    This is the BEST art video I have seen online in a long time. Thank you SO much for all your tips, support and the sharing of your talent. I love to watch you paint. I think one thing you have, that I need to work on, is a light touch. I’ve seen you paint, and watched the paint or brush go a way you didn’t intend. You just incorporate it into what you’re doing and keep going. Your work is filled with joy and lightness. I think it’s because that is what you feel when you paint. You are dancing along the page, not looking back and all your work is light and filled with happiness. Thank you so much Katie!!❤

    Speaking about the difference in looseness I’ve noticed that children’s illustrators in the US aren’t as loose as the ones in the UK. I’m not sure if that’s the same for fine art though because Sandi Hester has a very loose style doesn’t she? Lovely video Katie! x

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you Jessica, so good to hear your thoughts! Yes so true, Sandi's work is great example! I think I'm generally drawn to artists who are looser so perhaps not as noticeable for me because it's what I surround myself with, but it's a really interesting topic to think about!

    That first question is really interesting and something I’ve never thought of! I’d love to try kuretake paints one day, they look like a fun middle ground between watercolour and gouache and I always love the colours 🥰

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 месяца назад +1

      Same, it's definitely something I'm going to keep thinking about too and seeing what I notice from other illustrators in different countries! Oooh I think you'd love the kuretake paints, you hit the nail on the head there -- they really are a middle ground between the two and have really helped me fall in love with watercolour as I'm so used to gouache usually!

    I loved both of your paintings when I first saw them on Insta, your tulips are so vibrant and your goat is so cute, you always achieve such wonderful layers and textures😍 I’ve just received my Clairfontaine 20x20 sketchbook after your recommendation, first time using that brand but love the look of it in your videos. I’ve been trying to use sketchbooks more this past year and just have fun rather than feeling that I need everything to be ‘perfect’. I totally agree with you that we need to enjoy the process of creating and try to stop comparing or putting pressure on ourselves. Thank you for sharing🙏🏼

    I am struggle because of how my colors look in the real life vs how it looks like in other artist's photos and videos. They have so bright watercolor! And my are just bruh 😭. And I understand that this is filter which make them so bright, but I. WANT. IT. IN. REAL. LIFE and not just in photos. I am thinking about professional watercolor (Rembrandt), but stop myself 'cause its filter and not the guilt of my Van Gogh watercolors. Such a small problem, BUT AAAAAAHHHHH

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 месяца назад +1

      Hehe aw I understand!! Sometimes I wish that real life was as vibrant as I make it in my art and sometimes I wish the other way around too 🙈 you may find neon colours (such as some gouache shades like opera rose) would work well for you! ☺️

      Thank you so much! 🥰 Yes the Kuretake is like a mix of gouache and watercolour! Yes I'd say they're my most used supplies - I use luminance pencils in practically every piece I do, and sometimes vary the base layer between this Kuretake paint and traditional gouache 🤗

    Some great things to keep in mind on this video! Very inspiring ✨ thank you. I love watching you create in your sketchbook and seeing how you apply your layers and textures so quickly. Especially while I am trying to loosen up with my own art! Coming from tight, time consuming, realistic pet portraits has really caused a problem for me when trying to be more free with my art and to not focus on details so much! 😅

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 месяца назад

      Oh thank you so much! I totally get that!! I actually used to do really realistic work too - when I was in university I did a lot of realistic portraits drawn on Photoshop with my tablet! One of things I found really helped me to loosen up were short timed studies, I think that made a big difference 🤗 That way I really didn't have enough time to add in lots of details but learnt which bits I wanted to include to make a painting work!

    Love the art you made in this video ✨ The tulips were so beautiful 💛 Do you remember what yellow, orange and red luminance you used on them? I’m slowly building my collection and I don’t have any yellow or red ones, the ones you used look really pretty. I have the light and dark green that you used, but not the mid toned one, so the name of that one would also be appreciated 😄 I really love the way you paint flowers, they always turn out so beautiful and loose. I don’t quite get that look when I try, but I’m certainly practicing on painting more loosely 😊

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  2 месяца назад +2

      Aaah thank you so much 🥰 No problem, I'll list out all the pencil colours I used for the tulip piece below! I also recently bought a lovely red which is Permanent Red 061 which is more of a classic red than the darker red I used here which I also recommend! I'm always trying to balance a looseness with florals, I often find it's the hardest thing for me to not get too detailed with 😆
      The pencils are: Yellow Ochre 034, Anthraquinoid Carmine 580, Dark Cadmium Orange 533 and the greens were Olive Yellow 015, Chromium Oxide Green 212 and Dark Phthalocyanine Green 719 😄 The mid-tone I think you mention is the Chromium Oxide one!

      @miiaproductions 2 месяца назад

      @KatieMoody That's my problem when trying to paint more loose, I always get a bit too detailed 😅 I always love the way you balance details and looseness 🥰 Thank you so much for the pencil names, they're definitely going on my list for what I'm buying next. I love the colours you recommended to me a whike back, so I really appreciate it 😄🩷
