You can over ride the pass-com or door pass-com on a 225 but not an HST. The Driver let it activate because he or she was setting off and didn't know if someone was trapped in a door and being dragged along the platform or someone had fallen under the train. You can hear the train dump the air res brake pressure and the brakes come full on. This is a door release leaver, the idiot had missed his stop prob, then smashed the glass and pulled the handle full down. then pulled the door open. prob got a fine for endagering a passenger train.
Actually what he did was pull the emergency release on the door, opening it. That will stop ANY train, including modern ones. He pulled the "green handle" above the door, rather than the red handle.
I experienced something similar in Romania a few years ago. A family had got on to see their relatives off, and were still on board when the train set off. So they pulled the emergency cord, train did emergency stop, our coach was already out of the station, but slam door stock with no central locking, so they just climbed down to track level, closed the door behind them, and walked back up the end of the platform. A cheery wave between train crew and those passengers, and the train set off again. Nobody seemed to think it was any sort of problem - like an everyday occurrence. Different attitudes I guess!😀
Great video showing standard railway practice for an emergency stop, thanks for posting. Also thanks for reminding us of the launch name of the Class 91 `Electra'. I liked the name IC225 as well; shame they are never run up to 225 KPH. Am I correct that there are stretches of the ECML where the signalling is designed for 225 KPH running (flashing green)?
That is true. However, the flashing greens are not/no longer used to signify max running. At those speeds, conventional trackside signalling is too hard to read and so in-cab signalling (like the TVM430 in use on class 395 units) must be used.
@@jobblejosh9713 It would be ERTMS - TVM430 is French and only in use on HS1. The ECML is now getting ERTMS on the southern section, but it remains to be seen whether trains will be allowed to speed up.
That is one smart looking train. I wasn't taking much notice of what was occuring, just looking at the excellent livery. Down here in Essex some of the goods trains are more attractive than the passenger carrying stock!!
Never heard of any follow-up, but don't expect to really. The Northern Echo said he was stopped from getting off the train by some oil rig workers, if I remember right. At least no one got hurt :D I'm still more interested in the train lol
what a stupid idiot stopping then just putting his foot down I think he is 1 dopey bugger stopping for no particular reason that might of been a train driver could ever do. and who agrees with me? that he is a dopey bugger
No, he didn't 'nearly miss his station' he DID miss it. But he decided his needs outweighed those of everyone else on the train, compromised the trains safety, and had there been transport police there he would have rightly been arrested. It is this type of utterly selfish behaviour that we see every day from people who's mantra seems to be "me, me, me, and a bit more me".
You're right! Should informed for British Transport Police cause warns, is charge this train cause breaking delays of the door open off person the train is! 😖🚔
people pull shit like this all the time on the tube in london, like running and shoving a foot in a closing door and opening it for their whole family, or leaning on just-closed doors. usually causes under a minute delay, but that minute filters back to every other train behind on the line as they run every 2 minutes and cant run closer
did they reset the brake system in the train because if they diddn't when they try to stop they would have no brakes because the emergency works by trapping air outside the brake pipe once that air is out the only way to replace it is by reseting the brake system so therefore thy would be endangering the lives of everyone on the train passenger or staff
they would have had to reset the brake system after the emergency stop. otherwise the train wouldn't have been able to move. Should there be a fault in the system a computer will inform the driver or if an air hose (for example) gets disconnected the brakes will automatically apply. Does that answer your question. Each train is inspected before it is allowed to move
How long does it take for the engineer to release the emergency brake system? Uploader didn't get it quite right - the oxygen waste was an 'entitled' arsewipe. What amused me was the way he thought he could just walk away from what he'd done.

I’m not 100% sure what happened but it looks like a passenger may have pulled the egress handle on a door (emergency release) AFTER the train started to depart from the station (2:24) The train did come to a complete stop, and someone exited the train immediately after it came to a stop (which would only be possible if the egress handle was operated)

I disagree with your view on nationalisation. Bring back GNER, they showed how to run the East coast route properly, and set very high standards. Intercity, and East coast are a far cry from what GNER achieved.
DMHDTrains - Too the everywhere No - their US parent company was restructured under Chapter 11, which left a technical loophole open allowing the relevant Minister to pull the plug and give the franchise to his friends at National Express. THEY failed horribly at it, giving up and running away - leaving the East Coast shell until VTEC stepped in. Now it seems VTEC can't make a big enough profit to keep the government happy, so we may be in for another spin of the Russian roulette wheel at our expense... Maybe one day the government will be willing to let good companies run a good service at a modest profit and crack down on fiascos like First Sardine's fleet of tiny class 170s running a hopelessly inadequate service at 200% load factors at a loss ... but probably not any time soon it seems. (Yes, First finally lost the franchise they'd been running into the ground, and Abellio are upgrading to less inadequate sets later this year, with plans to run an almost adequate service most of the time - will they actually deliver?)
I'd have thought most people would tend to get off & seek out the first available staff member, to explain, or get assistance. Takes all kinds, I suppose lol
The guy who got off isn't 'most people', he was a twat who realised he had missed his stop and decided his needs outweighed those of everyone else on the train. He would have been arrested if there had been any British Transport Police present, and rightly so.
I think he got a good talking to, but never heard anything via local media and East Coast even amended the train's running log to show there were no delays, when obviously there was.
