You told in video "it's good for everyone to share to information", so I would like to ask you/confirm few things: 1. Which "other" adapters you have checked? Can you name a few adapters cheaper than 70 USD that don't work? (Those other from "2 weeks" of testing) 2. Have you been able to record all audio channels from RM16ai thru TBT3 on your Dell XPS? 3. Did you tried Apple TbT3 to TBT2 adapter? On other users videos apple adapters seams working. 3. Are you somehow related to H&B or StarTech? From my testing of RM32AI on Lenovo X1 G5 it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't when using both Apple adapters and StarTech doesn't work at all. I dont know why.
This video is almost 4 years ago, and I no longer use this combination, but I remember trying adapters from Amazon. Throughput on all 16 channels worked fine. Firmware for RM16 has been updated many times since this video, as well as Windows updates, so there may be many more options. Thank you for commenting.
Hi J Tendy. Thanks for the great video, I didn't know what to do with my M-Audio profire 610 and Dell XPS15, 9570 now that I watched your video I will get those converters and try them on my Audio Interface. My Audio interface has only 2 FireWire 6-pins ports, would the 6-pins FireWire will work on the converters you showed on your video? My laptop was bought last year July 2018 by the way. Thanks in advance and looking forward hearing from you.
Great computer. There are so many versions, you'd have to check with the manufacturer. It has 2 USB-C ports and supports Thunderbolt, so there's a good chance it supports FW800. Is it a 2017?
Oops! I misread your question! I thought you asked about compatibility. There is NO loss of quality with a FireWire 800-to-Thunderbolt adapter. I used the RM in my studio with a 2015 iMac 27". Worked fine. The TB adapter worked fine. I'll delete the other answer.
Yes, still using the Dell XPS 15 9550 for my mobile rig. No problems here. Studio computer is an iMac, but that will be replaced by Windows sometime this year, now that I've switched to Davinci Resolve for video. I'll keep the iMac if I need to revise or convert old projects.
Update - I'm now using an HP ZBook 17 G6 with an RTX 5000 GPU. Great with my current Presonus AVB rig and runs Davinici without a hiccup. Old iMac replaced with a 2020 iMac 10-core. Davinci runs well on either as does Presonus hardware and software.
If it’s a FireWire device it should work, although I haven’t tested it. The issue is not about the actual device, it’s about accessing FireWire from USB-c. Some laptops no longer have FireWire. Others do, via the USB-C port.

how can I find out if my HP Zbook 15 have firewire 800 built in the motherboard thanks in advance John Tendy

Can I make it work to a USB A, using the same concept?! Different “dongles” tho?
If your computer is USB A only, it may be very old and probably doesn't support Firewire. Check system info.
Can i use an adapter to USB and use with a regular old PC?? For presonus 1602.thanks
Hi, I have a question: does the presonus RM16Ai lose sound quality with a firewire to thunderbolt adapter? I am looking forward to your response
Yes, FireWire 800 to Thunderbolt.

It works with the presonus studiolive 24.4.2?
