Yeah, I've learned a lot from agadmator, but mostly of a general nature. I could learn a lot more if I would play through these games a few times and really get up to speed on what happened.
This reminds me of those cartoons where one character keeps returning for each fight more injured and bandaged than before. Like by now Harrwitz would be in a wheelchair with one leg propped up, an IV tube, an oxygen mask, an eye patch, and half his body wrapped in gauze.

This has to be one of my favourite Morphy versus Harrwitz games! Threatened mate on move 6. Battery on 7 and 8. By move 10 the king was already running. Agad's announcement *As of move 11 we have a completely new game* Really relentless hammering against black, loved every moment of it.
1 franc in 1858 was the equivalent of 0.29 grams of gold. That was during the reign of Napoleon III. So 295 francs gives us almost US$ 5,000 based on the gold price today. But that is based on gold which is the only consistent commodity for reference during this entire time. If it was fiat currency it would probably be worth much more.
@@rahulkhanduri2471 Unfortunately that doesnt work because the commodity prices of the materials to manufacture goods also varies a lot over time and are geographically dispersed in terms of demand/supply. For example, a pair of jeans in US was (and still is) much cheaper in 1890 than in France. But red wine has always been cheaper in France until California became a massive producer of it. Even within Europe prices fluctuate a lot based on the region they are from. The price of copper, for example, was always low until global telecommunications really started to pick up the pace in the 90s.

And also the price of most things has been falling relative to wages. Food for instance with all tecnological advancements. It’s hard to say how much exactly this was, but it seems to me that gold did a good job there. It wasn’t a huge sum, but it was at least a few months of wages for an average worker.
Harrwitz played this game like a beaten man. Despite what he said, Harrwitz seemed to have no more will to compete against Morphy. Morphy just controlled this game in such a devastating manner. This one musta really stung.
Yeah, this was surprising. Harrwitz may not be as good as Morphy, but he usually plays much better than I do. In this game, Morphy already had a huge advantage by move 8 just by playing the sort of moves a 1300-level player could find.
I also check this channel ONLY for Morphy Saga. Don't care much of the recent chess matches, they're inferior imo. Hope Aga would upload the good stuff in quicker pace though...

How did you get to this result? I can't get any number for french inflation before 1900. Even then, it would be probably be something like 110 000€, I think

Random #Suggestion for the channel: I love the videos and sometimes have the video running while gaming, or sometimes just get distracted and find myself drawn to the screen based on commentary, watching a series of moves, not knowing whether they are the actual moves played, or one of the side explorations. The suggestion is to perhaps have some kind of colored border around the chess board, or a banner, or something visible, indicating when theoretical side sequences are being explored. Even sometimes having the volume low, it can be easy to lose track of what is going on when moves are happening/undoing etc. Love the channel! Cheers

This time, in contrast to previous videos, There seems to be some low frequency reverb at times, especially at the end of some sentences. A few good examples: 1:29 "...most of you **KNOW** 1:31 "...Morphy continues with d captures on **E5** 1:51 "**SO INSTEAD** you **CAN'T** capture back..." Also, your microphone seems to "cut" all the sound if the volume is under a certain threshold. Due to the aforementioned constant small reverb, it is even more striking, and I found myself double-checking if it wasn't due to double-takes and splicing of two different bits of video together (which AFAIK you never do). You can hear it clearly here: 6:20 "...will come handy later in the game----. Queen to e6..." 6:33 "...then Queen to c3 and Horrowitz wins ---------- there is no way to prevent a loss here..." 7:20 "...wreak havoc along the H file----" 7:58 "...lose this terribly -------- so instead f6 check..." It's nothing massive or anything, it's just that I think in your previous place these issues weren't there and you asked for opinions so here's one :) Hope it helps! Cheers!
