I grew up eating my matpakke in the classroom, it was fine, I remember our teacher reading out loud while we ate and we all picked the book... but I do wish the Norwegian government would step up and maybe serve lunches at school, so everyone gets the same...

And if he can feel the weight to know that there was something in the box... couldn't he feel that it was empty before he opened it? Also, is this the first day that the kids did this? How did they know it was empty? Why would they go through his box to find out it was empty... he left for a drink of water. I also feel that it wasn't right that they cut the shot the second the little girl in the the plaid shirt landed her water bottle flip.
I think it's even worse that an orphanage sent him to school with an empty lunch box. Wouldn't ie be better if they just said, "sorry Eirik, we don't have any fiskesuppe for you today". One would think they would be more sympathetic to his struggle.

okay...I'm going to come out and say Norway has about 200 layers of social support. A kid with no parents living in an orphanage probably has a private chef and chauffeur. Seriously, Norway is rich as balls and take care of their own.
Oh my god, he's not poor, he's a foster kid. It's meant to demonstrate that kids need safe and caring homes. The goal is to make more families take in children so they don't have to travel across the country. "Literally, the solution is often closer than you think" because they want the solution for these kids to be close.
I don't know if the actor is, but the character is yeah. Though he's in a good foster home, and that's what they want for all the foster kids. He might also come from a house of neglect and abuse. His parents may very well be alive but not everyone's capable of taking care of a child so therefore he's placed in a better home
