Thanks, Ben, I just purchased this yesterday, £50 in July 21. Benefits for me are the down, packable, and Minus 5 comfortability rating. Good to see I am not the only Londoner with a passion for the outdoors. Going off-grid for a week, next week, I'll have a look at a few of your other vids. Keep up the good work.
Hi India. Thanks so much for watching and the nice feedback. Really glad the review helped you out too. Also great to find another outdoorsy Londoner!! 👍Ben
I'm glad you showed wearing a fleece underneath, because often, these jackets are pretty warm inside and so if you are wearing just a t-shirt and you start sweating inside, then the jacket gets wet from the inside and loses its warmth, as well as a wet, down coat feels horrible against you. A t-shirt, a fleece/jumper I think should always be warm underneath. I live near a decathlon and they do another down jacket that is -10 and has a breast pocket which is incredible value for the money. Decathlon, for the most part, sell incredible gear for amazing prices.
It’s all about the layers isn’t it. I’ve worn a base layer and fleece under this jacket many times and it’s hardly ever let me down in terms of keeping me warm. Decathlon is great value I agree. Many thanks for watching. Ben
@@benhikescamps yes, get the layers correct and the jacket will do its job. I usually hike in more of a soft shell jacket and use these down jackets to keep warm back at camp. You can put your own drawstring in around the hood/face, just take your FORCLAZ jacket to your tailor. Pre-buy the cord and closure you want, and then have them do the work. Totally worth it IMHO. Takes the jacket from an 8.5 to a 10.
I purchased the MEN’S SYNTHETIC MOUNTAIN TREKKING PADDED JACKET - MT100 HOODED -5°C £25 $30 less expensive and 80g heavier For me synthetic is the only way to go in English wet/cold climate And for long expeditions in sub-zero dry/cold, I also prefer synthetic, as your jacket gets damp from body perspiration, and after a few days down begins to clump and loose loft I am very pleased with the performance of this jacket I obviously would recommend this jacket better than the down

I just rewatched it and noticed that I said, “the greater the fill power, the greater the insulation”. The fill power is a product of the down quality and thus the insulation will be greater if the fill power ‘number’ - measured in cubic inches - is higher.
My go to jacket for dog walking in -8C in a cold windy Canadian winter with a sweat shirt under it. Perfect wear between 5C to -8C. Anything colder you'd need a down parka. Fantastic deal great construction and fairly good water repellency.
Great review - thanks for posting. I've had this same jacket (same colour as you too) for about a year now. Like you, I can't beat it for value for money, however there are little things that I wish I could change. I share your view on the hood. Would be good if that was adjustable. Also, maybe it's just my body shape but I don't like that when zipped fully up with the hood down, I don't think it snugly hugs my neck area enough. It's quite loose, so that means cold air gets in and warm air inside gets out. Other jackets I've tried on re Rab/ Mountain equipment etc all have fitted tighter around my neck to keep the warmth in. I think that makes a big difference personally. I think though this is definitely a jacket worth having for the price it is. I can't exactly complain that it's not a top drawer jacket when it doesn't cost a top drawer price!
I've got that jacket and love it. One thing that influenced me was a review that compared it to a £300 jacket. The only really significant difference was that the expensive one was a few grams lighter.
Let’s not get carried away here! Yes Decathlon gear is value for money, but if you do a little bit more digging there is a heap of difference between these 2 jackets. At 300 notes you have superior material, better finishing and of course a brand name😂 The biggest difference is the quality and type of down used, top dollar jacket 100% goose down with no feather and probably hydrophobic (?) against duck down and feather. I also have both a 250 note jacket and a Decathlon, which I have to say I use most of the time, but when it gets really cold on goes the 250 note job and yes you can definitely tell the difference and if memory serves both are 6-800 fill power. Stay safe, kind regards from Clive in deepest Dorset.👍
Looks great for the money. I managed to pick up an ultra light down jacket in Uniqlo for £25, but it looks thinner than yours and doesn't have a hood or drawstring. That said, it's very warm and great for layering, and packs really small in the stuff sack.
How good a review with 3 years of experience. A couple of days ago, I bought this jacket (€ 49) and the SIMOND ALPINISM also made of decathlon (€ 99) (- 10 degrees). I'm testing them to see which one I fit and I'm not able to appreciate the difference in warmth between the two. The Simond seems more robust.
You myst get the right size. I brought one too big, and it did nit do the job right. So take care they are a small person size as made in the far east. Otherwise well made for the money, just show how much forms like Patagonia make on their jackets guys? Good video.

Thank you for the review, my experience with a similar jacket that I love, had for 2 years, but after this winter and on any windy day, it becomes a real pain to wear, is the OEX Zeno jacket. The lack of technical features for hood adjustment means the hood in this type of jacket just lifts in the wind and then blows cold air around you head and down your back. For none windy days they are great, but now I am thinking of upgrading to the Montane Featherlite, it has a few extra features but the main being a technical hood.
Nice video mate. I never really had any decathlon stuff but see a fair few people who have. Maybe when it’s time to replace my jacket I’ll check them out, seems a good coat for the price 👍🏼
Really interesting review. Given the price, I’m half tempted to buy one just to do a comparison video between this and my Rab Microlight to see what the difference is in quality. The obvious difference to me is the more expensive brands tend to use goose down rather than duck which is supposed to be much better quality and warmer but is that the case? Would definitely be interesting to see! Thanks for sharing 👍
No problem Gunnar. The fleece is from Decathlon too. It’s one of their lighter ones and I only really use it in the summer. I don’t think it’s available anymore though. Thanks for watching. 👍
Funny enough myself and wife went to decathlon yesterday in the Dunstable branch . We got a couple of bits and I thought the prices were incredibly good . They had one style of down jacket and that’s it and I was a bit fed up if honest . But he did say all jackets are online and they can’t stock them all so that was ok as was a helpful fella . Great video and so so helpful and funny thing is I’m xxl and had to try xxxl as sizes small so your info is 100 per cent correct . Cheers now subscribed 👍
Just bought an identical jacket like yours, the first down jacket I had so far. It is incredible warm in it and lightweight. Loving it. I wonder how does it do in terms of resistence in time, the exterior seems a bit thin.
4:20 he mentions the waist cinch. Does anyone know if the Trek 100 still has the waist cinch in Dec 2022? Couldn't find it in specs on Decathlon's site. But yeah also a hood cinch would be great.
Its insane how this jacket has the same filling power and weight as 200 euro jackets from brands like patagonia or arcteryx. Not to mention the sustainability isnt too bad either.
Thank you so much for watching, your feedback and subbing. Most appreciated 🙏 I have around 70-80 videos on the channel. All to do with wild camping and being outdoors. Welcome aboard! 👍 - Ben
Just bought one. It def can not compare to a north face or a rab.. it may be 800 fill but there isn’t a huge amount of it. It’s also not all down, and it’s not box wall construction. +5c to -5c.. that’s optimistic… paired with a hardshell, an additional fleece and base layer. Yes. But as a stand alone. It’s not as warm as you’d think A north face nuptse would be fine on its own. Static 3c active .. much lower
Looks a bargain mate, I was sent a down jacket last week for free from a company, it's £50 on Amazon, but your one looks better quality , can't argue with £40 for a decent down jacket , looks good mate 👍 ATB
That looks and absolute steal and I was so pleased to see that the down was ethically sourced. When my RAB one packs in I'll definitely take a look at one of these. Thanks Ben.
It now costs £49.99. Oh, and if you remove the labels a Large one only weighs 279g...Even at the higher price that still makes it over £200 cheaper than a Crux down hoodie of the same weight!
Nice one Ben. I saw this on Simon outdoors channel the other day and thought I’d look into getting one, now I’ve seen you recommend it too I’ll have to order one sharpish! Cheers for the video bud 👍🏻 ATB George
Decathlon's feathers and down are ethically sourced are they? Ethical consumer magazine states, " It uses animal down and we could find no reference to any policies to prevent live-plucking."
That's great spec for the price. Do you have any issue with down coming out the stitching? I bought a cheap Lee cooper one from sports direct and the stuff pisses out, but it was only £10.
Great video! Can't wait to get to Decathlon and stock up on some budget beginner wild camping gear :) p.s. is this filmed in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park? Great place if so!
Looks almost exactly the same one as I bought on aliexpress last year, it's ideal to carry around in case in gets cold. Down really does warm you up nicely. I use a thicker non packable one when it gets properly cold though.
Thanks Ben very helpful will definitely think about this one. Really informative video and especially helpful as you have used this for 3 years not 3 minutes like some reviews 😂
Hi Andy. So many decent brands out there. I would study the specs and pay as much as you can afford. I use a Jack Wolfskin one and it cost me about £100. Plenty of others though. Hope that helps and let me know what you think of the Forclaz!
Decathlon sells very inexpensive lightweight wind running jackets that you would wear over the parka, and it will greatly increase the warmth by cutting out the windchill factor on the parka And of course, a mid layer fleece, and a vest/gilet, gloves, hat and scarf
Do yourselves a favour and get lightweight synthetic jackets, down jackets and down sleeping bags in UK, or any moist, damp an unpredictable climate when backpacking or bikepacking for more than a day in a tent, is a big risk it will get damp and loose all it's insulating ability, plus it's impossible to dry it then on the go.
It’s a good point and something to be wary of on a multi-day hike/adventure. If just an overnighter, and the kit is looked after, I think down is a good choice. I always store my down gear in a dry bag that then goes inside the rucksack. I’ve worked this way for three years - with the jacket in this video - and never had any issues with it getting wet. If it rains and is also cold, my raincoat goes over the the down jacket but to be honest I’ve hardly ever had to do that.
I got this jacket for my birthday last November and take it wild camping and on dog walks. Loving it so far specially for the money. I have the same issue with the hood, maybe decathlon designers are so clever they have massive heads 😂 new subscriber here. No problem Gunnar. The fleece is from Decathlon too. It’s one of their lighter ones and I only really use it in the summer. I don’t think it’s available anymore though. Thanks for watching. 👍
@@benhikescamps thank you very much. In april we'll visit a big Decathlon shop and I'll looking for. Have a nice day.
I have the synthetic version. £10 cheaper. Love decathlon stuff.
Decathlon are good yes. Thanks for watching.
Really like the look of this jacket. Need a new one.
Thoroughly recommend this Carl.
Really glad the video helped and many thanks for subscribing. 👍
Just bought an identical jacket like yours, the first down jacket I had so far. It is incredible warm in it and lightweight. Loving it. I wonder how does it do in terms of resistence in time, the exterior seems a bit thin.
Sounds like you picked up a good jacket. Many thanks for watching.
straight up, all the info. Thank you
Thanks Laurie 👍
4:20 he mentions the waist cinch. Does anyone know if the Trek 100 still has the waist cinch in Dec 2022? Couldn't find it in specs on Decathlon's site. But yeah also a hood cinch would be great.
Its insane how this jacket has the same filling power and weight as 200 euro jackets from brands like patagonia or arcteryx. Not to mention the sustainability isnt too bad either.
It’s still going strong for me. 👍
I bought today really cheap and amazing a jacket, thank you for your help
Great stuff. Really glad the video helped and you like the new jacket Alex. Enjoy! Ben
Brilliant jacket Ben. I have the same one and love it. Hope you're well 👍
Nice one! Good jacket. All well here thanks.
Great video and review, very informative. I just found your channel and subscribed, looking forward to watching the rest of your videos.👍
Thank you so much for watching, your feedback and subbing. Most appreciated 🙏 I have around 70-80 videos on the channel. All to do with wild camping and being outdoors. Welcome aboard! 👍 - Ben
Bought 1 before Christmas I also had to go up a size but great for the price 💪💪👍🏴
It’s not as warm as you’d think
A north face nuptse would be fine on its own. Static 3c active .. much lower
But it’s 49.99. I guess you get what you pay for.
Looks a bargain mate, I was sent a down jacket last week for free from a company, it's £50 on Amazon, but your one looks better quality , can't argue with £40 for a decent down jacket , looks good mate 👍 ATB
Nice one mate. It's pretty good value for 40 quid.
Yes this is good jacket in lightweight but very warm
Totally agree.
Lol thanks the letter to santa is getting longer😂stay safe and well sending regards xx
go for it ;-)
That looks and absolute steal and I was so pleased to see that the down was ethically sourced. When my RAB one packs in I'll definitely take a look at one of these. Thanks Ben.
Glad to be of assistance Chris!
Great informative review Ben. I'm looking for a down jacket myself but don't have a big budget to spend so will definitely look into this! 👍
Thanks Em. Good luck with jacket hunting.
I have 5 of these in the house. Great coats
5?!?!
Both my son and I have and old one and a new one andMandy has one
Does the jacket have any internal pockets; mesh or otherwise?
Thanks for your review.
Hi David. No internal pockets or mesh. Thanks for watching.
Glad to be of help!
Just been watching some of your videos, nice review! Have you got any experience with their waterproof jackets? What would you recommend?
Hi Sameer. Many thanks for watching the vids. I use a Jack Wolfskin jacket. I think it's best to spend as much as you can afford. I hope that helps.
Decathlon's feathers and down are ethically sourced are they?
Ethical consumer magazine states, " It uses animal down and we could find no reference to any policies to prevent live-plucking."
Many thanks for watching and the feedback. Do you have a link for the magazine article please? Thanks.
This was excellent, thank you.
You're very welcome!
what is the least weather temp you wore it and found good?
I’m sorry, I can’t remember exactly. At least zero, maybe lower.
Looks a nice decent jacket Ben,good info
I love it. Cheers Jenny.
Brilliant. Thankyou
Many thanks for watching Imran.
That's great spec for the price. Do you have any issue with down coming out the stitching? I bought a cheap Lee cooper one from sports direct and the stuff pisses out, but it was only £10.
Hi Steve. Never had any issues with that. Thank for watching mate. Ben
My review of your review - you've had it 3 years & not perished = result 😁👍
Very true! Thanks Kevin.
Great video! Can't wait to get to Decathlon and stock up on some budget beginner wild camping gear :) p.s. is this filmed in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park? Great place if so!
Many thanks for watching. Appreciated!
I bought this 1 size up ( great advice) 🤝
Glad to be of help!
Looks almost exactly the same one as I bought on aliexpress last year, it's ideal to carry around in case in gets cold. Down really does warm you up nicely. I use a thicker non packable one when it gets properly cold though.
Cheers Andy.
Thanks Ben very helpful will definitely think about this one. Really informative video and especially helpful as you have used this for 3 years not 3 minutes like some reviews 😂
Glad it was helpful Richard.
I got one too. My only regret is that i didn't get one size bigger..
How's the fit of your large down jacket? I'm 5'10" and 78kg. Should I buy a Large too?
I think what we your ‘normal’ size is, go a size up. 👍
@@benhikescamps i normally get medium
@@glennchua1585 I’m a medium and went for a large. The large was perfect to have a fleece if required - and comfy.
@@benhikescamps cool. Thanks. Nice video btw. Thanks.
Decathlon really do stock some decent gear.
They really do. Thanks for watching.
Great review. Just purchased! What waterproof jacket would you recommend to use on top?
Hi Andy. So many decent brands out there. I would study the specs and pay as much as you can afford. I use a Jack Wolfskin one and it cost me about £100. Plenty of others though. Hope that helps and let me know what you think of the Forclaz!
Size of jacket ? what's your height ?
HI Aditya. I'm 5'8". The jacket is a large.
Looks a great jacket. Atb. Hardy
For 40 quid it's a steal mate.
Is the down itself treated to resist moisture?
Hi there. I don’t believe it is. You may want to check the Decathlon website though. Thanks for watching.
Real -5° ⛈️⛈️⛈️ ??
Can we use it in snow or extreme winter ?
You could wear it in snow based on the specs. But it would need to be combined with other appropriate layers.
Decathlon sells very inexpensive lightweight wind running jackets that you would wear over the parka, and it will greatly increase the warmth by cutting out the windchill factor on the parka
And of course, a mid layer fleece, and a vest/gilet, gloves, hat and scarf
Hi, what size are you wearing?
That’s a large that I have on. Thanks for watching. 👍
@@benhikescamps your welcome,👊
The price is cheap because is mainly filled with feather. Only 15% is 800 cuin down
Do yourselves a favour and get lightweight synthetic jackets, down jackets and down sleeping bags in UK, or any moist, damp an unpredictable climate when backpacking or bikepacking for more than a day in a tent, is a big risk it will get damp and loose all it's insulating ability, plus it's impossible to dry it then on the go.
What size is that?
It's a large Glenn.
@@benhikescamps oh cool, thanks. Got the same size. Loved it
@@glennchua1585 Awesome Glenn. Great news. 👍
Is that black or navy colour?
Dark blue.
@@benhikescamps thanks!
Defenatly go up a size.
Agreed.
39 pounds? it's 85 cad here in Canada
It’s gone up a lot more in recent years here in the UK.
I got this jacket for my birthday last November and take it wild camping and on dog walks. Loving it so far specially for the money. I have the same issue with the hood, maybe decathlon designers are so clever they have massive heads 😂 new subscriber here. Please feel free to check my channel out if you like, all things wild camping and budget gear!!
bummer they gone up a tenner
I still think a buy though 👍
And this moment when it costs 40 pounds in UK but in Poland it costs 50 pounds 😢
15% feathers - 85% down
Absolutely. ruclips.net/video/o452jeoTiIs/видео.html
@@benhikescamps but the site says: HEATING
Filling 85% Feather/15% down with an expansion power of 800 CUIN.
"Rucksack" is something us yankees do not say lol. Maybe I will start.
Nice review bro - check out my new wildcamp video 🇬🇧💥🙌
This jacket went up to 60 quid unfortunately. Alternatively I found a peter storm alpinist for £40 at go outdoors, look about the same lovely.
Thanks for sharing. 60 still not bad though compared to bigger brand prices.
@@benhikescamps yep still great. The Peter storm doesn't have draw string either. Could definitely be handy!
