- Black and white Brisbane taxi diver starts swearing and threatening stops the cab in the middle of a busy road still 20 minutes away to my destination demanding $100 cash when my trip will only cost about $20 when I tell him I’m paying by card he starts swearing at me I get out of the cab because his threatening behaviour and he gets out swearing don’t ever catch this crook of a taxi driver in Brisbane disgusting behaviour.

@@AjithKumar-uk1wq in Australia there is a law to demand for upfront fare if the rider seems to be dodgy as there’s been cases where people run off without paying taxi drivers. So in Taxi driver’s defence he didn’t do anything wrong until the rider denied to pay upfront cost.

It’s actually illegal.
That’s a fail practice unless if they introduce certain rules and require based on experience. You can’t just pick and choose to ask money upfront.

The passenger is intoxicated probably after a night out. You can clearly make out from his voice. Hence the driver is asking the punter to pay first before giving him the ride in order to avoid the risk of not getting paid.

The driver’s first line was polite and kind: “you pay for now” meaning there was a trip already made (for 7$!?) and he wanted the amount settled before going anywhere else. Then the passenger replied to the elderly driver: “I ain’t paying for any sh**”. This got the driver angry. Passenger, you are inconsiderate, arrogant and inhuman.

Taxi drivers in Australia are allowed to set their own fare/offer a fare to the passenger, in response to Uber's surge pricing where Uber can charge more at a particular time and the passenger is free to take it or leave it. The driver and passenger had agreed on a fare so the meter was not in use. Taxi drivers can use the meter or don't have to use it and that is protected by law. The industry changed after Uber entered the market. Here in Victoria the rules state that passengers can ask the driver to use the meter or can agree to a fixed fare.
