Quetzalcoatl is one of the most important figures in the traditional mythologies of Mesoamerica. The name Quetzalcoatl means "Feathered Serpent." It brings together the magnificent green-plumed quetzal bird, symbolizing the heavens and the wind, and the snake, symbolizing the earth and fertility.
