Thank you for putting out these quality contents consistently, as someone whos getting into the Leica system I found your videos really really helpful.
Thank you! Happy I could help.
I use the voightlander 21mm f4 on the leica m8, which is behaves like a 28mm from the crop. I use the entire viewfinder for framing. Love it for street, its so discrete. The image quality is really good, the built in focus tab makes the ergonomics great. The price is affordable
Yes great combination! I used the same before 👍🏻
I love the idea of the 40mm heliar on my M3 but not hugely keen to use a seperate viewfinder with it.. any thoughts? :)
Hi, no finder required. The M3 is amazing as you just use the full VF area for 40mm (the same as with the iiig shown in the previous video)
Didn't you bring the Voigtlander 50 mm 1.2 ?
You know what, if you stack all those lenses on top of each other its about the size of one SL PRIME hehehehe
Nice set of glass.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks RS, no I don't own the 1.2 and it's not small so would have failed the cut off for this one. (Still a great lens). The 40mm f1.2 is smaller.
tooo many lenses
That’s why I’m a RUclipsr! / blogger/ reviewer..
Nice to see them all together. Thanks for posting. Did Leitz ever make a 50/3.5 Elmar collapsible that was coated?
Yes later ones were costed, look for a blue tint on the glass if buy on eBay etc
Can these lenses be used on a Leica T ?
Yes, the same as me using them on my Leica CL. Just get a L-M adapter (see the latest video shared)
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Awesome!! I cant wait to purchase one and try! Thank you for your reply and all your wonderful content !!
Hello. Your video is of great help to me. Thank you. I have one question for you. Is there an adapter to use kodak curtagon lenses with leica m cameras? If it works, please advise on which product to buy.
Hi Danny, you might be able to find an adapter on eBay if it will fit Leica. You will need to use EVF or LiveView to focus as I guess the lens is not RF calibrated.
The smallest telephoto I found is the FED 100mm f6.3. Rangefinder blockage is almost zero on my IIIF. Canon 100mm finder works perfectly with it too.
Thanks Ryan, great tip! I'll have to Google that one as I can't say i've see one.
The collapsible lenses need to be fitted with an O ring if attached to a digital camera or it could damage something. There is also the Perar.
Thanks, they are OK on my M but can't collapse on CL so yes band is safe option
Two other lenses which are not that big are the Voigtländer Color Skopar 50/2.5 LTM and the Konica M-Hexanon 90/2.8. Love them to bits
Great, I have the Skopar. The smallest 90 I've owned was the 90mm f4 Macro Leica M lens (see that video)
What! You do not have my favorite lens? The Leitz Elmar 35mm f3.5 is Ultra Low Profile!
Sadly not! I like the size but I already has the Summaron 35mm f3.5 (See the latest video for a new ultra compact 35mm f2!)
The elmar 35mm 3.5 is also miniscule, just a bit taller than the elmar 50 collapsed, but doesn't need to extend! A cool old lens that performs pretty nicely.
Thanks John, yes! I've never owned that one but I know it's really small. Thanks for mentioning.
Hi Matt, what about the M mount Lomography Minitar 1, which is 32/2.8....
It is like a closed collapsible lens, and it is also when shooting WOW
Thanks Maurizio, i've not tried this lens, It sounds like 7A 35/5.6 pancake.
Matt I'm curious why you didn't mention the Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4. Is this an oversight or is it not a small lens by your definition. I've not had the chance to compare the sizes personally but I thought for sure the 40mm f/1.4 was small. What do you think?
Hey Chris, yes the 40 1.4 is a decent size but the others I list are smaller. (From memory)
I think you can get the Pentax-FA 1.9/43 Limited in Leica LTM.
Ah thanks Bernard, good tip
I really wanted a small 50 but after the Summarit was discontinued I just couldn’t bring myself to pay the asking price. I stumbled across the Voigtlander 50/2.5 Skopar LTM and it is TINY! Even smaller than my 35/2 Ultron.
I fell like no-one really knows about this lens as I could hardly even find a review on it before purchasing it, but now that I own one I couldn’t be happier. It never leaves my M Monochrom and the 35 Ultra lives on my M9. None of my other lenses even get a look in because they just feel so cumbersome next to these two.
Thanks James! Yes I did overlook the 50 when I was buying a lot of LTM glass some years back and now they are not overly common. Maybe i'll pick one up if I see one cheap (I use the 3.5 Elmar if stopping down or fast glass for portraits so it's a bit in the middle. My Summarit doesn't get much use but I feel I might want it one day so hang onto it.
Thanks for the wealth of information again Matt 👍 also there's a front pocket joke there somewhere with the 90mm Elmar but I'm watching this too early in the morning 🙈😂
Haha thanks Thomas! :) Hope to see you on Zoom this week (let me know what day?)
Matt maxes out again! Great succinct review. I, too, like that Canon 28mm f/2.8. Very nice lens. Thanks for putting the review together.
Thanks Zoltan! Yes I always seem to reach for the small lenses so I thought I should make a video. (My next video is not gear related but might interest you as a long time follower so look out for that)
Thanks Matt. Very informative. Can the LTM Elmar 50mm f/3,5 (@5:30 in the video) be fully collapsed on an M9 without scratching the sensor? Thanks in advance.
Thanks, from memory yes but do it gently to check (you can't hit the sensor, it will hit the light baffles around the sensor). Some cameras need a band around the lens to be safe so it cant quite collapse. But I think on Ms is OK.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thank you so much for the quick and informative reply! Keep up the good work, enjoy the holidays, and have a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!
great video , i have a Leica iii ,love using the russian screw fit lenses with it for my street photography,.......just perfect
Thanks Michael! Yes sadly there is not much love out there for Leica iii bodies but those than own them know how great they are. I hope to do some videos sharing sample photos from the last 4-5 months when I get a chance.
The post war biogon also does not work on M bodies, the rear element hits the rangefinder cam
Thanks Tyler, great info, yes correct. But the post-war will fit MD-a, ic, if, ig as they have no RF - I have the lens so adapted it via LTM or M adapters. Also works on SL which I overlooked for over 12 months! ..so I need to use it more then I can make a video. I've had great results with my Bessa R2C, Nikon S2 and other bodies.
skopar 35 or heliar 40asph for m8? 😁
I like the 40mm Helier LTM at the moment, 35mm Skopar 2.5 is also small
Food for thought, thanks. A little off piste but I am struggling to find a good quality M39 to M mount adaptor. I've got a Urth 50mm for my Canon LTM f1.8 but it is poorly machined and has very sharp edges (cut finger risk!). Can anyone suggest a better alternative as I'm feeling a little precious about attaching it to my M10! 🙂
I think your best bet would be to just get a little bit of sandpaper and dull those edges so they aren't blades anymore. I haven't heard of any that are free of this issue aside from the expensive Leica or Voigtlander ones.
Hi David, great lens, I had it will me for the trip but realised the Nikkor HC was smaller so swapped it out for the final take. I see John has suggested sandpaper which makes sense.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Good lens for the price Matt, I have the 35mm too. So I decided to give the sand paper a miss and I have purchased a 50/75 & 35/135 Fotodiox Pro adaptors from Amazon. Though they are more expensive than most at £39.95 each the standard of machining and the chrome finishing is a much better quality than the cheaper versions. I even found a work around for removing the adaptor from then lens if its a bit tight...use a Leica mount lens end cap as a 'wrench', saves the fingers!
Very informative video. The only Leica collapsible lens I have is the 90 mm macro. Is there another collapsible Leica lens you would recommend for my M9?
50mm Elmar. Always extend when attaching or removing, also fit an O ring over the barrel.
High Wilfred, modern lenses they did the 90mm and 50mm Elmars. Vintage lenses there are more. See my 50 Summitar video, 50 Elmarit 2.8, 50 Elmar 3.5
Thanks
You need to have a look at the ms optic lenses? They tend to be under 100grams and tiny!
Thanks yes! I always forget to mention them. A Patreon has the 28mm.. it's lovely but not cheap
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I have that too. I use it on the Pixii Camera and its a lovely body cap lens 40mm equivalent lens
Hi Matt, do you know the Fed copy of the Elmar 5cm f3.5? And is it any good?
Hi! Yes I have some. Please watch "sharpest 50mm LTM lenses" video. You'll see them.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Thanks Matt! I did some time ago but do it again 🙌
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom and do you know it fits the Nooky Hesum Elmar version? 🤗🤗
Calling it from the start: Voigtlander 40mm F1.4 wins:)
Thanks Jeremy! If you look carefully I dug it out but then it failed the size cutoff! Still hard to beat for a small fast lens.
is cv skopar 21 f4 good on m8?
Yes 👍🏻
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom will it show the 28mm frameline?
@@goosfraaba6225 no on the M8 the lens triggers the frame it relates to 35=35 frame etc
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom hm my nokton 40, i think triggers the 50. with the crop, wouldnt the 21 trigger something like 28
@@goosfraaba6225 40 triggers the 50
Because of the notch on the lens mount. If LTM 21mm you can mount to 28mm adapter to show 28. Not sure what it will give otherwise. (I’d be guessing)
