Seing the mortal enemy hate relationship between the japanese army and navy, the IJN probably also counted the hits on the army transport as valid targets.
There was also the instance of when the Navy treated an Army officer to an enlisted meal and the Army officer ended up thanking the Navy profusely for such quality food.
@@christophercao7027 That would be true in most armed forces I suspect. At least for combat officers. The high brass sitting behind desks will have decent food, but the Navy will probably still have better food in war time than even the Army HQ. The days when officers dined on lobster, caviar and champagne is over.
IJN officer: "If we fire our torpedoes at the enemy, we may hit army transports." IJN Captain: "Fire carelessly, whatever we hit, we win."
Knowing about the brutal rivalry between the IJN and IJA makes this even more hilarious
Considering the state of the relations between the IJN and IJA, thats not exactly a far from reality.
Reminds me of the most succesfull torpedo salvo ever lauched by the Mogami cruiser.
If I remember 5 out of the 6 torpedo connected on Japanese trasport ships.
Yeah at the beginning of the Pacific war, there were a few Blue on Blue incidents on both sides. Savo Island was where the Allies decided to shoot themselves up. Then throughout the war you had target locked AA gunners following their targets with such tunnel vision that they'd shoot up other nearby Allied ships as the Japanese planes flew low between ships. You also had Allied AA gunners shooting at their own planes when they'd try to make attempts to land on carriers. And finally... you had the incident where a poor Japanese pilot got confused and tried to land on a USN carrier and paid the price.
@@swordmonkey6635 And then there is the story of the B-17 squadron that flew in from the States shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl.
I am the former Commander of the US Naval Order in Texas. I had the privilege to meet Jim Hornfisher, but also be in charge of the annual recognition of the USS Houston and HMAS Perth. I got to meet several of the survivors over the years, till they all passed. Great honor.
hello i am glad to see a decorated commander watching jingles
I have to admit, this battle was great enough to watch twice.
Me returning to confirm that you have featured this video twice now xD "Boldly Going" & "Ship of Ghosts".... hmmmmm. seems kind of sus xD
"What?! A overnight shift in the salt mines?! Oh darn... okay...."
Best Regards,
FLT
Yeah. I got a Jean Bart Deja Vue feeling here too... Thought it also was a 'Flambass' drive by video...
Also amusingly, after general Imamura made it to shore, after his transoprt ship was sunk, he was congratulated for a successful invasion by his subordinates, since that was a thing to do when a commanding general get's to the shore for the first time.
Here after BOLDLY GOING!
A quick one Jingles. The Battle of Sunda Strait was fought by HMAS Perth and USS Houston. HNLMS Evertsen was a couple of hours behind due to being delayed. She saw the battle unfolding and tried to evade before running into a couple of Japanese destroyers who were searching for any retreating allied ships and she eventually ran aground with her stern on fire, which in turn caused a magazine to blow. The crews of HMAS Perth and HMAS Houston were plucked from the sea and taken into captivity while the crew from HNLMS Evertsen were captured ashore, the crew having abandoned the ship before she blew.
Also worth noting that, after the battle, the Houston and Perth survivors were repeatedly questioned about the name of the battleship that the Japanese were CERTAIN had been with them.
Well done to him for over 2 million credits! That's as much as I make in a month, lol
Same here, I am happy if I make a profit with my tech tier ship on a non-premium account without any flag :(
Takes 3-5 games of the new Big Hunt mode and you can easily make that much lol
@@theShermanator what's the BP to credits conversion?

Yuugumo knew it lost, but at least it did go out fighting. I can respect that.
I agree it put up a good show.
Some days you just can't can't catch a break. This was a classic example with DoubleTab busting his torp launchers just as he's about to fire.
@@robertschumacher2707 A "just a flesh wound" torpedo kill would not have won the game, but it would have been an epic ending.
Hay Jingles, you should also have added that the wrecks of those 3 allied ships were illigally salvaged in Indonesian waters since 2015. The remains of the deceased still on board being dumped at the local landfill.
Good work from that Yugamo... the enemy destroyer. He did all that he reasonably could.
That cap reset is the funniest thing ive seen this week.
The Battle of the Java Sea documentary by Niek Koppen is a good watch as well with interviews of survivors of all sides during the engagements. Notable ships whose crew were interviewed include Exeter, Encounter, Perth, Java, De Ruyter, Houston, Kortenaer, Witte de With, Paul Jones, Haguro, Nachi, Asagumo (who sank Electra)
I'm wondering if the ships that launched those Long Lance torpedoes turned pink after they hit freindlies.
How could they not have?
Uhhh... no, Mogami stayed red.
It was Imperial Japanese *Army* transports that got hit. They Imperial Japanese Navy wouldn't have really considered those to be "friendlies" anyway.
Report pls

I’m always happy when Jingles finds a sponsor that he actually likes
This was such a good replay, I hope you feature it to us again some time Jingles!
Jingles: *fangirls over being friends with James D Hornfischer. Again*
Me: Nice to know famous people can still be starstruck too.
I decided to take the plunge and download Audible because of Rear Admiral Jingles. For my first Audible author, it was Mr. James D. Hornfischer. His book, Neptune's Inferno. That was a week I refused to sleep.
Edit: Yay, your voice is now at it's old volume.
I had a grad school classmate on their third career who could still feel the pain of dealing with Rickover's organization...he was part of the USN that supplied Rickover with hulls for his reactors.
Hey Jingles, do you think we could get some more storytime focused videos? I love hearing you talk about these military stories.
my great uncle served on the HMAS Perth and was taken POW by the Japanese :'( Battle of the Sunda straight was a proper showing of Australian prowess
Hey jingles, thanks for introducing the book “Ship of Ghosts” my great grandfather served on the Houston during the battle. And I always wanted to learn more about what happened to her at the battle.
It's nice to see a battleship player switching to HE when the only targets remaining are destroyers.
Jean Bart's HE is quite good, not that difficult to get 8-10k HE volley, possibly a fire. also the reload of the ship makes it nice to switch. Also I have found that due to its speed its not bad at dodging DD's torps as battleships go as it is fairly fast, combined with ruder changing course about every 8-15 seconds, not hard to dodge torps.
Yes I am a major fan of the Jean Bart, Great Battleship.
Ah, Jean Bart. It has three operating mode settings: "Fun", "More Fun", and "Even More Fun!" :) Amazing ship, so glad i got it while it lasted.
I should have bit the bullet and bought it.
The replay so nice he showed us twice. Never change, old man
such a great video i wish i could watch it again
Jingles: hold my beer.
Interesting note about the Houston, my great uncle was on board as an engineering chief and had barely missed Pearl Harbor. He was lost with the ship when it went down at Sunda Strait.
I picked up the book on Audible! Thanks, Jingles!
I've read it before and can highly recommend it. You'll enjoy it!
I've listened to the audiobook version of that it's very interesting but understandably not as "naval-focused" as the author's other works, and the naval action itself lasts probably 10% of the total length. Nevertheless enjoyed it.
Damn man, surprised to see you here! PS: Keep up the amazing work on the SA’F videos!
@@grassulus158 Oh yeah! Love Jingle's work. He's got great commentary and always a good laugh. :-D
Judging by the thumbnail and title i thought this was gonna be a Indianapolis video, but oh well.
When you are outnumbered by the IJN you have to be creative, just read the story on the Dutch minesweeper HNLMS Abraham Crijnssen. Classic case of it's so stupid it just might work and it did.
This is the earliest I’ve ever been, I’m drunk as shit and its 3:31 AM West By God time. Lets boogie.

Always love the little history lessons during the videos! Makes your channel stand out from all the others.
Probably the best Audible plug I've heard on all of RUclips. Nicely done Jingles!
am i the only person that likes to listen to jingles while they are faking asleep he’s really good at narrating the battle so it’s like you don’t even need to watch it
Jingles, I would HIGHLY recommend reading "The Last Battlestation". Its the true story about the U.S.S. Houston. This is by far my favorite ship of all WW2. I have read everything I could find on the ship. Such an incredible story. Let me know if you have read this!
Please do not take this comment as a disrespect but I find your voice to be very calming that I put your videos just so I can fall sleep, I do not even play this game but I love the quite detail information that you give. Thank you and I wish you would get more sub.
A genuine comment. Quite rare.

Loved the video Jingles! Favorite part was that lucky blind shot on the Yūgumo in the cap circle!
UwU little does jingles now, he's gonna feature this again late January
The whole story of ABDACOM is rather gut wrenching story and is absolutely riveting as is the somewhat forgotten story of wake island and many other battles early in the war in the pacific
Nice one Centurion
I'm not english ,and I'd really love to listen to a book with our Mighty Jingles reading it :)
I'm from the USA and normally have trouble understanding Englishmen but have no trouble with Jingles' English accent. But then, I remember my daughter telling me I spoke with at least three different USA accents. We lived in Virginia at the time having moved there from New England. She said she remembered me speaking with a New England accent but now had a Virginia accent except when talking on the phone with my mom when I spoke in a Texas accent.
Just finished "Ship of Ghosts" and "Neptunes Inferno". Very good reads, can't recommend the high enough. Now I need to get "The Last Stand of the Tin Sailors" Hornfischer is a very good writer.
Brave ships. I've got HMAS Perth and HMS Exeter.
I go to Nuke School in the US Navy and our schoolhouse is called the Rickover Building. Very cool for you to reference that!
The irony of Jingles constantly claiming that World if Warships is a completely skill based game then laughing and tapering like a maniac at the blind shot getting a defender ribbon is strong!
I still remember the first time Jingles got a paid promotion...
Everyone was so happy and was making jokes about it in the comments
Rickover was such an evangelist for the nuclear navy that he destroyed the careers of anyone who stood in the way.
When I saw the title of the video I though @The Mighty Jingles would be talking about the battle on Friday, November 13th, 1942 off the coast of Guadalcanal
Jingles, while I cant enjoy audio books, you have put me onto a great writer in JD Hornfischer, I have acquired 3 of his books so far, Last stand of the Tin Can Sailors, Neptunes Inferno, and I just ordered a hard cover copy of Fleet at Floodtide. Ive been playing WoWs since beta and ive been watching your videos for years now, and im very very thoroughly enjoying the books. Keep up the amazing work, and happy sailing.
@Jingles. a long time ago you mentioned this book which I purchased. It is a captivating book and VEry sad. Shows the savagery of the IJN and the prison camps.
Good read.
And remember, it was *much worse* to be a captive of the IJA than of the IJN. Let that sink in.
Well played and fun to watch. The capper is Jingles comments!
Your Dutch pronunciation of Karel Doorman isn't bad Jingles. Very well done
2:50 is no one going to talk about how huge brain this is
its a pretty common way to see over islands. Yeah, it is pretty big brain, but because it's common nobody mentions it
Rickover took lessons from Ernest J King & ruled over not only the Atomic Reactor Department with an Iron Fist, but pretty much the entire Navy during those 30 years.
Wasn't he one of those horrible teetotalers as well
@@muzzmac160 I honestly think that they both were really. That was when the Enlisted & Junior Officers were encouraged to booze & whore to their heart's content, but the "Upper Management" didn't allow anybody in unless they were pretty Puritan.

whats this thing called a sleep schedule i keep hearing about?
It's a thing that all the new salt mine workers go on about. All the veterans down here know that it is irrelevant and unacceptable as it decreases salt production significantly, and therefore brings the wrath of the Supreme Gnome Overlord down upon us
Well actually jingles, because WG is Pepega, you either have to choose between getting dumpstered on by Richthofen ap rockets or the entire enemy team. And it can’t be blamed on you.

Why Confused, this is Jingles you should know better

Jean Bart and Richelieu don't actually have terrible secondaries, you know. They basically have a light cruiser bolted to their rear in the form of 3 triple 6" turrets, and the small guns will still make short work of lightly-armored targets like destroyers. Range, accuracy, and rate of fire are pretty solid too. They're best viewed as a deterrent against DDs and CLs rather than a BB brawling tool like German secondaries are.
The small guns will make short work of almost nothing.
They're 100 mm, so without IFHE they will only pen 16 mm, which is the plating of T7 destroyers. Higher tier DDs, as well as ships of any other class, are immune to them, save for the fires.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL....

My great uncle survived the sinking of the Houston and pow camps. Mentioned in the book, Fred Quick.
...and an almost dead to complete victory come back.
Nice game!
My grandmothers brother Melvin served aboard the USS Houston and fought in the battle of Sunda Straight. He survived the battle but died in captivity.
"A student of Naval history with a sense of humor" or probably a US navy nuke that drinks away the problems Rickover gifted us all by founding that damn program
For Hitoshi Imamura, the guy who had to abandon his transport after it got torpedoed by IJN long lance... those torpedoes were not from his own ships.
Hitoshi Imamura was an IJA officer after all, and that transport convoy he was in was an IJA convoy, ie: Imperial Army convoy... not the IJN, ie: the Imperial Navy's.
As far as both Imperial Army and Imperial Navy are concerned... both of them ARE enemies of one another who just happened to be under the same emperor.
The Imperial Navy officers... aren't going to shed a tear if some of their long lance happens to 'ACCIDENTALLY' hit some of the Imperial's Army's assets including their transport ships...
As far as they are concerned, it's the Imperial Army's fault to be where their long lance were heading.
IJN: IJA ships failed their torpedobeats. just more proof of their inferiority ;-P
*IJN rules, IJA drools!*
A difference between Richilieu and Jean Bart is that the Richilieu has much better firing angles on the rear 152mm secondary gunturrets. On Richilieu they can fire past the superstructure at an angle, firing at targets infront of you with a bit of angling. On Jean Bart these turrets go only a little bit past sideways, so they tend to open up only when something is on your rear quarter.
Oh, and it's 12x100mm, not 90. So you can either roll for a 5% chance of fire 12 times every 2 seconds, or you can IFHE it and roll for 2.5% fire chance and 2520 damage per minute against DDs and superstructure. (152mm shells not counted)
The selling point of the secondaries: When kitted for it.. they just don't stop firing. It's awesome. Too bad IFHE now significantly nerfs main battery fire chance too. :/
Hats off to fletcher for following orders and the allied soyruz
The way jingles says Casa Blanca is excruciating
Speaking of the battle of the Java sea, check out the story of the Dutch minesweeper that actually escaped the Japanese, by disguising itself as an island. Simple History did a video on it

Hmm, I'll call myself Huge Balsey
I love JB, it is a great combination of speed, armor, decent firepower and powerful AA. The secondaries are OK, once you turn your ass on somebody, angle it and let your secondaries do the work, they often stand no chance. You can focus on someone else with your main battery. I really dont regret choosing this over Musashi, lol :D
Armor? o_O
I mean, yes, she has a turtleback, but she's also covered in 32mm plating: she's easily melted by HE spammers. Also, her hitpoints are low.
She doesn't have to show broadside to use all of her guns, which is a sort of tactical armor, but she's one of the most fragile battleships at her tier.

"As they would be spending the next 3 1/2 years as POWs of the Imperial Japanese Army."
IJA prison commandant: "So, this is the next batch of Western POWs? How dishonorable, allowing themselves to be captured. What branch did you say they were from, again?"
IJA POW guard: "Uh, they're all from their navies."
Commandant, as his vision goes red: "Did you say...NAVY!?"
Without the reload boost and the non-standard placement of the JB’s gun turrets, double tab would have been sunk at the end.
Also, the Yugomo player forfeited his biggest advantages in favor of a last-second open water YOLO against a JB that had guessed his relative position because of all the errant torpedo salvos.
That last engagement was lost by the destroyer driver more than it was won by double tab.
For some reason, even after thousands of games I still often mess up my torpedo yolos on battleships. Usually by showing broadside too early and eating a ton of damage before I can put fishes in the water.
Just thought I’d come back to compare the different commentaries, in 2 months the only thing that has changed is the sponsor
Wait, the BB captain realized to swap to HE when the targets were Destroyers? What is he, a mensa member?
