  • In this 3rd video in a series of 4 about airfoils for SAE Aero Design and Design/Build/Fly, now that we have imported airfoil curves into SolidWorks from airfoiltools.com, we delve into physical interpretations of the performance parameters of airfoils. With this knowledge, you can choose the best airfoils and angles of incidence for the wings and stabilizers of your airplane.

    In the 1st video, we were introduced to how airfoils are used on a full assembly of an airplane.
    In the 2nd video, we learned how to import airfoils into SolidWorks.
    In the 4th video, we will learn to physically interpret the coefficient of moment Cm.

    Hi, I have a question, when you calculate drag, do you use planform area (as for lift) or frontal area?

    Can you please upload a video on how to understand all the other graphs for different airfoils in detail.

      Hi looks like I responded at one point, but then when I switched to a brand account that removes previous comments. You can let me know which graphs you were wanting me to cover and I'll add it to a to do list. There's another video on the coefficient of moment eh, if that's one you're looking for - part 4 in the series on airfoils.
