I made the same mistakes. It took me years to get a hold of my spending. Now I stay out of stores and don't buy things online. I also won't give my daughter any money anymore. These have helped. Even though costs have gone up., I'm doing ok and saving a little.
The show glossed over the fact that her kids have it better than his kids, despite everyone living under the same roof. That is a recipe for resentment.
Hubby and I used envelopes for budgeting the day we got married. We were married for 51 1/2 years when he passed. We always lived beneath our means. We split bills according to income. If I made 60% of our total income, I put 60% of my income into the family budget. Worked great all the years together. We. both always knew what the bills were and what our savings were.
I feel like those who receive child support should have track expenses and it should be adjusted accordingly. If you’re shacked up and not paying rent or utilities, and instead using the child support you would have used on yourself, then it should be adjusted to not include housing costs. Might also help cut down on divorced mothers dragging their children from relationship yo relationship.
It amazes me how many of these couples say "my money." It's not your money. You marry someone, the money becomes both of yours. You don't have to merge accounts or give up personal responsibility, but you don't get to say it's not your debt, or the money you make is 'yours.'

I clicked because we have six kids as well and I was hoping to hear what Gail would put in the jars for a family of 8. But it turns out only two of their kids live in the household and Gail didn’t even do their jars. Any thoughts, everyone? What should we spend on food? Clothing/gifts?
It is usually 25% of the income divided out into the jars. Add or subtract from each jar until you find the amount that works for you. If you have extra save it up in an emergency fund. If you don't have enough then you will have to cut back. If you are not able to do the 25% make a list of all your fixed expenses and savings then you get what is left over.
Please bring this show back. Gail, people today need you more than ever. This show has helped me so much stick on my budget and not overspend.

People who lived before credit cards were so readily available weren't more virtuous or practical than us but they didn't have all the capabilities we have to destroy their lives.

When i hear debt and "unemployed" in the same sentence. Yeah that lady has issues just as much as he. She likes to blame him, but its shared debt now. Get up off your ass and help pay for it until you get your regular job back. Unemployment doesnt pay a lot.and her spoiling her kids but leaving his out, regardless of if their in another home is just ick. She likes to lay a lot of blame but cant take responsibility for her own shit. She likes to pretend she's so great at everything, yet 15,0000 is nothing to scoff at. As soon as she said he was spending $3600 on cash advances on his credit card and he turned all red and said he couldn’t remember where that was going, I knew this man was cheating and see escorts and probably has a coke problem too.

I clicked because we have six kids as well and I was hoping to hear what Gail would put in the jars for a family of 8. But it turns out only two of their kids live in the household and Gail didn’t even do their jars.
Any thoughts, everyone? What should we spend on food? Clothing/gifts?
It is usually 25% of the income divided out into the jars. Add or subtract from each jar until you find the amount that works for you. If you have extra save it up in an emergency fund. If you don't have enough then you will have to cut back. If you are not able to do the 25% make a list of all your fixed expenses and savings then you get what is left over.
Jordan Paige at fun frugal and free has some great videos on monthly food budget. She has a big family. I hope that helps.
