If it shreds/tears (which it would easily do because you disturbed it) can lead to infection and the death of the baby. When these babies emerge, their yolks should be gone and bellies hardened. You did not do anyone a favor, especially these unfortunate sea turtles.

Lol the mother literally leaves the beach after laying her eggs and never returns. The hatchlings are 100% on their own before they even hatch. All but one or maybe two won't make it to adulthood but that's due to predators and has nothing to do with someone helping a couple trapped in the packed sand🤦 I swear people are so unintelligent these days...
Why you NEVER carry a baby turtle to the ocean, instead of letting them do it themselves: The strength it takes to pull themselves all the way over yo the water is crucial to their survival because If they dont get that strength, they might not be able to swim and will eventually get EATEN by a bird or drown because they cant get themselves to the surface
