  • At 3,885 feet of elevation, Tecate Peak is the most prominent mountain along the U.S. - Mexico border, and one of the "100 peaks" of the Sierra Club list for San Diego County. Tecate Peak is also a place of cultural and historic significance to the indigenous Kumeyaay People, who referred to the mountain originally as Kuuchamaa. For those today who are willing to take an off-road drive; and hike over nine miles, the mountain remains a source of wilderness solitude and adventure.

Legit. Kuchaama is easily visible from many spots in San Diego County as a hogback shaped ridge off to the south with a small peak point as the summit. It is definitely a sacred spot that needs to be respected!

Agreed, which is why I noted that in the description and in the video. Given that the road has been there since 1958, hikers can pay proper respect to the beliefs by following the established route (road) and exercising LNT principles.

There is a book on Mt. Tecate aka Kachuma now known as Cuchuma. It is the 3rd most sacred mountain in the world.

I did not know it was the third most sacred, or about the book, thanks!
