- Tavolara is a beautiful small island off the North East coast of Sardinia.
In this Sardinia Boat Trip vlog, we make our way from, Olbia and take an early bus to the small Sardinian fishing village of San Paolo where we take a boat trip to this beatiful island.
Did you know that Tavolara is also the smallest Kingdom in the world.

Tavolara is a small island off the northeast coast of Sardinia, Italy. The island is a limestone massif 5 kilometres (3 miles) long and 1 kilometre (0.6 miles) wide, with steep cliffs except at its ends. Its highest point, Monte Cannone, is 565 metres (1,854 feet) above sea level. A cove and beach can be found at each end of the island, Spalmatore di Fuori at the northeast, and Spalmatore di Terra at the southwest. Currently, the island is inhabited by only a handful of families, and has a small cemetery and summer restaurant. The water around the island is a popular spot for scuba diving.
Most of the population of the island was displaced in 1962 when a NATO radiogoniometric station was constructed on the eastern half of the island. The aerials from the station can be seen from quite a distance, and that entire half of the island is restricted to military personnel.
Tavolara is also home of the VLF-transmitter ICV, which works on 20.27 kHz and 20.76 kHz and which is used for transmitting messages to submarines. It can also be received (but not decoded) by PCs with a coil antenna at the soundcard entrance and FFT-analysis software.
A natural column of rock on the island's coast resembles a human figure and is known as "the Stone Sentry" or "Pope's Rock."[1] Other stone formations include "Ulysses' Bow" (a natural arch) and the "Grotta del Papa" (a cave accessible by sea and boasting Neolithic cave paintings).

Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. Absolutely beautiful. Loved this, love you and obviously you still hold the main accolade of our favourite RUclipsrs. Dont see that going anywhere, anytime soon! Public transport though? Your really not selling it. For twenty years now we’ve done car hire across the Americas and Europe. Whilst you can’t indulge in a cheeky early beverage you can just relax into knowing where you go to get back to where you want to be in a timely fashion! We love the idea of cruising public transport and partaking in alcohol from dawn till dusk but boy oh boy, after PP2 ar£e police and long waits, thats not for us. Id sooner stay sober till touch down on that lovely roof terrace you have. €30 a day combats any of the nonsense we have seen you jumping through! Probably thanks to you, we indulged in a day of public transport exploring yesterday. Drove like maniacs for an hour to get our bus link, almost died several times. Got there late by five super stressful minutes but not nearly as late as the unapologetic bus that arrived a contented 45 minutes later. A super sunburned us went on to start our hike, ranting all the way about how pants public transport is. Apparently Sardinia and Yorkshire are even, stevens on this regard! Superb video and instalment though and great Dad joke Wills ♥️ 🍻
Thanks guys, sorry you had a bad transport experience! To be fair, bar trains, we don’t use it in this country! Too expensive!! To be honest, we enjoy the journey and if something goes wrong then it’s all part of the experience! We car hire sometimes, but neither of us likes driving that much, we’re more ‘look out the window’ kind of people!! We still had a brilliant day Sardinian public transport aside! Even the Sardinians acknowledge how crap it is!! Such a shame as it’s a beautiful place (and I believe car hire is extortionate!!). Cheers guys and have a brilliant week 🍻

Oh, my friends! I know very well that transport is not the strong point of my country, especially when you are not in the city. But let's say you weren't lucky at all. Usually things are better ...
There was absolutely no organization in this place and despite the large influx of tourists, Sardinia is a bit flawed in this. But he gets forgiven thanks to the WONDER of his land and his sea, isn't it?

Shame about the local transport being rubbish, but glad all turned out well in the end. I loved the quaint cemetery with the pebble designs. What a beautiful island, with some fabulous beaches and lovely views. Ooh, that dip in the sea looked wonderful. Oh no, just watching towards the end of the video - and the bus experience has just got much worse! I'll remember to arrange alternative transport if I'm lucky enough to visit Sardinia in the future. That was not an easy day with the public transport but as you found those days can still be a lot of fun. The island was well worth a visit and its story was so interesting. Don`t be too hard on Wills for laughing at your attempts to get the names out, by that time we were all laughing! Bit rude I know. That wonderful sea looked really inviting. Great watch once more. Sorry Wills missed out on the Canaries.

Oh..yes...always some mishaps on our adventure, too. The Shelton hotel at Seattle, WA, US overbooked tourists and we were sent to another hotel...and it was full and another...no available...and finally...got one. We had to drive around in the rain...

Did you get an ASBO? You trouble makers. Great weather and great boat trip. The island looked good for an explore and the eating situation would have done me, because eating is a chore on trips. Also it was washed down with a beer so can't grumble. Transportation sounded a bit of a nightmare. Enjoyed watching and the narration 👍Paul

Beautiful island with some interesting history, before Italy was unified it had lots of different small kingdoms, some smaller than others it seemed! Ah yes, Italian buses, this summer it was particularly bad as the covid numbers went up. I discovered that if a driver was off sick, often they weren't replaced, so his/her bus didn't go out. Discovered this the hard way one morning at the local bus stop when 2 other people waiting were grumbling about the lack of a bus. So if buses are due every 20minutes, but one doesn't have a driver then its cancelled and you're waiting 40min. (Even worse if the bus is once and hour, you're waiting 2 hours!!) I was impressed that Italians did stick to the rule of wearing a P2 mask on public transport, lots of passive aggressive commentary if someone on the bus wasn't wearing it properly! (As in the mask covered their mouth but not their nose.)
Thanks so much for watching. We’ve taken the buses every time we’ve been there and they’ve always been a bit hit and miss, but those Arst buses this year were another level!! To be fair the Italians didn’t bat an eyelid at mask wearing and everyone was very compliant- it was the tourists that had to be reminded! We’ve taken the train in Sardinia too - they’re even worse! But when you end up at a stunning location like that, who cares!! We’re glad you enjoyed it and have a great week - cheers 🍻
Waiting for a bus. Don't get me started on travelling by bus. I prefer trains. Mind you Sardinia does look fun. Found that cemetery rather interesting.
