I think there can only be one boo at a time, but I’m not entirely sure if that’s the case for custom items.

Items are also distanced based from first. That is why sometimes in second you can gets stars

You can't fool us. Lol. You're right at the finish line, have a big lead, and it's too late for literally any items to stop you. You definitely won that race. Also, that lightning dodge was pure luck. Lol.
This is why I stopped playing online lol. No hard feelings to the try hards, winning is winning, but as a casual gamer these strats take a lot of the joy out of the game for me.
I just wanna turn my brain off and if I get blue shelled, so be it. At the end of the day, as long as youre having fun though, play the way you like.

Hi Shortcat, or should I say, Jperm. I am a cuber and mariokart player and very much enjoy both of your masterpieces of channels. Jperm used to be my favorite channel, but now its Shortcat :). I used to watch your videos until you abruptly stopped posting. I was pretty sad. Then I decided to pick up mariokart as a hobby. I discovered this channel and enjoyed it so much. Then, I learned from a Charlie Eggins video that my top two favorite you tubers were the same person. You taught me 2 entire universes of hobbies and can't thank you enough. Shortcat, Jperm, Dylan, whatever you prefer to go bye at any time, you will always be my favorite person on this platform.

It’s only really affected by 5th to 2nd places distance from 1st if I remember correctly

It’s both place position and distance from first.
Yet I’m just playing with the ‘gotta go fast’ mindset 😅

8deluxe has never used a position based item roulette. Your items are based on how far you are from first distance wise, not your placement

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but in Mario Kart 8, item quality is determined by the distance from 1st rather than the placing, no?
It's both actually
The placing gives you a pool of items you have access to, but the distance gives you a higher chance of getting better items from that pool
(3rd place cannot get a bullet no matter how far you are, but 9th can, for example)

The item is not based on your rank, but your effective distance from 1st instead
its both. if youre close to first and in 9-12 you wont get a bullet or shock, probably just mushrooms. but if you're 3rd-5th and far from first its possible to get a star
