The use of the f-slur was 100% justified in context imo. But I can understand not playing the uncensored cut in the radio since it would be jarring to hear it while shopping, at a restaurant, etc

It’s amazing how many songs got away with swears until like ten years ago on the radio…Guns and Roses “Mr Brownstone” and Pink Floyd’s “Money” are two songs that weren’t edited for radio play until recently to go along with radio stations playing the full version of “Money For Nothing” which uses the word three times instead of just the one swear each for the other two. Also what’s up with radio censoring “God” instead of “damn” when an artist says “god damn?” Hahaha

I didn't know about Tony de Peltrie and it's funny because it's so much more advanced and mindblowing if you know the least bit about early computer graphics but Money for Nothing is much more colorful, vibrant and the stylization of the characters has aged so much better. It has that early Virtua Fighter low poly charm to it, I always loved it even tho I was born a decade later.
It's so fascinating that it was such an important piece of work that it both revolutionized visual media and killed the band. Loved the whole 50 minutes of it, gold material.

The title of the album was Brothers in Arms which I feel is the best song Knopler ever wrote. I,ve never heard it played on the radio in the States. In Europe the song Brothers in Arms was played over the radio a lot more often than the other songs on the album. The song won a Grammy for best music video.

That’s my favorite Dire Straits song and classic rock stations in the USA could really stand to take “Walk of Life” outta their rotations a bit and replace it with “Brothers in Arms!” Incredible lead guitar work > Cheesy 80s synth riff

I quite liked the video! Seems like a lot of research went into it, which I appreciate.
I can't help but think it's a bit inaccurate to say that the song and video is critical of MTV. As you point out elsewhere in the video, the song is satirizing people who are talking shit about musicians on MTV. Knopfler might not have been a big fan of music videos, but to me, the message of the song is not that MTV is bad, but that people who think making music is getting "money for nothing" are ignorant.

what I love about the music Video, is that it was the first CGI production from a little studio in Vancouver, BC, Canada called "Mainframe Entertainment"
They would later create 3 amazing CGI Cartoons "Beast Wars: Transformers", "Shadow Raiders" and my Childhood favourite "Reboot"
these two characters would make an appearance in Season 1 Episode 11, "Talent Night" when they are shown trying to Qualify for Enzo's Birthday Party.
{Edit} HEY, you mentioned all of it closer towards the end of the video! nice!! I'm subscribed now.. you definately did your homework extensively. 🤘🤘

39:25 We Built This City is one of the most hated songs of the decade? What????? Since when? I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions. But there is a reason that the song got second in that top 100 list. Now I don't really recall the video all that much, but the song itself was very popular and it's a classic. Now just like every really good song, it gets seriously overplayed, which often results in it getting a lower opinion, just because people get sick of it. But you just have to look at how it did at the start and how has it stood the test of time. And that song did well, and people still love it today.

Considering the line "yeah buddy, that's his own hair" I would assume someone with big hair. The entire point is that at the time, there were lots of male singers with earrings, makeup and big hair. And lot of working men were assuming any of those made you gay. It's the equivalent of "all those boybands are gay". Assuming there ever was a specific person is already missing the point.
