- In the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Sarasota is faced with the challenge of unprecedented recovery and rebuilding. Like many coastal places across Florida, the United States, and globally, the community's infrastructure, rapidly evolving urban core, and continually sprawling suburbs were designed for a climate and sea levels that no longer exist. As part of current efforts to restore Sarasota's much-admired sense of place and quality of life, Architecture Sarasota hopes to be a leader in sharing resources, providing assistance, and engaging thought partners in ensuring a more sustainable and resilient future.
With the theme of "Adaptation By Design," the 2024 Sarasota MOD Weekend symposium brings together leading experts to explore innovative strategies for adapting existing neighborhoods and structures and planning new buildings and developments that are more environmentally responsive. Speakers will examine adaptation at three scales: urban and suburban areas, individual structures and ensembles, and materials and building systems. Information focuses on design and technical approaches while addressing policy and presenting public and private sector considerations.
