    It's amazing to see how the world has changed in my own lifetime. I watched this as a kid, and watching it now its so striking how a lot of Roy's 'jokes' would so not be allowed now. The way he talks to Christene. 😅

      Probably the reason Challenge don't broadcast these early seasons anymore.

    • @ADCTVCollection
      @ADCTVCollection  Год назад +4

      The only reason Challenge TV does not show any of the early episodes made by TVS - Television South is because the TVS archive was bought up after they lost their ITV franchise and between Fox TV & Disney owning the archive, they lost the paper work that was needed for them to be broadcast. So as of this most of the TVS productions won't ever get shown again, there has been talk that as of the lost paper work Disney had all the TVS Production skipped.

    Thank you very much for uploading the TVS version of Catchphrase because I enjoyed it when I was very, very, very, very young. It would be nice If the TVS era of Catchphrase and other TVS programmes are released onto DVD someday because that'll be good although there might be future generations of TVS buffs who would be more than interested in watching TVS programmes like this.

    • @ADCTVCollection
      @ADCTVCollection  3 года назад +1

      You're welcome, it's unlikely that a game show would come out on DVD, but even less chance for a TVS Production due to the lost paper work. There is even talks that most of the TVS programmes were skipped by the current owners.

    I'll also add this was a direct copy of the US version. The only exception is in the US you didn't get any money for answering the toss up you had to answer the Super Catch Phrase (called the bonus here) to win all the banked money in that round.

    • @ajk
      @ajk 2 года назад

      I have to wonder seeing our (US) version before, if it mighta ran longer under this format than the one they used. Between that and the time given to think before guessing the super catch phrase, seemed like it bogged the show down a little bit.

    It's too bad the show wasn't a hit in America, where it was originally created. After seeing how successful it was across the pond, I'm amazed they don't bring it back here in the States, although they DID try in 2006, but it didn't sell. Maybe they can try again someday.
    By the way, does anyone know if the UK series ever mentioned the shows American roots or creators Steve Radosh and Marty Pasetta?

    A sobering point I read yesterday on Facebook...
    Chris Perry, the head of archive TV group Kaleidoscope, confirmed on their Facebook page that the entire TVS archive is now officially listed as "missing" after Disney confirmed it doesn't exist in their archive!!! They have repeatedly answered to several requests that these programmes are listed as "missing", "wiped", "not extant", and this has happened in the past 10 years as those programmes were listed as existing in an inventory made just before Disney inherited the TVS archive. :( ITV Leeds and various other organisations physically hold some TVS material (although of course don't actually own copyright or the rights to broadcast those programmes), but collectively they don't hold all of it, even most of the episodes of Knights of God are now only officially existing as Betamax off-airs! :(
    So the TVS material being uploaded to this channel and elsewhere may well be the *only* surviving copies of those episodes of the programmes being uploaded!

    • @ADCTVCollection
      @ADCTVCollection  6 лет назад +2

      I saw that as well, not good news at all, just have to hope that someone made copies of the show at the time or worked for TVS and did some transfers from the masters. Some TVS stuff does come up on tapes I get from time to time but not that much. Fox/Disney have made a right old mess of the TVS archive.

    Very long shot question. I've been trying to find an episode of Catchphrase and it's proving impossible. The 60 second quiz at the end, there once was an episode featuring a kind of graveyard and a pot of coffee. All I can recall is the person frantically getting the answer wrong saying things like "coffee by the graveside". I remember dying laughing with my family and have been trying to locate it.
