neo-advaita: refers to the contemporary movement of teachers, almost exclusively those outside of Bhārata, who teach what (superficially) appears to be the philosophical world-view of advaita Vedānta as expounded in the Veda, particularly the major Upanishads.
The three main distinctions between traditional (especially Indian) gurus of advaita Vedānta and neo-advaita teachers are as follows:
      1. Neo-advaita teachers invariably do not belong to an ancient lineage of spiritual preceptors. They usually were either students of other neo-advaita teachers or else they experienced at least one dramatic awakening experience, which inspired them to assume the role of a teacher. Read Chapter 20 of “A Final Instruction Sheet for Humanity” to learn what are the characteristics of a TRUE guru.
Therefore, there is a gross ignorance of the wealth of knowledge and wisdom accumulated over the past several thousand years.
      2. Their teachings are focused on encouraging their followers (one cannot use the term “disciples”, since there is very little discipline being dispensed) to wake-up to the same non-dual reality that they have experienced, with practically no dharma being transmitted. That is to say, they either provide their deluded flock with extremely liberal moral precepts, or else ethics is altogether overlooked. This fact alone proves beyond any doubt whatsoever that neo-advaita teachers cannot be classified as members of the Priesthood - that class of society that has been entrusted to teach humanity the essential principles of life, especially the moral law (“dharma”).
Which is more beneficial to society? A so-called “teacher” who spends five decades trying to wake-up his followers, and only a few of them experiencing some kind of spiritual awakening, or an (actual) master who spends the same length of time BOTH encouraging his disciples to wake-up to reality, as well as teaching proper dharma (the moral law, and the various rules and duties pertaining to society)? Thus, even if the student fails to awaken during the course of those fifty years, at least he or she will have a good grasp of dharma. Hopefully, he/she will have understood the distinction between moral and immoral behaviour from both a meta-ethical and a normative standpoint, that it is not his or her role to judge any of his/her superiors, that only a true king has the authority to rule a nation, and that it is valuable for him or her to impart the beneficent precepts he or she has learnt, to his/her own subordinates.
      3. Neo-advaita teachers usually charge a set fee for their teachings, whereas ACTUAL spiritual masters subsist entirely Providentially. Being paid a regular sum of money in exchange for goods and/or services is a characteristic of the lowest class of male society (i.e. workers). An actual member of the Holy priesthood (“guru”) depends solely on God (or, to be more accurate, Divine Providence) for his sustenance, for as Lord Jesus the Christ once instructed His own disciples, “Freely you have been given - freely you should give”.
Again, read Chapter 20 of this “Final Instruction Sheet for Humanity” to learn what are the prerequisites of an ACTUAL brāhmaṇa.

N.B. It is important to not misunderstand my above criticisms as being a total dismissal of neo-Advaita teachers and their teachings. Personally, I have learnt much from such teachers, particularly those whom I have quoted in various chapters of this Holy Book, but NEVER should such teachers be confused with genuine spiritual masters, as defined in the twentieth chapter of this Sacred Scripture.
It is important to note that, despite such characters being referred to as “neo-advaita”, they are, in fact, virtually all Idealists, rather than Monists. The Sanskrit word, “advaita”, means “non-dual”, or even more literally, “not two”, and is a Monistic metaphysic.
One sure-fire method for recognizing a so-called “neo-advaitan”, is that he or she uses the terms “Consciousness” and “Awareness” as synonyms for “Absolute Reality” (“brahman”, in Sanskrit). For example, just today, I watched a videographed lecture by a well-
known Indian “guru” (to whom I affectionately refer as “Svāmī Chandālānanda”, since he is a dog-eating, animal-abusing scumbag) in which he used the word “Consciousness” no less than thirteen times in a space of one minute! Sometimes, when I am parodying these neo-advaitan fools, I simply repeat the word “Consciousness” over and over again, like a scratched vinyl phonograph record!

Beautiful. :) I realised that I first came across Tony's message in 2001, when I bought his book "As it is" (not a very popular edition, I think. Q&A format from his talks). It struck me at the time, and then sort of lay dormant until the Nonduality Conference in 2020 during the pandemic, when it dawned on me that Tony Parsons was actually "that" Tony Parsons from ages ago. :) But, it's all just a story, like anything and everything. Love this interview, Frank. :)

I know that video well. Wasn’t there but when I think of it now… going to a science and nonduality…so much knowledge…and then ‘Tony’ stands up..so raw really and open. Really if it’s heard this communication without being difficult cos there is nothing to hear then all other communications just pop away into knowledge. It’s total vulnerability and innocence but an innocence about what is innocence.

Non-Duality is an experience and you can tell Tony's having it. From that experience comes possibilities. Spiritual possibilities.
I'm really starting to see maturity or development in the spiritual realm.
In the future, eventually we'll look back on Non duality and laugh 😂. It only the beginning. Being starts first. Becoming comes when this soul sees inherent virtues. 🙏❤ It's called becoming responsible and if you don't like that, start with the accountability.
I always worry about how these "non dual people" raise their kids 😢😮🤨😂🤔🫢

In a sense, you are correct. There is no duality and no non-duality because they are both part of the same story. They all raise their children the same way as everyone else does within the apparent story.

    • @Tasmanaut
      @Tasmanaut 8 дней назад

I mean, sure, but at least he's very honest about it. He isn't even trying to present a teaching. That's the beauty of it, right? He's just getting straight to the point, that no one can get, and yet people appear to pay some money to hear it. Buddhism prescribes a path and a teaching, and so 99.99% of people are never liberated by it. However, it does provide a moral compass and some conduct that might appear to be more 'wholesome', right, we can agree on that, but ultimate it doesn't matter. There is no value to any of it :) Perhaps it was that the buddha, apparently, both 'got it' and taught a path that was simply a 'white lie' or what they call skilful means, out of compassion, to ease a little suffering in the world.
But really, that's not getting it is it? Suffering implies that there is something that needs to be done.
I believe the Lotus Sutra and the tathagatagarbha sutra point to this, it's just very flowery and nice, it appears there is a resonance there that is very powerful. This message presented by Tony and some others is that, just with all the pretty words stripped away. It's cutting directly to the point, so in that sense it is more like Zen, but without the need for any meditation or any process at all, which is really what Zen is about, but again, that recognition isn't there in 99% of Zen practitioners. There is nothing to practice, no path, no goal, and no body that experiences it as this appearing as 'enlightenment'.
It's literally impossible, right, and yet, that recognition can arise.
      It's a miracle, HAHA!
