Never push material into water. It just makes mud. The mud will be displaced the first time it is driven over. Riding around with the front wheels off the ground is the best way to spot an inexperienced operator. Keep all 4 wheels on the ground. That is why it has 4 wheels.
Sorry man, but I push gravel into water filled holes in my driveway all the time. And I often back-drag using the edge of my bucket, with the front wheels off the ground to add weight on the cutting edge. Been working great for me, for years.
