  • Wera 816 RA ratcheting screwdriver for 1/4 inch bits.
Having used this for well over a few weeks now ive enjoyed this tool. Usual reliable Wera although note the small print that this isn't made in Germany.
8 degree swing on the ratchet means this is nice and fine for this small tool. Rapidapter works like a charm and the whole tool is a good item to have.
8.5 out of ten. I would give higher if the back drag was better then average but right now its about middle of the road. Perfectly good driver which will take all 1/4 inch including power hex ends.

Maybe one month ago I purchased the Klein Tools 32500HDRT and I loved it so much I bought a second one yesterday. It’s part of their new KNECT system that’s all interchangeable and it’s really neat. A bit larger than this Wera but that’s not an issue for me.

I think i looked at these a while back the thing that put me off was the bits are they proprietary? I realize this is a non issue for most sensible people but it made me not hit the buy button. I think the bits had like little ball bearings in the sides as the detent as this the same?

Cheers. Its interesting I get those that love long ones, then those that stuck my stuff on to listen to while they fall asleep then I get the tempus fugit fans saying HURRY UP i want a review that lasts 8 minutes! I'm glad this channel is different as it helps me stand out in a sea of sub ten min reviews with a jump cuts every 6 seconds. Gives a nice choice for viewers. :-)

I agree with you about locking heads. Those that use primarly philips heads don't like them, but thats because philips heads don't grid the screw, once you are using proper bits, like torx or posidrive they grip so well that often the bit comes out of the driver, insted of the bit off the screw.
I also said I hate the Wera handles, I auctally find them very comfy, untill you need to grip hard to use lots of torque, then I find them quite uncomfortable, the bulge just creates a pressure point on my palm standard grips don't do. Maybe you just don't do hard enough work with your tools ;) Or whats more likely your using them properly and I'm abusing them insted of using the correct tool

Very true. I had to stick up a ton of things on a fence 2 weekend ago and I used a torx15 or it might have been a T20. And even with high quality self taping wood screws the torx head was gripping enough where a non locking head would have driven me around the bend. And I wasn't burying the fasteners as well it was with a non impact driver just a drill I had close by. I think you are spot on with the Wera handles, I can think of people at work who have tried them and think the design is a loads of old rubbish. Here is what I think:
      (A) The Wera handles come in so many dam sizes its inconsistent and even I can find ones that are too large or too small so that handle design loses its sweet spot for my hand size and it does have those hard points.
      (B) I think Wera need to increase the size of the soft bits but still keep it component style so the hard allows torque and the soft helps comfort.
      (C) Any high spot or hard bits over time on long jobs are just asking for blisters so if it feels wrong then its going to hurt after a day long slog
If you lived closer id just send you a load of them so you could try all the handle sizes and see if there is one size that fits but then that doesn't solve the issue as you shouldn't have to worry about handle size if you are buying a tool when that's not an issue on Felo, Wiha and PB Swiss. I like that Wera is different but the handle is love or hate and I completely see why.
Sorry for excessive long reply but I do read all comments and think about them because these views are just my opinion and so in no way can I always be right. Im no expert at all :-)
