As someone who is still starting out using soft plastics for flathead I have caught more flathead in one session using the mmd soft prawns than what I have using bait all thanks to you John and your awesome review's
Mate love your Vids great advice, watched you using a splash prawn raced out a grabbed two, down at a local creek with conditions all unfavourable and no idea what I was doing first cast scored a small mullet on the Ghost cant wait for the weather to clear to have a decent crack, cheers again for the great Video,s.
*It's great caught caught a brown trout on the first cast. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend if it was a little smaller it would be more effective for different species*
Hi John, I found the ZMan crawz 2.5 , 3 a great lure for kids as the the little front nippers wave in the current while idle and tough as. Easy cast, good action and a little scent will work just sitting on the bottom. Caught Flatties, bream, grunter, trevs, whiting and small jewies. I found motor oil is great in semi clear water on the run out tide. Can be rigged weedless and work great on flatties around the weed beds.
great choices for kids. splash prawn and sugarpen r both top notch. agree the splash prawn is more forgiving for kids and even for adults. the sugarpen needs a little more tech savvy ability, thats my opinion. cheers.
Great video John! Ecogear zx40’s are a great lure I’ve found they literally catch everything and are so easy to fish. 3 inch holt product prawns are my are time favourite plastic and their just so easy to fish I’ve caught good flattys on them and even a jack.
Word on the street is that the Biscay is coming out in a smaller model for bream. It's a gun lure for bass in heavy structure so it'd be interesting to see how it goes as a smaller model.
Love the channel mate been using the new 2 inch holt prawn lately it is killer catches everything thought the 3 inch prawn was good but the 2 inch is the perfect size
Good to hear Kev, a simple loop knot for the sugarpen and the same for the splash prawn. Because the prawn doesn’t want to walk side to side as much, even tying straight to the tow point is fine
@@mylurebox thanks for the tip, would love to see possibly a small video maybe at some point on how you tie some of your rigs. But thank you very much for the advice.
I know this is a bit unrelated to what this channel is all about but I heard the other day that Snyder Rods are doing their last run of Snyder Glas Mag Surf 13’6 1pce and 2pce surf rods, and also the last of the Snyder Glas Mag Bream 10’6 1pce bream rods. In my day if you bought a kid a Yabby Pump, an Alvey Reel with 6-8lb Line matched to a Whiting or Bream Rod (something like a 4136 Snyder Glas Rod, a Mag Bream and the like) added some hooks, swivels, sinkers in an Alvey tackle box, a knife, scaler, ruler and a shoulder bag, then that young kid was set for life. Well with a bit of maintenance that set up would last him a life time and if you taught that kid where to find bait he'd be able to catch fish for the rest of his life and for very little output. That old saying that 10% of fishermen caught 90% of the fish all came down to bait selection, tide, location, time of day/year, water temp and time spent on the water.
BJs Custom Baits make a 1/4 ounce underspin jig called a Thunda spin...They are hand poured and the bodies are hand tied either from bucktail or Marabou...They have been proven on every fish that swims in both freshwater and saltwater fish species...They can be ordered from bluefinfishingtacklesales on Facebook. They are also available from select tackle stores including Manning River Marine in Taree..N.S.W. Best Regards B.J.
I have no idea why tackle stores don't stock the rio prawn anymore they are so good for flathead, jacks and trevally, they are well made so you can smack them into pylons and they survive, and they sink slow which is perfect for a sunset fish around bridge pylons or rocks . You can troll them down deep with some added weight or cast them. If you haven't used them give them a go you can still get them from the rio website. I used to fish them in the Gold Coast cannels when I lived there always caught fish with them.
Personally, in love with and great success with zerek fish traps, easy to fish and with the 2 hook options of weedless or double treble and good size range. My go to in and offshore
Chris you could give this tackle shop a go for Rio Ricatti's - Rio Prawn Lure www.hookedonanglingoutdoors.com/ , they are featured on his Facebook page facebook.com/www.rioslures.com.au/ so I'd say they might be worth a try. I did ask Rio earlier today about his website because it is down and Rio message me back and I quote - Looks like I’ll have my materials before the end of the week, I’ll start making lures next week so possibly by the end of next week. Good video. Some good options there although some I wouldn't use again. MMD soft prawns don't for me and I threw them out. GT coastal shads I bought 4 packs don't again. I threw them out. I still havnt caught anything on top water with a MMD Splash prawn. Its now retired. Perhaps your lures only suit Queensland or Northern NSW because the one I mentioned don't seem to work down South Coast NSW. I think its really about where you are trying to go fishing because my lure selections are very different.
@@sweatyjester I agree. My original point is that they may be kid friendly but they don't necessarily get the fish to eat them. I am an experienced angler and I struggle using some of these yet others work.
Hey mate I got a few packets. I find the electric chicken really good. Its UV too. Try that or if your willing to wait a few days to save a few $ go ebay
Hey would like to know what you think of the Berkeley gulp range. They are like dynamite for me but I never see anyone use them and am not sure why? Have you used them?
Hi Ammon, I’ve grown up using leader because of the ultra clear canals I fish and seeing the Bream get timid some days. That said, if you’re getting action, you’re onto a winner. Test both and see what works for you best... it might have minimal or no real change to make it worth doing

Good review on these lures. Soft plastics seem the best for beginners for cost mostly, I would rather loose 3 to 5 soft plastics than one hardbody

2.5 inch grubz Zman or any other brand. I rig them on #2 weedless snakelock 1/4 oz or 1/0 jighead same weight.

Hey Dwayne. I cut a small piece of plastic from a treble pack and push it into place like a keeper. ;)

Curious why u use a 6 pound leader on a 6 pound line?? Why not just put lure on end of line as I still get a lot of action with no leader...TIA
