Hi Daci! Yeah- me too. Credit to the fisherman for not smashing the snake's head like many snake-bite victims do.

@@TinyMedicine It's worse than that,I've heard stories of people who kill harmless, helpless snakes just cause said snake is too close to their precious house.
When I worked in wildlife rehab, somebody told me they saw someone swerve off the road, just to run over a snake...Etc.
I just don't understand why people have to be so sadistic.

I was fishing on July 4th at an inlet in NC outer banks. I was at a pier and wasn’t getting a bite so I decided to go over to the bank that had some rocks. I usually check areas where I fish just in case. So I just stomp on the rocks mostly to wake any crabs. I did that and nothing moved so I went on the rocks. After about a few hours I was getting ready to leave the rocks and when I looked down I saw this long bright red snake slithering under my feet between the cracks of rocks. The way it slithered so quickly I felt a cold chill up my spine and best believe I darted leaving my fishing rod 🏃🏾💨

That was most likely a salt marsh snake, not a a sea snake.

Being a biologists, it pains me to hear people say poisonous when they mean venomous. Believe it or not there is a difference in the 2. One is the delivery system on how it gets into your body.
    1. If it bites you and you get sick and die, this is venomous.
    2. If you bite it and you get sick and die, this is poisonous.
I know a lot of people want to argue and fight over this but if they were truly the same then it would be one word. Take care and I wish you the best.

Honestly I think at this point it’s just a minor annoyance. Venom or poison if you get bitten by a snake and you don’t get help it’s a bad day.

      passively vs actively deadly

Venom is still poison. It’s just more specific. It’s annoying but it’s not wrong.

What happens if one didn’t know which snake bite him ? Will the doctor give him Anti venom ?

    • @TinyMedicine
      @TinyMedicine  Год назад +2

No. Doctors will Monitor you until they start seeing signs of envenomation.

One friend at r/snakes clarified this issue: The venom is very toxic! But in most bites, venom is not successfully injected (no envenomation)

  • @stevenscottoddballz

2:35 "all sea snakes are poisonous..." Wrong. None have poison. It should have been "venomous".

True sea snake has flat tail, it's venom is many times more toxic than the most venomous land snakes.
