Well after my observation I lost 90% of a flavus colony once with 40 out of ≈45 workers all had their heads in a big drop of honey. All I’m saying is they where dead and I didn’t want to repeat that no matter how it happened 😅
Um the breath with many holes in their gastor so the dont drown if they keep the rest of their bidy out of the liquid. But yes sometimes ants drown, but mostly if zhey are fully submerged or if they get honey all over their gastor.😊
I'm new to hobby, and thinking about nicos as my first ants, as I don't want a hibernating species, I emailed WaKooshi and they recommended your playlist, so here I am. I won't have a ambient controlled room, as my house just isn't that big, so will have to use a heat the various nests, on the venus set up, how would I heat it, would I just heat one test tube, or all 3 horizontally, so the wire goes across all 3. Thanks.
Hello! Nicos are a brilliant beginner species! You can get a Venus there a heat cable cut out and be removed and that heats all tubes and works perfectly! If you want to heat a Wakooshi’s nest you can by some small feet from wakooshi to lift the nest just a little 😄
my 2 queen nicos, are in the venus nest, and for sure can recommend it... only one downside is, once they get a good amount of workers, feeding can be abit hard, as number of them hang out in the outworld. but you could ptfe the lid before putting anything in, or attach an outworld, I did think about this, however I am just upgrading their nest instead, with a new outworld. nicos can do fine at room temperature, but for best results , heating would be better.
