I grabbed one of these already and it is buttery smooth to use. The Giltek ruk in titanium is my favorite still though. Also like the gerber prybrid

The Palmer looks interesting, thanks for the review! My favorite knife so far is the Tirant Razor V3 which is also a utility blade knife. I've featured a nice selection of such knives on my channel. Be well soon @Bo !

I use something similar: the Screwpop "Ron's utility knife". It's small enough for a keychain, uses the same razorblades and has a bonus bottle opener on the end. There's also a magnet on the back side that helps retract the blade back into place when you lift the retention arm after use. I love it!

I used to have one and when I got my Giltek ruk I gave it to a friend at work and he uses it daily for a while now. I will include that the screw pop is much cheaper and a smaller form factor

    Totally agree with you.
LOL I carry a small folding knife that uses box cutter blades and I don't mind if gets residue on it or break a blade or whatever I just replace the blade and I only paid about $10.00 USD for it.
On the expensive knives by all means buy them and enjoy them for the looks and for me the craftsmanship but I do recommend having a box cutter type knife for boxes, packages, etc .

Yeah, an inexpensive but great quality knife just for that task would be one from SAK aka Victorinox. Can't go wrong with those multitools

I have literally thousands of dollars in knives.
How do I usually open amazon packages? Grab whatever is nearest to me. Sometimes that's a knife, but usually its a screwdriver, keys, etc. 😅

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  2 года назад +1

True, I used to just grab "something" to open up boxes. However, this tends to get pretty messy. Lots of paper krums on the carpet. Or it just taking too long to make them smaller for the trash. So I prefer just to use a knife

Hmmm very interesting 🤔. I do work cutting up boxes I normally use an Xtchange box cutter for taped boxes and a screwpop edc utility blade ? I don't actually know the full name only by screwpop ? But I wouldn't mind trying that one out.

I love James Brand products, and the Palmer is very practical everyday tool for home. I wish James Brand did a collaboration on sleeve or case for us Type-A "lets keep our tools in pristine condition" people. I am going to search Etsy later today.

Totally understandable. There are a few cool sleeves out there. I'm sure you can find a cool leather version

i love utility blades if you don't want to have scuffs on it, better get a prybrid by gerber, it has a prybar also

So agree. I hated the glue residue left on my nice pocket knife. So getting The Palmer was a no brained. I own a regular box cutter but it sits in the kitchen drawer (that tool junk drawer we all have) but that is not always handy. This item is great and looks nice. And will make a great travel knife.

Put a Leatherman Brewser on your keychain; it’s perfect for opening boxes and costs $10.

I have a ceramic cutter from silhouette. I carry it when I think i need it in my pencil pouch. It has locking points it and clicks out. Good fidget toy if I cannot find my click erasers

I always use and carry knives that seem to be illegal in Germany like balisongs and automatics like the Microtech Ultratech.

To be fair: as long as you are behaving normally you probably never get frisked by police. However, it would be a shame if your expensive knife gets confiscated. Grüße zurück ✌️😉

I use the Titanium Pocket Tool from Big Idea Designs. Same blades, same price but is more pocketable and made from titanium. I guess the James Brand fits better in the palm of one's hand though.

I have seen the one from big idea. And I always wanted to try it. However, just based on the pictures it looks very "edgy" in a way that I would fear it could tear holes into my pants pockets. How is your experience with that?

Hey Bo - I have used both the Big Idea Design TPT Slide and the Rexford Rut. The TPT Slide also comes with a pocket clip and a place for a lanyard - no issues at all with damage to clothing. It is also slim enough to place in many wallets.

I highly recommend the Gerber Prybrid X - tiny, fine with German law - you can even drop the blade at the airport in case TSA gets wet eyes 😂
