SO real for the cursive singing, it's a very specific stylistic choice that their vocal trainers seem to REALLY really like for the vocalists in this group, but it didn't feel entirely overpowering here as it did in some of their predebut solo songs from the show to me (it was mainly Pharita and Chiquita to me who did it the most). I don't even particularly dislike the style itself, but it does stand out to me.
I think they really needed to come out with something like this that makes it undeniable that they're talented after batter up where their talents didn't come out as well. I really liked the song (especially for a ballad) and I honestly don't really hear a lot of the cursive singing to the same extent as you. To me it just sounds like they are singing softly and have a slight accent which makes them sound like the way that they do but I don't really hear the "chewing of vocals" as you often hear with cursive singing. The blonde girl at 2:15 probably comes closest to that but other than her I don't hear it and it doesn't distract me as much (I am also not a fan of cursive). Other than that I can only agree with your overall sentiment
I think it was a lot more clear on the show/documentary! I reacted to it on Patreon and I had the same exact complaints for the specific members during their individual evaluations, I think I was hoping it wasn’t going to be as much in the songs but I can hear it clearly still.
@@AchilleanTCP I definitely recommend the show! Despite my complaints of cursive singing lol, every single one of the girls are extremely talented and you’ll love their performances on there! and thank you so much for watching!
The one at 2:15 is Chiquita, 14 years old and improving in all aspects rapidly. She also had the shortest time training (only 3 months before the group's members were announced- some of the others were 4-5 years). A quick learner, charismatic performer and potential superstar in the making.
I love a good ballad. Don’t really mind cursive singing. What I mind is the perfection mentality of KPop. Majority of the groups now seem to not actually sing live. It’s always full lip sync or partial with a backing track. So then when people do sing live they get criticized because it doesn’t sound perfect. It’s so crazy to me. They are singers so when they are on stage they should be SINGING so we can actually hear them not softly singing with the track or lip singing. That’s not directed at baby monster directly… just something I’ve noticed in kpop
The issue I have with this is they’re not just “singers” Kpop idols are actually performers! And dancing is just a big a part of Kpop as anything vocal related. If it was just acoustic ballads they were singing where they could sit and not dance or move and perform I’d say fair enough but in terms of an overall performance I kinda get the need for a backing track. Even some of the best vocalists in the world have performed and sounded off 💀 and personally I prefer watching an overall performance without having to hear offkey singing! As well not all idols are strong vocalist and are moreso trained in dance and don’t actually feel confident enough without a backing track and I’m more than ok with that since that’s what Kpop is about, not everyone is 10/10 singers or dancers but they all make up a good team and put on a great performance. There’s definitely groups out there that sing live but if all groups were to do that I think we’d lose the essence of what makes Kpop so special and groups would end up becoming boring.
@@fifizappareacts good point. I agree that everyone isn’t a vocalist… but they are all idols so they presumably have some strength. Play to that strength. Let the singers sing, let the rappers rap, let the dancers dance. I guess I’m old school. The R&B singer Usher talked about how artists arent being trained anymore. Back in the day they had true artist development with conditioning and stamina training so they could dance across the stage while performing. I remember when Usher was a judge on the Voice, he had his group laying down to sing. Beyonces father used to have her running on a treadmill in heals or something. I guess I’d rather see them try instead of getting comfortable with always having that backtrack because what happens if it one day fails. That would be awful and something I hope never happens as those K Netizens are brutal!
@@that1sha405 As much as I love Kpop and idols, we can’t really compare all of them to the ushers and Beyoncé’s of the world. There are definitely K pop solo artists and a handful of groups who can sing live and have had the vigorous training to do so! 2 quick examples would be EXO and Mamamoo but when we look at how many groups there are now (it is becoming oversaturated slightly) we can’t really expect all groups to be that major level of talent! I agree with you in a sense that it’s amazing when you can get groups who are able to sing live and dance/perform at high levels but I’m also ok with groups maybe sacrificing the the live aspect for a more overall enjoyable performance! As long as they have talent in the studio, I can’t really complain!
I don’t dislike the song, and I think their vocals are really pretty and showcased better than in batter up, but the instrumental was just kinda boring to me and there just wasn’t really enough progress as a song for me if that makes sense. I really enjoyed the predebut song dream, and nothing they’ve put out has surpassed that for me yet, but I’m hoping I’ll like the next title track more and I’m excited to see ahyeon back
From what you’re saying, you like ballads that has more powerful vocals including belting and difficult vocal progressions. Stuck In The Middle is meant to be a vocal ballad that just has you feeling like you’re floating. Just a laid back chill YG ballad that a lot of YG groups do. I love it a lot
@@milkyuuu6170I guess, but there are also a lot of ballads by other yg artists that I like more like from blackpink or big bang for example, I just didn’t like this one as much. I’m not saying I didn’t like it at all though, and I’ll probably like it and appreciate it more with more listens. I also think dream was different because it was more emotional for them as a group too
@@そら-x6j2z Depends which ballads you like from BP and Big Bang you like, if you like You Never Know for example then that’s probably the difference. Wait... cursive singing ? I've never heard about that. I've checked a few videos about it to understand exactly what it means and I'm not sure I'm getting it completely. It seems to be singing in a very mannered way, dropping the jaw, waving a bit... is that right ? I saw a bunch of comments saying Pharita and Chiquita did it the most here, but I personnaly think their singing as a Celine Dion kind of vibe, is it an accent (both of them are thai) or is this the cursive singing ? Is Celine Dion considered a cursive singer ? Am I the only one getting a celine dion vibe from these 2 girls in this song ? So many questions 😂
It’s got nothing to do with their accents … and I don’t know how else to describe it other than a light yodel 💀 a prime example of cursive singing would be Halsey imo .. most of the singers I consider to sing like that don’t sound the same when they speak so it’s definitely a stylistic choice! I feel like singers like Celine Dion and Shakira aren’t exactly cursive singing tho … I can’t explain why, they’re just not 💀 before I knew the term cursive singing I used to call it the “indie white girl voice” 😭
I really don't know what to think about this group. As someone that didn't watch their predebute content, I just don't get what the agency is doing with them. I do like this better than Batter Up, but it still very bland. I've listen to it 4 or 5 times just to get to know this song, and I don't think I'll be listenning to it in the future (and I'm a sucker for balads). For the moment, I think their agency failed to gives them two things: 1) an ear-catching song that could attract people like me that didn't follow all their predebute stuff and 2) a group idendity/colour, that'll make people say "THIS is BabyMonster". Apparently, they have talented members. Now they really need to make the best out of it. Also it's interesting your comment about cursive singing that might be a YG thing. Made me think about singing training in the industry, groups of a same agency sharing the same trainers, etc. And that's totally not a thing limited to YG. It's true that the training system in kpop can limit the diversity of talents in each group. We often see some specific techniques (not only for vocals but also rap and dance) for each companies. Another very well-known example is how rappers in Cube have a similar tone and technique. There's also some training systems that are very criticized, like Hybe's vocal training system, etc. It's a bit of a double-edged blade. It can be both a good and bad thing. (sorry for my English, not sure if all I wrote was clear.)
Their voices were beautiful, but the instrumental was to bland honestly; I thought the beat that appeared in the rap verse was going to continue for the rest of the song, and it didn't so, to bland. But their voices are beautiful
I don’t hear the cursive singing but maybe that’s just me or it’s just not as prevalent here? Now their performances during the show? I could not stand Rora and Chiquita’s cursive singing there lol
You’re not the first person to say they don’t hear it much in this! I think I’ve been complaining about it since the show/doc so whenever I react to something new they put out actively looking for it 😭 it’s definitely there tho
