    My 5 would include: Sophie's Choice by William Styron, Ragtime by E L Doctorow, The Dead Zone by Stephen King, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Susskind, and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

    I’ve thought about this for a while, awesome list. It’s a special experience reading gems for the first time, you just never know what’s going to resonate with you…

    I read Pillars of the Earth twice back in the early 90s (probably before you were born, Alex -- ha ha!), and I too would like to reread it at some point. I also would like to reread The Road, the only Cormac McCarthy book I've read, but I should probably read some of his other books first. Another ASOIAF reread will likely be in the cards for me too, especially if we actually see Winds of Winter. All the best with these reads!

      Hahaha that's so awesome, Philip! I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on Pillars of the Earth and Cormac McCarthy! Both seem right up your alley! Thank you so much for checking out the video!

    Wow, what a list! If I had to pick a couple I’d want to experience for the first time again I’d say The Dark Tower, book 7, It, and a recent one would be Ship of Destiny!
    Love this video idea, and great choices, Alex!

    I have the ASIF series and I will enjoy every bit given that a lot of people would love to read it for the first time again. I got Blood Meridian and No Country for Old Men a couple of months ago and I look forward to reading McCarthy's books (May he rest in peace). Thanks for another great video!

    Pillars of the Earth is in my tbr this year. Was a little worried if I would like it. But wanted to give it a try as it was my fathers copy. He passed away and I found this copy among his things. Thank you so much. Now I know I would love it

    I can't remember if you read World Without End or Column of Fire, but they definitely gave me the same feels after reading Pillars. Especially World Without End, that was such an awesome follow-up.
    I can't think of many books I would read again as my first time. Probably Pet Semetary would be one. If I could erase all memory, and not even see or hear of the movies, I'd love to go into that story blind and experience it fresh.

      I have read WWE and I loved that book! Still haven't read A Column of Fire or The Evening and the Morning but I really need to get to those! Pet Semetary is an awesome answer as well! Incredible book!

    I've never read Pillars of the Earth, but if you want another two great historical fiction books then read "Masters of Rome" (that's actually the name of the entire series) and "The Terror".

      @@TallGuyReads Nice, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. The atmosphere in the book is amazing, because even though I read it during an extremely warm period in my country, the author's description of the cold and how it affects the crew made me feel the wind and frost in my bones. It was better than any AC 😆.

    I feel similarly with ASOIAF, but for me it's that I wish I hadn't watched the show beforehand, because I think all the crazy twists and reveals would've been so much more shocking!
    And I reallyyyy want to read Pillars of the Earth and The Road, those are true TBR veterans of mine. Loved this video Alex! 🤩

    • @TallGuyReads
      @TallGuyReads  Год назад +1

      I could absolutely see that! Have you read AFFC yet?? I think Books 4 and 5 diverge greatly from the show for all great reasons! YESSSS you have to read both of those! I can't wait for you to read Pilalrs and the Road!

    • @esmayrosalyne
      @esmayrosalyne Год назад

      @@TallGuyReadsYes, I listened to AFFC back in May and am hoping to listen to book 5 this month! And I actually think AFFC was not nearly as bad as people say it is, I liked the slower pacing to get a little breather after all the crazy stuff in book 3, haha 🤣

    Currently making my way through A Clash of Kings for the first time. I'm curious to see how the book of A Storm of Swords differs from the tv show and if it has any other shocking moments, because that season left me in awe. ASOIAF immediately came to mind for this prompt.
    For the books I have read it would be Berserk's Golden Age arc (same effect as ASOIAF), Ship of Magic, Rebecca and And Then There Were None for me.

    I wouldn't mind reading A Song of Ice and Fire again for the first time. I would have to think about what else I would have on my list. The Stand is a good choice too.
    I added Pillars of the Earth to my tbr list. I've heard of it before, and it seems like something I should read.

    Great video! I just reread The Stand after a 20 year gap from when I last read it and it was almost like having my memory erased. The Stephen King book and movies I wish I could erase from my memory would It. It is my favorite Stephen King book and one of my favorite novels of all time. So much from the book, miniseries and movies is ingrained in my brain that it will never have a fresh feel on reread. I wish I could experience the entire ASOIAF as if it were for the first time as well. I've read the series multiple times and have seen the show about four or five times so it is very familiar. Luckily, The Winds of Winter is coming out in 2024 (I can feel it), and I'll get the new car smell one more time.

    • @TallGuyReads

      That's awesome! Yeah IT is probably my favorite or second favorite King book so I totally feel you on that! Going into that again for the first time would be pretty amazing! I'm 100% on the #Winds2024 team and I am hoping we get it as well (fingers crossed)!

    At some point i'm going to re-read stuff...i've only ever re-read maybe 2 books over the last 10 years, only because they were small. But I'm not a super fast reader and my TBR is crazy long and I feel like I can't justify the wasted time reading something i've already read when there is so much i haven't read yet. Maybe I should just say forget it and just do it...at least a re-read you'll know will be something you love instead of something new maybe being something you don't care anything about. Also, at this point, some of the stuff I ready 10-12 years ago I don't fully remember all the specifics anyway so it might as well be new to me. :)

    • @PreppinShootinLivin
      @PreppinShootinLivin Год назад

      Another thing I need to tell myself is that often rereading stuff is even better the second time around than it was originally.

    • @TallGuyReads

      There are absolutely some books that I think are significantly better on reread than on a first read and that's one of the main reasons why I find this type of question so interesting!

    I totally agree with you on the stand. I loved the girl with the Dragon tattoo, question for you, do you have any book recommendations for books similar to the girl with the Dragon tattoo? I have had a hard time finding things that hit me the same way since I finish that series.
