I drive a 2008 Maserati GT.... it shares engine design and production from Ferrari. When Audi bought both Maserati and Ferrari, Ferrari had a better engine production factory. Common engines for both cars were made there for some time. The only difference between Maserati and Ferrari at that time was crankshaft. Maserati used cross plane while Ferrari used flat plane. The engine sound was enough to make me buy a Maserati.

I own this car in the new 2018 version with the new electronics, navigation and stereo system. It is an absolute pleasure to drive, very rare and absolutely the best sounding car on the road. I do love the fact that I can comfortably seat 4 adults as well. I personally believe it’s one of the best GT cars out there, and if you purchase one with some miles on it you can get a great deal and enjoy that Ferrari engine for a fraction of the original price.

Sold my base 4.2 liter GranTurismo. Buying an S with the 4.7 liter motor. Most beautiful car being made today. Best-sounding motor. This car occupies the space that Ferrari used to occupy before "something happened" to their now-in-house car designs. Ferrari was always designed by Pininfarina excepting on the Dino GT's of the 70's which went to Bertone. The Maserati GranTurismo by Pininfarina is the Ferrari grand tourer Ferrari stopped making decades ago,

The mistake every review has been making is to compare this GT car with super sport cars. It's not a sports car either. It's a GT car. A Maserati GT car. Please stop comparing with super cars and just evaluate for what it actually is. Great work on this review. First good review of this car I have seen.

I had one of these for a couple of years, in the same colour combo, and everything Ed has said is spot on. It looks and sounds amazing. It is very big and very heavy so is never going to be the fastest car on the road. But the journey has such a sense of occasion and I have never received so many positive acknowledgements when driving a car as in this. It is not a race car - it's a grand tourer as the name suggests, seating 4x6fts in absolute comfort. It is very expensive to fuel and run but comparatively great value to buy once 18mths + old. Absolutely spot on review...

It was never meant to be a super car but a beautiful and capable GT.

It’ll be a classic in the future.

I bought a used 2009 Maserati GTS Automatic at Oregon Ferrari dealer. Great car for trips to the coast or to take some friends to a sporting event with a useable trunk/Boot. If someone wants one I recommend a certified used as they depreciate very fast. My 8th year/30,000 mile service was $2800 which was all fluids, all filters and belt replacement.

    • @MrBrian4109
      @MrBrian4109 6 лет назад +2

KeezusSole no maintenance issues so far, in 2 years I’ve only put about 7500 miles on it, I put paint protection on hood, front and in front of rear wheels as I think paint might be a bit soft. But it is a big, long, wide, tall and heavy ( about 4350 lbs) I tracked it at Portland international Raceway and found it not that great of a track Car although they do race them. But reaction from people has been great, people seem to love it, kids like riding in back seat. But as value keeps dropping will find it harder to spend so much on maintenance as a% of value. Just had 45,000 mile service on my mazda 6, $54.00 ! But 300 mile trips are enjoyable and I can get over 21 mpg on long trips.

I bought a 2008 GT from Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo in Oregon. Great car. Just have to watch out for people who don't appreciate your car; You have to learn how to deal with haters. This is coming from lots of incidences with my current Maserati and past earlier models I have owned. I take mine to local car shows and it wins trophies and those people appreciate cars. I am a great ambassador for the brand since I owned some of the first Maserati's in my area others have now purchased them (all models.) I usually work on my own cars as the dealer is too far away for issues such as when the car goes into limp mode for an issue. I almost never like a stock car so I go down an upgrade path with aftermarket items from FD (Formula Dynamics) such as Larini exhaust upgrades and drive by wire systems.

The GranTurismo was new at about the same point that the first iPhone was released. The satnav system was also the same midrange system offered in a Citroen C5 of that age so it’s actually a fairly easy system to upgrade.. add one with CarPlay or similar and it’ll give you everything you need.

Someone drove me around the 405 bhp 2009 version of the GT and it was quite fast. Not 911 GT3 fast but hell, certainly very quick. This is a GT car and as a GT it absolutely rules. It looks bloody fabulous as well, much better than all the junk Panameras and Rapides. Maserati has always built a fine road car. It's supposed to be the kind of car you want to drive to Paris.
I'd like to drive this car with a 6 speed manual. Maserati GTs have always been to die for, going back to the 1950s.

  • @SJR_Media_Group

I drive a Maserati GT and love this luxury Italian sports car.
It has back seats and a trunk. It has an engine tone unlike any other on the planet. It accelerates, brakes, and corners with more aggression than most drivers are willing to push. Driver will want to slow down long before car says 'hang on for even more'. When I did a test drive, the engine sound alone sold me on Maserati. I could have bought a Ferrari, but decided Maserati was more 'stealth' and would not attract attention of police. Unlike other GT's this one doesn't stand for 'give ticket'.
Previous owner upgraded wheels to 21 inch and wide and low profile Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Upgraded brakes, suspension, and exhaust as well. It was also lowered and looks even more menacing than stock. It handles as good as it sounds and looks. Mission accomplished.

I havo one Maseeati Granturusmo Sport MC exaust. 4.7. One big difference about versions is the gearbox: mine is F1 gearbox: the ride is rough, drammatic in sport mode. Like a real sportscar. The automatic gear version is smoother and lose a lot of drama and "racing feeling". Gearbox is very important in Maserati Grant. By

It was never intended to be a "supercar" it is a gran tourer (hence Gran Turismo), the name is fitting. Ferrari intentionally kept the Gran Turismo bloated to prevent it from taking sales away from Ferrari. If it was several hundred KG lighter that would be one thing but such is life. I love my 2016 Gran Turismo, the exhaust note is much throatier and deeper than a traditional Ferrari engine/exhaust combo.

I love them and have been consisering buying one for a while, however the 0 to 60 has always been an issue in fact my X6M is quicker.. which is silly really. One plus point is apparently with a decent ecu remap you can bring it down from 4.8 to 60 to 4.2 which is acceptable.. I'm sure with a cat delete and tune you could bring it down to flat 4 seconds.. which I could live with.

Ed, if you were a better driver, you'd be able to take the car up to the limits of its handling. The Ferrari engine loves to rev and the car corners on rails. It breaks away predictably and is easily corrected. It has all the attributes you mentioned, plus, if you're a canny buyer, the 405 HP model can be found with OK miles, FSH, in the right colours for around £20k.
At that sort of price, it's a no brainer :)

If Maserati wants to push a classy bloke narative, as they obviously want to push, a slightly lower acceleration and sportivness is a necessity. I mean, just think for a minute. Maserati GT is that close to a perfect car and everybody with the money would buy one including football players, ghetto gangsters and so on. In that case, classy bloke narative is off.

Like all Maseratis they are over priced under performing out of date cars.
I bought a new one and engine blew at 99k miles. That's why used are so cheap no one wants them due to costs of repairs!

I would much rather have a Ferrari over a Maserati. Maseratis are literally garbage and poor quality. My dad went through 2 of them. Although both brands share similar qualities, Ferrari seems to be better engineered for some reason. My uncle never had any issues out of his 458.

In my country the 458 Italia tops out at 300K, the same year Maserati is 78K, so from my side kid, thats about the dumbest comment I have seen all week, congrats for being a moron
