You'll see this reflected in the King and his desire for his children to get more familiar with Western culture. This will play a pretty big role in the show and it creates a interesting dynamic between Anil and Pin. Like you, I'm really interested in the historical and cultural references we're gonna get out of this show. So excited. :)

Well yes, there is a reversal of roles. That's why FreenBecky is a really unique ship. They don't stick to any particular role which is rare in the GL industry. Not only that, it's even rare in the BL industry. I think part of the reason is that Becky was super young when she first entered the GL industry. So it's natural that those under 20 would be cast as "bottom" characters. However, Becky started to break boundaries of that idea through her actions by boldly calling Freen "Nong" some day, even jokingly tweeted "BeckFreen", slowly being more comfortable with her masculine side (she's not that feminine), being open to diverse styles making her more androgynous etc. I think these factors might result in the appeal for "BeckFreen." I guess that's why they chose the roles of Anil for Becky. Anil is exactly like Becky with few differences, and Becky herself said that she's exactly like Anil when she's in love. Anil is at the top of royal highness. She's much closer to the throne. Her grandfather was a distant cousin of Pin's great grandfather. So they are very very distant relatives. But Anil's dad's adopted sister is the biological aunt of Pin. She adopted Pin cause she lost her parents. Pin is definitely from the royal family but at the lowest level of royalty. She's merely "Lady" and Anil is the "Princess." I know it's complicated 😅 This is set in 1957 when Thailand was in its early stage of modernization. Yes, Pin and Anil are both expected to get married but the pressure isn't high within Anil cause no one is suitable for her in terms of royal titles and also she's the youngest sibling. She's also her dad's favorite child so he is somewhat lenient with her. Pin's aunt is more traditional. Anil is a year younger than Pin.

However, hairpins are Multicultral and are passed down throughout the generations of women….to other women. I’m Eurasian and have hairpins from my ancestors. They are timeless adorations for women and represent our strength & beauty and also symbolize just how such a delicate looking thing is strong enough to hold everything together seemingly effortlessly and beautifully. Once the hairpin is removed from the hair, it all falls apart~ My Family has always been centered around a matriarch and once they die….the family drifts apart.
The book is amazing, Anin and Pin story is so beautiful, and based on the first episodes they'll make an excellent job adapting this. I do think they will make it a little more dramatic than the books. You should watch the other videos too, I think there's a pilot and two teasers. They have a little bit more information on the plot.

Let me help you a bit, I have read the novel so according to the novel the time period is 1950 Thailand and from that time the story happens. And yes Anil, Becky's character, is from the royal family, she is actually a princess. She has 2 brothers and Lady Pin, Freen's character is a close acquaintance of the royal family, was raised around the palace and they have a close friendship. I don't tell you more not to spoil too much.
The golden hairpin was the one that Princess Anin to Lady Pin as symbol of love. (It was shown on the pilot trailer) Anin and Pin were childhood friends and developed a very deep connection, and next thing we knew, Pin is set to marry Khun Kuea.. He is infatuated with her but she disliked him.

Pin is a Lady (as in Lady in Waiting (waiting to be married)), Anil is a Princess. Ladies in Waiting tend princesses or queens. Lady Pin has definitely been 'tending' the Princess. lol They are both royalty, but a Lady is much lower than a Princess, though it is possible for a Lady in Waiting to become a queen depend on who she ends up marrying. Until the very modern British royalty, there has never been a choice of who you get married to because the whole point of having royalty is to build power based on marriage which is entirely the prerogative of the sitting monarch. The fact that she is a favorite daughter would not help her in the slightest. Though, as a rule, they don't really care who you are sleeping with if they can't get you pregnant because everything is based on bloodlines. The function of a pin is to hold up your hair, the symbolism of those pins is the family who owns it. I am glad they are playing this story for real and not pulling punches like you might find in some GLs. If people end up unalive, then it will be something close to reality.

You obviously would want your heirs and not someone else's to take over. The only way to make that work is if it's not the person who was ordained by god but the bloodline.
