Proportion of renter household income spent on rent and utilities has been much higher in Fredericton. Moncton, and Saint John for some time now than that of some equivalent size places in Ontario, BC, and Quebec and it has gotten worse over the last year.
@@ToCanada_andbeyond I can see a correction in the near future, but not for the pricing of goods and groceries; price gouging has always been an issue in NB due to lack of competition. As for housing, the time to get a good return was to buy before a year ago, as now you will probably not get the same return if you purchase today and sell a year from now. One thing I was surprised about when coming to NB was how pricey it was to eat out in restaurants; almost as insane as some of the biggest cities in Canada, but bakeries and ice cream take out was cheap; that being said, I have now idea why dairy is so expensive here. Over $7 for 4 litres of milk; over 25 percent more from where I came from.
How so much has changed in a year and how time flies. Brings to mind before covid the proportion of renter household income spent on rent and utilities in NB was OK, but now it is the highest in the country. The proportion is much higher in NB than some equivalent size places in BC, AB, and even ON. This is why so many long term tenants have been priced out of the rental market, as there is no control on annual rent increases for tenants in NB. It's only going to get worse. To think there are tens of thousands of renters in BC not paying much more than they did in the same unit for the last ten years whereas in NB there are no lack of renters in units they have been in for only 5 years that have seen their rent substantially increase as high as 30 to 100 percent, which is why many had to leave or even leave NB.
You are correct! We were not expecting big jumps in NB, now it seems almost impossible to find cheap housing in NB. We will make video on this soon. I also feels like we have been too biased towards NB, never discussed the hardships immigrants have to go through. Like housing, jobs, expensive groceries etc.

NB should at least have annual rent increase control especially if they are giving landlords more tax breaks and loopholes to get away with things most landlords could not get away with in many other provinces.
So for 2bedroom aprt the rent is around 1100 to 1300 I have seen a lot of ppl rent 2 bedroom aprt and then have roommate so eventually your rent will go down

Well, if you find a job in insurances companies they pay for your licensing, each proving in Canada have different insurance Laws, for example if you are working in NB you will have to pass insurance exam to be advisor. You can apply for insurance company, if you land the job you can then apply for work permit and enter in Canada.

One cost of living in Saint John, it the human cost. If you have underlying health issues especially in regards to lung related ailments. Also the amount of heavy metal toxins are high and its not good for seniors and children. Many people in Saint John are impacted by the toxins in the environment mostly children, which many still end up with permanent damage, but you don't often hear it in the media, because the family that owns the source of the toxins pretty much has a monopoly on the media and has taken over making policy for government in the province for decades. Saint John gets about 70 days of fog in the year, and this is the best time to avoid going out because the fog restricts the movement of air and captures the heavy metal toxins so you usually breath in more of it when there is fog.

Fredericton has good air, but the surrounding areas are over sprayed with pesticides and herbicides. The eeriest thing I first noticed when coming here and still do, is the region from Fredericton to Moncton lacks birds; I rarely see a flock of birds in the sky and there was hardly any bugs out last summer. I spend a lot of time outdoors daily and trips between Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton over the last two years. I recall decades ago seeing so many flocks of birds and bugs here.

Hi there, Medical is very bad specially now a days as hospitals are short staff, but if you can get your personal doctor with referral from friend you should be fine because you will have your own doctor. However, emergency rooms are nightmares. Sometimes you have to wait up to 8 hours

Look at other cities in Canada; there is a reason why this place is one of the least sought after places for Canadians to live and one of the hardest to retain youth and youth in the workplace even with the "affordable" houses. Also retaining new comers for the long run is very low here. If you can't afford a house, this is not the place to be a renter, as you can make much better wages where rents are about the same or only about 20 percent more than here. An example, you could easily get a job as a transit operator in BC and make 80K a year whereas in Saint John you would only make about 50K a year if you're lucky enough to get a job with them. In BC you could easily rent a nice apartment in the lower mainland for 1400 to 1600 a month including heat, and your electric bill would be about 25 a month. Also you would pay about half the provincial income tax rate of that of NB.

As an RN making easily over 6000 a month that is 25 percent of earnings.Heck a couple both working at a major grocery store in White Rock easily making a family income of over 5000 a month could afford would only be spending 30 percent of their family income. A similar apt to the one in White Rock in Fredericton or Quispamsis will cost about 1600 to 1900 a month and that doesn't include utilities. I see you left out that utilities is included in that 21 percent that pay over 50 percent of their income on rental housing also the the generous grant BCers get that have low income that rent.
That’s a good question to be very honest about it as a student you will be required to provide a proof of finance to be able to pay your bill and tuitio. Your part time job might help a bit but don’t take it as the only income for you to pay off your bills Let me know if you need more details

This is very wise to have a car right of the bat , because you will need to travel specially in first few days. There are many dealerships here in Saint John selling used cars. But we would recommend if you have little know how about cars buy it from FB Marketplace Or Kijiji you may save some money and get good deal! 🙂🙂

It isn't for many, as groceries, utilities, and taxes are high in NB. Even if you had a house paid for here, it is a higher cost of living compared to some other provinces with a paid off home. There is no lack of people especially seniors here in NB and even in Saint John that had paid off homes, but had to sell them because they couldn't afford the utilities and taxes on them and are now renters. One only has to compare a city that is relatively the same size of one in BC to NB for example. Benefits for seniors in BC are much superior to that of what is available for those in NB. Provincial Supplements for couples on GIS in BC is three to four times more than what they get in NB. Also the pathetic benefits seniors get in NB are very socially invasive and the qualifications are ridiculous leaving a lot of seniors left out whereas in BC they would not be. Also BC has Safer, which one of my tenants use; 23 percent of their rent is rental assistance. I have to remind them that they have more disposable income as renters than most low income seniors with houses in NB. Plus groceries are about 30 to 40 percent less and are taxed less in BC. No wonder so many seniors in NB on fixed incomes are cashing in on their house becoming renters; they can’t afford the property taxes, which are insanely high here and there is no discount for seniors on the equivalent here of the home owners grant like they get in BC. My neighbours here in NB are renters, and they sold their house because they couldn’t afford paying the utilities and taxes, which was came to 800 a month for a small house assessed at 300K. It was only assessed at 190K. A person in BC with a home assessed at 1 million would pay that much in total for taxes and utilities.
It really depends! I would say you would be getting around 4K a month after paying all taxes then think of 1200$ rent and all the other expenses! You could save spurns 1k a month. But if u r a PR holder u will be getting benefits for ur wife and 2 kids
I pay 59% tax a year! Everyone would be different. You have kids so maybe your tax would be lower or you might still pay and at the end you can claim it back. Even if you would use online calculator it can’t be accurate to the point

There is no such thing as smell in Saint John, city is clean but it is recommended not to live too close to Oil refinery.

There is low cost of living here in NB, you can still save good money by making 13.75/hr
It isn't for many, as groceries, utilities, and taxes are high in NB. Even if you had a house paid for here, it is a higher cost of living compared to some other provinces with a paid off home. There is no lack of people especially seniors here in NB and even in Saint John that had paid off homes, but had to sell them because they couldn't afford the utilities and taxes on them and are now renters.
One only has to compare a city that is relatively the same size of one in BC to NB for example. Benefits for seniors in BC are much superior to that of what is available for those in NB. Provincial Supplements for couples on GIS in BC is three to four times more than what they get in NB. Also the pathetic benefits seniors get in NB are very socially invasive and the qualifications are ridiculous leaving a lot of seniors left out whereas in BC they would not be. Also BC has Safer, which one of my tenants use; 23 percent of their rent is rental assistance. I have to remind them that they have more disposable income as renters than most low income seniors with houses in NB.
Plus groceries are about 30 to 40 percent less and are taxed less in BC. No wonder so many seniors in NB on fixed incomes are cashing in on their house becoming renters; they can’t afford the property taxes, which are insanely high here and there is no discount for seniors on the equivalent here of the home owners grant like they get in BC. My neighbours here in NB are renters, and they sold their house because they couldn’t afford paying the utilities and taxes, which was came to 800 a month for a small house assessed at 300K. It was only assessed at 190K. A person in BC with a home assessed at 1 million would pay that much in total for taxes and utilities.

It really depends! I would say you would be getting around 4K a month after paying all taxes then think of 1200$ rent and all the other expenses! You could save spurns 1k a month. But if u r a PR holder u will be getting benefits for ur wife and 2 kids

I pay 59% tax a year! Everyone would be different. You have kids so maybe your tax would be lower or you might still pay and at the end you can claim it back.
