State of Nazareth Speedway in 2021.

- Once heralded as "The World's Fastest 1-Mile Oval" Nazareth Speedway nestled in the heart of Lehigh Valley, has been out of commission since 2004. I have mixed together bits from what I understand is the final NASCAR race to ever happen here with drone footage of the current state, filmed roughly 1 month ago.
To note, the connection with the drones live feed was not perfect for a lot of this due to unforeseen signal interference or something when operating the track. The pilot of this drone is experienced and FAA 107 certified, including having a spotter keep visual on the drone at all times. This is imperative to a safe flight regardless of how advanced drones get or how comfortable you are.
Nevertheless, it was a blast to film and although I don't condone exploring the track on foot, we do see a couple visitors throughout the clip.

Nazareth closed in 2004 - North Wilkesboro and Rockingham don't even look in anywhere as bad a shape this track does - I hope Junior and Matt do a Lost Speedway episode on it sometime
Great video. What a shame to see this. I visited from England for the 2000 Champ Car race. Amazing weekend, awesome track and incredible race. Short circuits are being redeveloped over here too. Once they're gone you'll never get them back :-(
That's the whole problem. Everyone wants housing, housing, food, shopping malls etc but pretty soon there will be no enjoyment left in society because we let it get eaten away.
Shame such a beautiful unique great racing track to be abandoned by nascar.

Indeed it is. The track I believe could have been and may still be able to be salvaged, however the township responsible for the oversight included a claus to any interested party of the property that no racetrack of any kind can ever be put in motion again - effectively killing it dead in it's tracks. Truly a shame as tracks all over the world are in danger of being replaced by expensive housing on a seemingly endless basis - those that have survived have been restricted in noise due to misunderstanding homeowners. People who get discounts on houses because they are near racetracks, knowing this they still complain tirelessly and inevitably, the track becomes disused. This is especially unfortunate because racing even just a track day is not cheap, but motoring enthusiasts have kept it alone for so long - something I truly hope never dies even with the inevitable push EVs in the not too distant future. They brought north wilkesboro back, Nazareth’s speedway should have some attention to it
That would be monumental if it came back! No reason it can't. Look, lime rock park has no problem surviving despite being a smaller track compared to most road racing courses.
That will never happen, International Speedway Corp put in a competition clause that who bought the track would not reopen the track
It's not zoned to be a race track
Its was no loss as far as open wheel racing goes. Just like Cicero outside of Chicago, it was a one lane race track where no one could pass. When the leaders came up on lapped traffic, they would spend 10 laps trying to find their way past and forget about any passes for the lead. I went to two Indy Car races there and passed on the third.
If I were an indycar team I would have bought this track when it went up for sale years ago and turned it into my team's hq. A private oval with a real pit road and tons of space with the bleachers gone seems like the perfect place for a race team.
But alas, that is not the case with poor Nazareth Speedway. This is an example of a racetrack that is truly too far gone and can't be saved. Hopefully whatever becomes of the land is something more useful or needed in that town.

In my opinion this is the best short oval track ever. Richmond is a VERY distant second. The open wheel racing on this track was unreal. I love that it was basically like a road course with all left turns and two major elevation changes. We don't even HAVE ovals with elevation changes anymore in any of the major league racing series.
how is richmond even in the top 10? have you been to the deep south where the best tracks are?

Bristol, Martinsville, Nashville, North Wilkesboro, and Rockingham are all easily ahead of Richmond.
It's not even a oval. It's a triangle. That was part of the problem. 2 asphalt triangle tracks in pa. When jandil bought it they even stated that in the contract. I'm actually in shock it hasn't been raised to the ground and had warehouses and hud put in since that's all they know how to do anymore. I have nothing but contempt for what that family has done to this area.

Forcing a famous raceway to be abandoned for no reason because you're a miserable human being is no way to govern.

Is it easy to get into? I grew up at this speedway watching CART, Id like to pay my respects one last time before she's gone forever
In 1994 My brother had a 91' Mustang,and Bobby Rahaul Track time was there. He had good heads and a nascar rear, set up a bit for track racing. A guy had a 93 ZR1 Brand new with the steering wheel molded to his hands, a 87 z52, few other cars but we were about the fastest, track guys had those Porsche 944s, Fast cars. Then there was this on Guy, had 2 cars, Both turbo cars, A Dodge Horizon Turbo, and TC3 Turbo and they were fast to. I found and still have the ear plugs from Scott Pruett who had a test session days before. They have Honda on them and he must have worn them. Ate at the restaurant near by and found out what Scrapple was. I will never forget Nazareth.

No. It was a dirt track before this, and a horse racing track before that.
Loved that racetrack!! So sad to see it like that!!
