Hello dear friends.❤The song was written in America after Paul moved there - or at least that’s when it was completed. Paul recalls starting to write it in England in the mid-80s. “There’s a mellotron sound at the beginning of the song,” says Paul, “which was originally a vocal melody. It took years - and a move to America - to complete the song. “I started a little bit again in the US,” says Paul. “Everything becomes freer. Ideas were allowed to live and take shape. We just had fun.” Paul recalls: “For that track, I remember standing in the dark in Paisley Park Studios and just playing. We just kept playing. The long jam at the end of the song wasn’t planned. It happened in the studio and we’d never really let ourselves go like that before.” Paul continues: “It’s probably the only song we’ve done where Morten’s vocal is recorded while we’re standing there playing live. The whole thing became a performance. We were able to capture just what was happening then and there, with minimal additions made afterwards, so it was a song that became very easy for us to play live."
I always think about this song when it's a dark and rainy day and the traffic lights reflect on the streets (Emerald green neonlights above, saphire red falls on you below). One of my favourite a-ha songs 💙💚
