Manhattan is my favorite! What you're making here is the SWEETEST possible version of it. Bourbon instead of Rye = sweet base. Carpano Antica = cloyingly sweetest, richest vermouth available on the market. Garnish = Luxardo cherry = SWEETEST possible garnish. There's a spectrum with this drink.. I do Rye base, Martini & Rossi Vermouth (or Vya if you can find/afford it), then express an orange peel on the top and throw it in for granish and skip that syrupy sweet cherry. But hey, taste is individual so do what you like..
I have a few bottles of Vya, I've used that in the past too (for some older manhattan videos), but "sweetest" is subjective for sure, there are plenty of folks that would say they don't find it sweet, they find it burny and alcohol-forward. They're not wrong...it's just you can have sweetness of different variations. I prefer the vermouth I have open vs. the proper one :) Primarily because I don't care for vermouth too much, but perhaps this would make a good video -- manhattan with Rye + Rossi vs. Bourbon + Antica (and why one is the way it is).
going to do a live stream on Friday and compare the two recipes, but I can't get Rittenhouse here in NH. Thinking about Redemption Rye or Bulleit Rye (both MGP products)
Hurray for day drinking. My favorite drink next to an Old Fashioned. ❤CMC.
Love the channel man!

Do as I write not as I say! Like punt e mes (bitter sweet vermouth). Heck I build mine in glass !! #bringbackthesoapbox 😂
oh yeah, I had Punt e Mes, that wasn't bad, just don't really store a lot of vermouth as I don't use it enough.
Cheapest kinda decent Bourbon that I've ever have is Costcos Kirkland Bourbon but still can compare to Buffalo Trace
so probably in the $23 range or so then, I think that's buffalo trace pricing.
9:49 Does she like her bourbon neat?
usually over an ice ball
Sorry last message. :) Rittenhouse Rye makes a fantastic Manhattan on the cheap.

@@cmcocktails Bulleit Rye is fantastic.. I prefer 100 proof or higher for a Manhattan but it would still be delicious no doubt.
@@userperson5259 Yeah, that was my only concern was not using 100 proof. I'd like to compare the two using similar proof on Rye and Bourbon
Cocktail prices are getting a bit silly. The mark up is crazy and the restaurants get these products cheaper than retail from the distributors.
in NH they pay state liquor store prices...which are pretty competitive...and it's what we pay. So...why pay more for it at the restaurant :)
Amaro drink is not a Manhattan - it's something else.
correct, it's an "Amaro Manhattan", but it's as much a manhattan as a Brooklyn or Green Point :)
