The Originals (TO) is less chill than TVD and a bit darker as it doesn't have that 'teen drama' element and there isn't as much focus on romance etc but I think that also makes TVD easier to get into and more addicting? (That's just my personal opinion tho & I know some ppl take longer to get through TO as the drama is heavier) It's a great TV show but I don't know what kind of shows u usually like tho if you've enjoyed the tributes you've seen so far then you'll probably love it. I can't wait for you to meet these characters eventually!
In my opinion I love the originals a whole lot more then the vampire diaries. The humour, the blood, the gore and the characters are so much better. The vampire diaries kinda annoyed me after a while. Especially self centred Elena. I’m so glad we got season 7 and part of season 8 without her. The spin off from the originals, Legacies is good as well. I only watched it because of Hope. You should check it out. If I can suggest a video. It would be hope attacks super squad. It’s season 4 episode 6 I think. You can find the clip on RUclips tho. She’s a full tribrid by then so you can see what she can do.
ive watched the vampire diaries, the originals, and the legacies(the second spinoff of the vampire diaries) and i can say, the vampire diaries is really good, a few of the seasons are a little weird, but its still good. the originals is great, but a little slow except for the huge time gap. but like i said, great, and its my favorite. and the legacies well lets just say.. its a show, i think the first season is good and the second season is fine couldve have been better. the rest of the show eh.
I know tons of people will disagree with me about this. Just watch the Originals. There will be a few minor spoilers for The Vampire Diaries. However if you watch Vampire Diaries first there will be spoilers for, The Originals. I personally stopped watching Vampire Diaries after The originals aired. I cant stand The Vampire Diaries after season 4. The Originals is 10x better of a show. This is my opinion anyway.

The Originals focuses more on darker sides of the vampire, werewolf and witch history than the romance revolved TVD.
