With that background music, for a minute I thought I had clicked the Pakistan Truck channel.😇 Nice job guys
The besttime lapse frame stretch I've ever seen
thanks
Great job, you make it look so easy, love your work!
Thanks for watching
Love the work yall do. I wish i was closer to let your shop re-do my whole truck.
maybe someday lol i have another video coming out talking about some things thats went on the last few months and why i have been not getting videos out like i should. we are not doing much outside work currently we have like 6 of our own trucks we are building or trying to get in to build right now. thanks for watching
Thank you for the sweatshirt , You guys do amazing work
Any time!
YES!!!!! Another McDonald video!!!
Awesome Job Guys
thank you
Great Job!! guys. Very professional. Hopefully once I get my 379 I can get this done as well.
I enjoyed your timelapse video!! Keep up the good work ☺️
Thank you! Will do!
When welding the frame back together, what % of glass, heat and speed on your welder do you usually run on a Freightliner frame? Thanks👍🤠
Nice work indeed. I have some Cuban buddies down here in New Orleans that’s about to do the same work on my FL Classic for a very very affordable price👌🏾✅
Very cool!
Would you mind recommending the local shop down here in New Orleans. I have a 379 I'm looking to get alot of work done to
Glad to see u back! Can’t wait to see up and coming videos
More to come! thank you
You guys did an awesome job!!

Absolutely love your videos ! Commentary, time lapse, quality of work, end result are incredible.. you guys rock 🤜 and I was jamming to the music the whole time 🤟 honestly tried to look it up haha. Some day maybe I'll purchase one of your rides ! You and your team have a blessed day.
thanks for the comment
What is the disc conversion going for I have a western star 4900sa ARI big bunk sleeper
I know this is 2 years old but I have a question. I have Meritor locking diffs with disc on my current Pete 384 dump/transfer truck that I want to move to a newer truck. Have a line on a 2017 Pete with the same air suspension (low Air Leaf) but drum/no lockers/hwy gears which should be an easy swap. What did you have to do about the actual air brake system on the truck as well as ABS?
the abs is the main hurtle when doing these conversions. it took us over 3 weeks to figure it out and my brother doesn't let that secret out since it took so many man hours to get figured out. we will do these swaps for people if they want it done. thanks for checking out the video. fee free to give us a call at the shop if you are looking to get any work like this done. 7126523834
My dads old truck, had a lot of time and money wrapped up in it before the total
Hell yeah new vid........thx bro!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Where did you get the steel inner frame That used to slide into stock frame? Do you have a bit of a metal fabrication shop? Love the videos keep up the good work
I liked the music, what's the name of the song ?, want to play it when going down Coquihalla highway.
The one we did we got the cutoff with about 3ft in front of the spring hangers so we would only have one weld
when you can find them like that that is great. we cant always find them with enough rail left on
if you don't have a cut off long enough for 1 weld you can unbolt the front drive axle suspension and cut the original frame further back and still only have 1 weld. with the insert i wouldn't be worried about it but id prefer a single weld as well.
You can stretch a frame like that? Thought you had to Z notch it? Just curious.
when you use an insert there is no reason to use a z cut or any other cut the strength is in the insert. we will not do a stretch without an insert we have seen too many other peoples trucks come into our washout with the frame having issues. in 20+ years we have never had an issue
@@McDonaldChromeShop cool! Very interesting! Thank you.
@@McDonaldChromeShop , totally agree !!!!
I don't like the way "we" do the jo I nuts most of the time, but if the truck will see heavy loads and abuse, if they have me do the work, it gets the sleeve, just like you did on this project !!
I'm betting you got the cutoff here.
Very nice work !!!!!
Wish I lived closer,,, but there is a chance I would spend summers in a sled,,,,,,, 😀👍
What are those discs between the Rear wheels? Never seen those anywhere.
How much did this cost ?
Um abraço pra TD equipe ai
What’s the rough estimate on something like this? Great work btw 👍🏼
we did this in 5 days
Was it cheaper to buy the cut off then buy all the parts to convert his to disc?
yes its cheaper parts wise and way cheaper labor wise
Aí um ótimo trabalho aí na nave ficou top show
Question is why would people even want to mess with the frame. Once you cut it or heat it up it'll never be the same again. But you did an excellent job though. Looks like it never was cut.
over 20 years of doing this and we have never had an issue with frames. that's why we use inserts, we feel its the safest way to do the job.
Left Lane Cadillac!
Nice but should show us the the truck when everything was done
i cant i was out of town and the customer picked it up on a sunday. my brother is not one to do much filming so when i got back and it was gone i was bummed we didnt have any video of it from the side completed but it is what it is
10-4 good work like videos 👍
Back when I worked at Peterbilt, welding on HSLA rails was a no no. You lose the heat treat in the heat affected zone(s). Squared ends on your insert makes a sudden change to the stiffness of the rail and ending it forward of the forward drive axle puts that in an already high stressed section of rail. Not trying to be a dick but you open yourself up to a big lawsuit if that truck is in an accident.
over 20 years of doing this averaging around 15-20 a year never had an issue even on trucks that have been rolled or in other accidents. frames have never had a fault.
Always some know-it-all boomer telling people who have actually done things that they can't be done.
What is the cost of the extension and disc conversion
It depends on the how we are able to get the disc brake cut off and front axle for and how long they are stretching for the cost of the driveshaft to be made but we usually quote $25,000. We always figure on coming in at or under what we quote but we have to have our ass covered if unexpected things happen. I cant remember exactly but i think this job got done for a few thousand under the quote even after having to change out the rears and changing all of the studs so he could have all aluminum rims also i believe we did a stainless steel deck plate, and machine polished his wheels. i think he aded a few other small things that he wanted done also.
@@McDonaldChromeShop 25K dam I'M getting my done for 20k less
@@bigcubandog so you bought a disc brake cut off with good rear ends, 5th wheel, drive shaft made, correct length studs for dual aluminum rims not too short for steel/aluminum rims, and had someone install all of this and get the ABS system working all road ready and legal for under $5,000? more power to them if they can do it for that. We simply can not,
@@McDonaldChromeShop Yes I'm pay $5000 for the same job you doing on that video, strech to 300wb, disc brake frame painted on my freightliner classic 84"

Very nice work y'all done there, fock the haters and armchair critics!
Would you tell me, are the inners you place inside the original rails are
they heat treated like the frame or not? Thanks and again your workmanship
is first class and looks AWESOME! Peace
i believe they are, i would need to confirm with my brother who actually does the builds, i run our chrome shop and to all of our media.
Thinking about putting disc brake on my 379x,should i buy a cut off
thats how we would do it
@@McDonaldChromeShop I'm on east coast, how hard is it to find cut off with disc brakes
video is great, music is horrible...
i had the last 4 videos before this get copyright strikes for music so we use what we can find. if it bothers you just turn your volume down. We will keep trying to find better music but honestly that process is what takes us the longest to produce a video
Is it difficult to get it aligned after getting it stretched?
no, not if its done correctly
How much $?? I need that
🤔🤔🤔 would that setup work on a freightliner classic xl
this setup will work on most any truck
Does anyone know the ballpark price for doing this
are you talking just like this with the disc brakes and front axle?

we did this in a week or so
Hi
What do y’all charge to stretch one out Awesome job guys
just a stretch or with a different cut off?
@@McDonaldChromeShop just a stretch
Any more videos of this truck???
no this was a customers truck. we only filmed what we did to the truck
@@McDonaldChromeShop ok
First don't understand why you did such long frame inserts and why you didn't use more original frame on the cut off. Would have been alot strong with frame to frame with inserts. Than I'm sorry but I'd never use your shop. Did all that cutting and grinding and never put protect plastic on the truck. Just let the Sparks beat on the back of the truck and tanks...that was not at all professional. I'd been pissed if this was my truck getting treated like that
so to address your concerns, first we would for sure use more original frame rail off of the cut off if the cut off had that much rail. its difficult to find disc brake cut offs in the first place we try to get them with as much frame attached as possible but again that all depends on how long someone is trying to go. also to add to the difficulty to find these cut offs is many of them out there are off of automatics with paccar gearing set up to work with their paccar automatic transmission and you can not swap that out and make it work with a manual. so most important is to find one that came off of a manual transmission truck which is hard enough then get, then the longest rails possible but pretty hard to find both on the same cut off thats right for every build. second we use long inserts to strengthen the frame as much as possible. third there is this magical thing called liquid mask, its used to protect things when your painting or doing other such things then it can be washed off nice and easy. Fourth we are very glad you wont be using our shop. As we are booked up for basically over a year out and this is exactly the reason we work on very few customer trucks these days. this month along we have turned down 7 complete builds with anywhere from $80k to over $120K budgets, 4 stretch jobs, and 2 wanting disc brake cut offs installed, because one we simply are booked up between customers who have seen in person the quality of work we do and really like the work we put out and with our own trucks we build for resale. So to sum up for ya we are totally ok with not having your business Stephen but thanks for watching!
great video but what the hell is with that music PLAY some trucking tunes
gladly! But sadly i cant buy the rights to mainstream music. @nd the longest process for any video edit i go is finding copy right free music to use. so if the music is terrible that i find feel free to turn the volume down of not watch... i do the best i can with the time i got to make these videos. thanks for watching
ive never even stretched a truck and even i know better than to just chop it off straight down, dont care who you are its gonna crack
Never had one crack yet
Not if done right. But to me this wasn't done right. I always go frame to frame than insert. Buy I also respect people's truck and put up protective plastic to cover all painted parts...
that shows for sure you have never stretched a truck then. over 20 years of stretching trucks like this and using inserts and have never had a crack or complaint. we have on the other hand had to redo other peoples work who cut the frames at angle or with z cuts but did not use inserts and the frames cracked and were bowing. One of the trucks we stretched was mine we added 6 foot to the frame made it 331" wheel base and i hauled cattle with it for over 5 years before we sold it and never had an issue. we have had trucks we stretched have roll over accidents and frames were all in tact no issues where we did our work. But im sure your right with all that knowledge you have from over 2 decades of doing this. oh wait you said you have ZERO knowledge thats right makes perfect sense
what is the rear cut off out of?
it was off of a newer peterbilt but i dont remember the details off the top of my head
Any estimate how much you charge to stretch the frame ?
depends on length and a few other things but without knowing specifics ill give a range of $8k-12k i would need to know more to get closer, we are really booked but your welcome to call and i could get it closer for ya.
You can get it done in Miami the right way !!! Heat treating your chassis and no double frame for 4k
@@dulian08 can you recommend the shop that stretches frames in Miami ?
First time watching your channel you guys do nice work! Your choice in
back ground music sucks my opinion.
feel free to find the copyright free music we need to use and send it our way. the longest process of making a video is finding the music we can use.
@@McDonaldChromeShop I will work on that keep up the good work👍
👍👍👍👏👏👏. BRAZIL
So no Z cut is needed?
🤷🏻♂️
a z cut is only needed if your trying to do it not using inserts. we have had many trucks come in here that were z cut with no inserts that were cracked and bowing that we had to redo for the customers that were done somewhere else originally. we only stretch using inserts for the strength.

How much does a job like this Cost?
depends how we find the disc brake cut off. they are getting harder to find. every job is different but we quote between $20k-$25k out the door. there are a lot of small issues that come up with this conversion.
@@McDonaldChromeShop did you guys add air ride to the front as well?
Great video enjoyed it. but the music choice was aggravating.
some days its not a choice. its hard finding royalty free music sometimes. i figure if its that bad for someone they can turn the volume down
@@McDonaldChromeShop yup
aside from the weird indian music why would you not cover that cab and sleeper before all that grinding, welding and paint?
read the other response to the same question. its covered with liquid mask that we can wash right off when we are done.
Besides Adding Disc Brakes & Stretching The Frame, What Else Are Y'all Doing?
It's more than that. All 3 axles replaced, new wires, airlines and driveshafts just to start. Everything under the truck has to be extended or replaced
Like Danny mentioned new drive shaft was made, hanger bearings, all air lines and electrical extended, add cross members where needed, in this case the the cut off had steel and aluminum rims on it when it was purchased so we had to beat out all the longer studs on the old cut off and install on the new one. also swapped out his rear end gears so he kept the gearing he wanted. check all wheel seals and bearings in the new cut off make sure all is good or replace anything that needs it. on the front axle we check bearings and seals too. then we set the ride height and make sure everything is true and will drive great. One of the hardest parts we learned on the first one of these we did was getting the ABS to work right from the truck that had standard breaks to the disc brake cut off. im sure im missing some things. but thats the basics
✋👍👍👍👏
8 thumbs down drive a.........(Fill in the blank)
usually the case lol
Someone call Greg_a
Doesnt make sense cutting the truck at the weakest point. we do ours under the fifth wheel right between the axles alot more work but the strongest part of the whole frame. Anyone who doesnt understand these trucks that drives them all the time next time you see one making a corner look where they are twisting the fram the most. m Between the back of cab and fifth wheel. This is the cheap and easy way to do it.
we have been stretching trucks for over 23 years never had one issue with a frame we have done even if a truck has had a rollover acident. we double frame and add cross members. you do you we will continue to do what has worked for over 2 decades. we have had multiple trucks that were stretched by someone else pull in our driveway with there tanks dragging because someone else's stretch failed. good news is if you do not like how we do it do not have us stretch you're truck.
also this was not a stretch job they wanted a disc brake cut off put on, so thats what we did
Just say no to crack.
An to fell
Pull your pants up! Good grief I don't want to see that crack!!!!!!!
if you're worried about brads crack you're focused on the wrong thing in this video. When your working on trucks for 10+ hours a day the last thing you are worried about is if your crack is showing. but hey you focus on whatever you like. thanks for watching brads crack

Sad to see a skilled shop not have pit covers to stop anyone accidentally falling in while working on truck, hurting someone at work really takes the shine needlessly off doing a good job, no job is worth getting hurt for and a little preventative action goes a long way especially showing employees you care about their welfare !
where in this video are you concerned about an open pit? the last worry one of our employees have is walking into an uncovered pit that does not move. our pit 98% of the time has a truck over it and the other times there is a cover that goes on it. we do not through the cover on if we are just going to put another truck over it right away, so really have no idea what you are talking about. side not we have had this pit for 12 years and no one has fell into it.
