Like any type of competition, you're competitors are what it's all about. These wing cars are very fast, but it's all about preparing the motors, car setup, body mounting, track glueing, etc. in addition to being a good driver. In this video which is 5 years old, the third driver on the right is Brad Friesner (of Canada) who recently set a new world record for "Open" class qualifying of 1.28 seconds as well as total laps for a race (5 min. heats on 8 lanes). Brad is the new World Champion for the Open class.
I like the no holds barred super fast idea, reminds me of how Formula 1 racing used to be. Very intellectual though, largely about the engineering, instead of driving, like how formula 1 became, which limited the appeal to many spectators. I think it's good to have this sort of racing along with other sort limited and controlled to make for more driving skill and thus more crashes, lol.
A sign on the side of the track says "STUPIDFAST". Pretty much have to agree there. 300 laps in 3 minutes. My count. Thats what it felt like after I screwed my head back on. Watch once. One ti.e too many.
I love slot cars !, I used to race them when I was a kid I’m 67 now.... But I don’t know if I like these new super fast cars ....??? I kind of like to be able to see the car going around the track.....!
There was a guy who used to race a DeLorean slot car there but it kept disappearing and leaving flames on the track....he was soon kicked out of the club 😉
When I was younger... much younger, some friends and I got into slot car racing. We would visit the local slot car facility, buy track time, etc. This was in the mid 1960s. It became obvious to me then that just like real race cars, there had to be limits put on engine power, tires, car weights, etc. If not, then the sky was the limit and the cars would become essentially unraceable. If not unraceable, then absurdly fast, keyword; absurdly. Now and then I think about getting back into it, after all, it was fun. But I'd like to see a racing league that had distinct limits on car specs that would slow the cars down considerably. If nothing else were accomplished, at least a person would be able to actually see the car he is racing.
+Chicago Shawn The scale classes are the most popular these days to be honest. The wing cars you see here might get more videos but the races are few and far between. If you're in Chicago there is a decent track still open last I checked and they should have weekly races like you described. Also take a look at the forums online to learn more.
RisvoldTheGreat Thanks for the response. I visited a slot car track about a year ago. The track itself was located just inside the door so when I went in, I was greeted by a slot car whizzing by like a bullet. There was just one guy on the track but I stopped and watched for a few minutes. To be completely forthright, the speed was just absurd, "absurd" as in "no thanks". I really think I had it right in my original comment as far as what had to happen to slot car racing: restrictions on the cars just as there are restrictions on real race cars to improve competition, and the racing experience in general..
Chicago Shawn There's MANY classes from the current super popular Retro on up to the cars that are one of the fastest accelerating things on wheels. Before you write them off I highly recommend taking a look at the Retro classes along with what they call Hard body classes.I think you'll really like the old school scale style cars. They are a slow "drivers" type car where detail and the build are a large part of it if you want ;) Since the hardbody classes are based on model kits etc. Some guys really go all out in the detail department and some keep them simple.
The shop we used to go to actually had limits on the tires and bodies as to weight and what kinds of tires could be used for certain races and car body types. The car I had was just a beginner model but dang did we have fun putting that thing thru it's paces course I had two or three bodies cause my car for some reason was attracted to the pole that the track was wrapped around similar to the pole in the video.
These cars (OMO wing car class) go around 100 mph. Scale speed would be 24X100= 2,400 mph. The current world record for qualifying (Open class wing cars) is 1.28 seconds (155 ft. track length). This equates to 137 miles per hour or 3,288 scale miles per hour (137x24). Electric motor cars go very fast such as TESLA.
Open Class motors, Samarium Cobalt magnets (up to 20 per side), hand wound armatures, approximately the size of a U.S. quarter, capable of 300,000 r.p.m.. .
It's easier in person but keep in mind these open class cars are insane. There's tons of different classes to race but these are the fastest, well second fastest. The Pro open class allows motor changes during the race so they go a little faster lol.
This is a joke, it is not even racing when the cars are nothing more than a blur. Take me back to the late 1960's when you could actually see the cars go around the tracks. We also custom built our cars back then, but we made realistic car styles. Raced on 4 different commercial tracks. It was fun back then.
I can guarantee that it takes a lot more skill then you think. You wouldnt make it around the track once and I can promise you that.If you're anywhere near NJ and want to make a friendly wager I'd be willing to show you ;-) The truth is to go fast it's like walking on the edge of a knife,if you go too fast you crash and if you dont go fast enough the body doesnt create enough down force and once again you'll crash...............Oh and if that isnt enough, they run a class with almost identical motors on a flat track that has no banking and bodies that have no wings for down force and I can assure you they take a LOT of skill to drive.
Certain slot cars are difficult to drive. Wing Cars aren't in that category, you can see the guy in the white shirt not even letting off the throttle the whole way around and for the rest on them they're bliping maybe twice on this big track. Yeah if you don't do it right you'll come off but there are much more difficult car to race than these. Don't get me wrong wing cars are cool just from the shear speed they can go but as far as something that takes your complete undivided attention to drive, wing cars arent that especially the way they glue the tracks for these things.
Just floor the controller. Hold it the full lap, do it again. Skillful driving boys. Why not just and on/off switch ? Who needs a driver anymore with these cars ?
That is true. We used to rent the store cars for two hours and yes they were crap on the body but they were there for people who did not or were not sure of the sport and or did not want to waste the money if they did not like it. We were kids under the age of 14 so we were shown how to control and just let loose but thankfully we had a cool shop owner who did not care if we crashed the cars cause he had a stockpile of bodies to change them with.
wtf... they don't even control the speed. why not just have and on off switch. no skill racing? i raced in the 60's. much slower but at least driver kill involved. this is a joke
I see alot off crying too fast boo hoo i used to race 27 class and untill you drive one of these surely dont knock it there was alot of skill that went in building the kamen or coford moters that went into these as well as the chasi set up and it took skill to drive if anything they were never fast enough lol i miss racing 1/24 scale but here in oh its all but dead so now i fly giant scale 3d airplanes
These guys look like cats watching goldfish in an aquarium !!
it's the first time i really need to watch a video in 0.25 speed

I raced in 2 world championships one in 1978 and one in 1982 . Great fun.

Best track that l have 👀👀 hands down
I'd like to see this in slower motion. I'd like to see how sideways these cars get in the corners
The future of human transportation in 1/24 scale.
That is mental fast
JUST AMAZING !!!!!

Chicago Shawn if you cant see it, simply means you need to brush up your skills☺ sad not to many local tracks around anymore

Its going so fast how can you enjoy it?
And still the king track rules? I'd have thought at least someone would have come out with a new layout by now.
Damn... how fast do these things go...mph?

@@1ktanaka Thanks. I thought my rc. Traxxas was fast. But that's ridiculously fast.
I love this! No omo tho

@@mortensen1961 Wow, that all sure looks like some fun and thanks for letting me know!
Long time rc car guy here. How dafuq do you keep track of your car. It's a blur....
офигеть
я не вижу модели машин ,как они ими управляют?
Интересно с как быстро они едут. Занимался трассовым моделизмом в Аничковом дворце в 2001, скорости были не больше 80 наверно, а тут просто пули☺
how can you see your car ? 😂

Paint it neon and drive one corner ahead.
grandpa uses only full throttle :-))
My Brother is building me a wing car, these are so fast.
The best was the Canadian Trevor that F ed up the other Canadian Brad by talking to him during the race lol Eh, Were is the washroom??!! lmfao
E quem, ganhou?
Juha Yli-Sipola won the OMO race. Here's the final OMO race results: socald3.smugmug.com/Wing-Car-races/2013-Wing-Worlds/OMO/i-p3GjzmN
Thank you!
How can you tell which one you are going that fast?
Pause at 0:08 and you can see inside lanes start yikes
My neck hurts
wtf why just not turn on the game and come back next day to see who won.
Tomarock...go!
Wtf?!

I remember when slot car racing took some skill and was fun.
MAGA
Fast but because of how much downforce the bodies make they take next to no skill to drive

They're way too fast and unrealistic, like invisible bullets. Not that good. I mean, what vehicle would go that fast in reality?
There's no way cars can go that fast, must be filmed faster.
No, they are going the actual speed. I know because I used to race that very class at that very track.
Im a car guy, an RC Car hobbyist a racing drone pilot but i could never get into these slot cars, there to fast i don't see the point. To each his own
What is the challenge I'm driving a car that you never have to let off the trigger. No skill necessary to drive these cars
lol I cant see any car racing.

Too fast, I liked it better when you could power slide.
no woman,
Has to be the most annoying thing EVER. Single guys club!!!!
Glued track........not impressed. Run the same cars on a non glued surface. Now that is racing.
That's shitty, since they're way too fast! Slow down use scale cars and deliver a race that a crowd want's (and is able) to see...
