about the "Sloths of Kaimere" series, on this specific lineage is top perfect !
Hope to see the others lineages and species outside the Known World receiving their own dedicated episodes in order thatt his sub-series is complete one day :)
2) Aside, I'm happy that (most) Burrowing Sloths are established as the "Throlls" of this setting.
(well, we already had and still have the Lesser and Greater Throlls from the "Giants of Kaimere" episode, and they are fines as such, but these look more like lizardmens than what people would think about a typical throll from popular culture. While these throlls that the burrowing sloths are work better for that role).
3) Not only the tunnels/burrows the sloths made provide the beneficial things you mention at the end, but they also for sure must offer safety and resting places for TONS of non-sloths animals, mostly small to medium ones.
And many animals (already such birds, bats and anurognathid pterosaurs) using them to rest at night, escape forests fires, predators, or reproduce.
4) It must be a very recent discovery that the Pakardiant Hukolgur/Rokelkan is an apart species from the mainland common species, since the November Sloths episode.
While the Free-States/Qadan's population seen in the distribution of the Hukolgur in this same episode represent now the extinct yet potentially still existed local dwaf species mentionned in this current episode.
5) Given it is said that there less dwarf ground sloths species within the Khalim Islands than species of elephants, and that we known having around 20 elephants species (12 Palaeoloxodon, 2 mammoths and 6 unknowns), what are the approximative accepted number of dwarf sloths in the Khalim Island (including the Taruk) ?
I hope someone sponsors an episode about the amphibians of Kiamere
LET'S GOOOO
Huzzah!
0:00 im guessing she was just some poor scout sent in to check out the real-estate.
Being tasked with going into a sloth den to make sure it's abandoned is probably not how you wish to spend your day.
Either you walk back out fine, or your friends are met by echoing screams of terror.
She can probably outrun it.
Probably.
love that you made over a dozen species of sloths that all have a unique feature, from being as small as a boar to as big as a mammoth, but do they need to worry about big cats entering their tunnels while they are asleep? ( big cats such as Smilodon hunted giant ground sloths on earth)
I guess the smallest species may fall preys to these predators time to time, but not in a regular manner, as they still robust and thick skinned animals with claws to not mess with, and big cats don't go directly inside their tunnels while they are poorly adapted to hunt in such conditions while also poorly adapted to face such creatures if an ambush fail.
Thylacoleo and the different noasaurs species (to which belong the Rahrak of Pakardia) in the others hand, are more frequent and even specialized hunter of burrowing sloth, as both have adapted jaws to crush and cut throught the skin of sloths, and so able to takedown with more or less ease.
And the Noasaurs have scutes and osteoderms making them good to deal with the claws of their targets.
Yes, big cats and Thylacoleo can be a serious threat to sloths in their den, though venturing into a sloth den when the resident has excavator claws and long tusks can be quite a risk.
Many plants and their associated animals need disturbed sites in order to grow and I imagine the burrows whether abandoned or occupied could be invaluable in the event of a drought or even a wildfire, imagine a Zentaur squeezing its way into a hukolgur den in order to avoid burning to death.
There are also many smaller species that would probably utilize the dens since the large sloths would have no reason to care about them, aardvark and tortoise dens often have small animals burrow into the sides to sleep in since they are safer from medium sized predators. Also many insects, bats, and other species that are often found in caves would massively benefit from there essentially being more caves and in areas where there would normally be few caves. Some bugs in particular can be endemic to very narrow habitats, cellar spiders primarily are found in human houses and are actually pretty rare outside of them and I can imagine a few insects would love to shelter in these places and feed on the materials brought in by the sloths. A whole ecosystem could be supported in a large sloth den.
Another interesting idea would be populations of cliff swallows or other similar birds that make their homes in the sloth dens, hukolgur are so large that a bird nest dug into the ceiling would be pretty safe. A lot of species would probably utilize sloth dens and some may even become sloth den specialists if human houses being full of insects specialized for them is any indication, the cockroaches that infest houses now basically dont exist outside of human dwellings now and many things like bedbugs are in a similar boat.
I LOVE GIANT BURROWING SLOTHS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

@@TalesofKaimere your welcome
I found this out today. There’s an extinct species of ground sloth that were semi aquatic. Thalassocnus. I found this interesting. Everyone else, just do with this information as you will, I guess.
They have descendants in Kaimere! Someday I will make an episode focused on them but they do get a bit of coverage in the other two sloth episodes

"They have a Cave Sloth".
There are two names from your first sloth video that I haven't seen updated or readapted in later videos. The Tarem and Emane? They still there?
Anyways, super cool sloths, Keenan, Impressive as usual. Cheers!
Tarem is the Amenetran word for the common marmot sloth, while emane is their word for hog sloth.

This is the best channel, ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
The same sloths that raid towns for food also create burrows and patches of soil that allow said towns to exist. Gotta love that irony.
The Titan Gardens, along with the Seridic Wetlands, are the habitats I definitely hope to see an episode dedicated to one day, just to appreciate the diversity of them.
I'm so stoked for the Mesozoic Dynasties coming up!
Just playing the long game to get some ale!
I do hope to make more biome focused episodes. Those top the list for what I plan to make when the channel is more able to sustain me on just ads.

Where cicadas harvested and if so, are they as prolific as they are on earth?
Yes and they are relatively successful I'm planing on making and episode on them
Most likely
We pretty much have each sloth family from Earth in Kaimere.
Yup! Though megatheres only have one endangered rep

How does sloth knuckle walking differ from primate knuckle walking? 🤔
For sloths it's on the side of the hand and proximal phalanges, while apes put weight on the end of their first phalanges of each finger.
Sounds like something a top heavy theropod could take notes from. Nice.
@@praetorianrex5571 Walking on the inner sides of their hands would certainly be more plausible than on their palms or ape-style knuckles.

How many more sloth videos could you make?
I could easily do a dozen more I can't get enough of these guys. I definitely want to make one on the marine sloths at least, but the simiomorphs are also deserving and I could definitely talk more about their paleontology, environmental impact, and impact of the burrows themselves just off the top of my head

Theslcelosaurs to sloths:Geez mylodonts, how come keenan let you have 3 video at varying timeframes. Also question how tall are the hinterland giants. I've been rereading your novels lately because they're great and I'm wondering how do you make time to develop the cultures of your group as I only barely delve into one culture maimly because procrastination and perferring to draw animals.
I have the benefit of time. Started working on this and did a lot of the developments of the cultures in undergrad (I was an anthropology major along with biology and a history minor and pretty much every anthropology and history course was taken with helping to develop Kaimere in mind)
Very... badgery

The Arvelith black sloth are a rework of Reaper Sloth? Or just both are black and make a house on same place?
The latter. They are very different animals, just look similar at first glance.
You know how bonobos and chimps split due to difference in behavior? What other behavioral changes could lead to new species or speciation?
To my understanding the difference in behavior likely came after their isolation, not before, but I suppose we may never know for sure.
How big is the Continent of Arvel?
The size of south america
@@sarahevans1936 Neat, my Kaiju Project has a region of similar size. Now i know that so many large creatures fit on one Continent well
When some mammals try to communicate with dinosaurs how much actual information is being conveyed? Namely due to most mammals not being able to see red or ultraviolet.
Will the Mesozoic Dynasties include a revise on the Tyrant Dynasty?
No
The Tyrants Dynasty isn't included within the Mesozoic Dynasties because it run for its great majority of it over most of the Cenozoic.
In order to be a Mesozoic Dynasty, it must at least had a decent portion of its period taking place in parallel of the Mesozoic era on Earth.
However, the Tyrants Dynasty only start near the end of the (Late) Cretaceous, and while that count as an overlap, it's just too short and not enough important to truly count.
It start with a last Mesozoic Harvest in Asia taking Late Cretaceous Asian dinosaurs and others animals, saved right before the asteroid impact, then run for most of the Cenozoic. From 66-65 mya, before ending with the Tyrants Dynasty Extinction around 15-14 mya.

Are there any tame sloths in Kaimere? Or are most too darn mean?
Most are too darn mean. I'm debating one for Qajar but time will tell. As they have an extremely slow rate of reproduction, sloths would be quite poor candidates for domestication.

Ground sloths make for excellent trolls. Gotta wonder, do any live under bridges?
Being under bridges is very popular for hog, river, and bear sloths. Shelter by a source of water and traffic means predators often steer clear

Third prediction out of the list!
When you said that the Titan dung is acidic, does that mean that sauropod dung in general is acidic? If so, is there a study that confirms this? And Conifer trees, horsetails, and ferns do prefer acidic soil?
I ask for a video I am planning on posting in November
There is no study on sauropod dung. That was entirely made up by me. Some conifers and ferns prefer acidic soil. It's not a universal condition, but those conifers and indeed deciduous trees that favor acidic soul like beech, dogwood, and paper birch are quite common in titan gardens.
