    What a great video and game! Glai was only 1 cow and 1 hog short of winning. Pat's stone storage pulled him through, both of you played a great game. This close score warrants a rematch!

    That was fun to watch, thanks for the upload! Whenever I play these sort of games it’s often a race to get more workers so it was interesting how you both didn’t prioritize that much. I was really surprised every time Glai furnished a cavern and it wasn’t a dwelling haha. Pat’s couple dwelling + two worker turn was huge, thought he’d run away with it after that but it was still really close thanks to Glai’s sheep farm.

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  2 года назад +1

      Hi Christopher. Yeah, normally we would be racing to get more workers out too but it just worked out differently this time as I think we were both trying new things. The Adventurers also give you other options but we probably would have scored more points if we had gone for more workers. We still had a lot of fun with it though! Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated!

    Nice video Pat and Glai ! At first, the Dwarf theme wasn't interesting to me, but... if I imagine the LOTR Dwarves or an RPG clan retiring to peaceful times, ok, I started to get into it. I really like all the cavern room options. Caverna seems like a lot when you look at all the options for the first time, but I think that variety of tiles and rooms gives it more replayability for those who like Agricola. Which one to buy first is the question?

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  2 года назад

      Hi Ken! Thanks a lot, we are delighted you enjoyed the video. Haha - that is a good way of looking at the theme... Gimli and his wife settle down and decide to take up a bit of farming along with their mining, while still venturing out on the odd adventure! The cavern room options are great and there are a lot of tiles to choose from. There are actually 2 sides to the furnishing tiles board. One of them is used for the introductory game and has less tiles to ease new players into the game, but actually when you start playing it is not that complicated and the tiles are in groups of similar type functions. The variety is very good for replayability for sure, but for me I would say to get Agricola first. There is still plenty of replayability in Agricola, with the different Minor Improvements and Occupations changing the direction of your play each time, and there are many different ways to win so, although you are encouraged to do a bit of everything you can have more focus on the different animals or on planting crops, or aiming for points with the Major Improvements, etc. I really like Caverna too, but I think Agricola has a nicer feel to the game. The expansion, Farmers of the Moor, also adds a lot to the game, but it might be difficult to get your hands on it.

I was thinking about buying this game for a group of 4-6 players and I am more tilted towards to the side of buying. Thanks to both of you for your efforts. Also how well is the replayability of the game? Is the starting furnishes changes?

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  2 года назад +1

      Hi Yusuf. Thank you very much for the comment. It is great to hear that you liked our video and that you found it helpful to decide whether to buy the game or not. The furnishing tiles are the same for every game, but there are a ton of them and there are many different strategies that you can take, so I would say that there is very good replayability. If you decide to get the game, we do have a link in the description to get it from Amazon US, which can help support the channel! ;-) Cheers!

    "Dogs don't breathe." Sheep/ship, worth/work. Gotta love closed captioning! 😁
    Mystified that you both disdained growth for so long; the extra actions function in Caverna just as they do in Agricola, generating more points. Had either of you expanded your family early on, it would have been a runaway win instead of a tight race. Also, Glai outfitted a guy for adventuring and then barely bothered; my noggin is bouncing around like a bobblehead.
    No matter, you still provided a good overview of the game and obviously had a good time doing it. Thanks for another top-rank video, and Happy Turkey Day to you both!

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  3 года назад +1

      Haha! "Dogs don't breathe!" Yeah, we did kind of ignore growth for a long time there. I think if one of us had gone for it early, the other would have for sure. It was quite a different game to how we normally play Caverna but I think we were just both trying out new things and seeing how it went. But the extra workers were definitely the difference in the end and Glai regretted not increasing her family. Still, as you say we did have a lot of fun playing it and hopefully viewers can get a good feel for how the game works. Do you prefer Caverna or Agricola yourself?
      Happy Turkey Day Geoff!

    • @MisterG2323
      @MisterG2323 3 года назад +2

      Definitely Agricola, although I still enjoy an occasional Caverna session. Caverna's just a tad too tension-free for my taste, although admittedly I enjoy its point-salad nature now and then. It was nice to see it still functions well with two players; my crew is normally three or four, and if I recall correctly, I once tackled the game with either six or seven players, which of course ran a bit longer than what's normally comfortable. 😁
      I traded a prime copy of AH's Bismarck 2nd edition for my copy of Caverna, mostly on the strength of my friend having printed up and laminated 7 sets of player aids and charts of all the tiles (very nice to have instead of having to lean over the table to see what's what). I think I've gotten about a half-dozen plays out of it, which is still better than Bismarck ever saw, so I feel I got the better end of the deal. 😃

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  3 года назад +1

      @@MisterG2323 I'm with you on that. I enjoy Caverna but Agricola is a lot more streamlined and tense.
      You definitely got the better of the deal if the game is making it to the table more than Bismarck. I haven't played that one.

    • @MisterG2323
      @MisterG2323 3 года назад +1

      The original 60s edition was sort of a precursor to the AH classic Midway, a cat-and-mouse double-blind search game, culminating in one or more gunnery engagements to settle the issue (Midway, of course, had lots of dive and torpedo bombers). 2nd edition Bismarck changed things up more than a bit, but I wouldn't know because I never had the opportunity to play it (iirc it was an unpunched copy I traded off!) Neither version appears to be much in demand these days, but I have fond memories of playing the original game back in the day. No doubt there are computer simulations now that rule those waves...

      Hi Droidux. Caverna doesn’t take too long to set up. You just need to place out the boards, put the tiles on the supply boards and make the round deck by shuffling each stage’s cards separately. I guess most time would be taken by placing the tiles on their corresponding spaces but there is nothing too complicated about it.
