I offered Ian petrol money for him driving me round in his car ... he said "No, just plug my book!!". Happy to sir, thanks Ian! septemberpublishing.org/product/one-fine-day/
Stop it Geoff. Please. This is such a good watch, again! You always seem to make each video you do better than the last one. Hope you did this trip when there were no strikes 😍
A great way to cap off a brilliant series. Dolau station is a little gem amongst all the others too!! I hope Karl and Ian feature in more series down the line as they are both characters. Glad you all enjoyed Wales Geoff, and like you said, absolutely spoilt with the weather.
This video brings back many happy memories of when I was a child and we used to go on holiday to a farm near Llanbister Road. We used to ride the Heart of Wales Line to some of the stations you visited in this video and then go for a walk. Dolau was my favourite station on the line.
Yes I've bought at least 2 of Ian's books. They are full of the wonderful social history that has gone dormant in my consciousness! And the day is brilliantly brought alive by Geoff Marshall!
Great series, Geoff! Heard a lot about Dolau, and how fiercely competitive they are there about keeping their station in tip-top shape. Now I know why!
what a delightful day. Good friends, beautiful weather, interesting places. I have wanted to do this line since all the stations and now that I see the Heart of Wales Trail route, even more drawn to the prospect of inn to inn opportunity.
I love Ians T shirt, I need one....Dolau is the best station ever, it's fantastic when the steam specials come through, I have a video of a black 5 double header going through. Love the videos.
Hi Geoff, loving the series. I did the Heart of Wales Trail in 2021, and my closest station is Llangadog. That was actually the last station before the Sherwood Forester flat spotted its wheels to the point where it couldn't proceed any further, and ended up spending a week stuck at Llandeilo. It is a fantastic line, and can fully recommend the hike from Craven Arms to Llanelli (not completed in 4 days!)
The old couple who owned the old station house at Llanbister Road let me park at the end of their drive for a day, as long as I didn't block it off. The people along the way are amazing.
It’s amazing to see you travel around on my local railway line and showcase all the places you can travel to. I got to meet you when you did all the stations in Llanwrtyd Wells back in 2017.
With the railway industry seeming to often try its hardest to put people off using trains, it's great seeing Geoff and his friends showing how the lines link communities and travelling by rail can be so enjoyable.
Was at uni in west Wales in mid 90s but lived on Wirral so travelled the line a couple of times. I remember breaking down much like you did in ep1 I think at Llandrindod and being stuck there for about 3 hours. A kindly soul from a nearby house provided me and the small smattering of others drinks of lemonade and biscuits whilst we waited.
Well the best of this little series so far! Love all those little stations .. highlight for me was the two goats at Cilmeri Station .. took me back to the early 60’s visiting my grandparents home in Mary Tavy in Devon .. my grandfather had two goats Easter & Wonder which he kept in a paddock at the back of his home … sadly all long gone as is the station there 😢. Thank you for this lovely series Geoff!
What a brilliant trip geoff. Those stations and the localities were magnificent. What a change from the typical functionary boring everyday stations we see in our daily lives. Those communities must have real pride in their stations.
The 153s you are travelling on used to ply between Great Yarmouth and Norwich and Sheringham, Cromer - Norwich, before they were cascaded to Wales in 2020.
I have "loved" your "Heart of Wales" series. The filming and editing were top notch, the commentary spot on and your guests charming. Thank you for taking the time to share this experience with us.
Very beautiful footages of nice landscapes. I love the sound of the gaps between the rails - it is nostalgy and often on brach links- ratatata.....ratatata....😊
I remember our first trip on the line back in the 1980's when we caught the early train from Shrewsbury in one of the old first generation DMU's where we sat in seats behind the driver looking out of the front windows. At one of the stations the driver waited for the regular commuter but the commuters wife showed to say that her husband was ill and wouldn't be travelling that day. Just imagine that happening anywhere else.
Hi Aussie fan here. Great Series Geoff. So fascinated with Ian Marchant's work that today l placed an on-line order for a second hand copy Parallel Lines. Also I really like the way in which this series is formatted.
So many GOATs in one video. Ahem. Cheers. P.S. If nothing else, the events of the past week have shown me that I need a video featuring cute rural stations and local animals every single damn day. Please get on this reasonable request, Geoff. Ta 😉
It really is a most wonderful video series and clearly place. It makes me terribly sad that more lines like this didn’t survive Beeching and Marples. I would make a wonderful series for Geoff to do.
If stations were maintained like this I think the railways could attract a ton of people to take the railway just for the charm and might make people commute a tad bit better.
I’ve ticked ✅ off most of the Heart ❤️ of Wales line stations. In 2019 I walked from Newtown on the Cambrian line right across to Llanbister Road; 18.5 miles! 😲
A few years ago I did that line using an All Line Rover. Diolau station was so nice that I asked the conductor if I'd time to jump out and grab some photos before continuing the journey and he happily obliged in holding the service whilst I got a few snaps.
I agree with the "standing train" description, with the exception of if it's the end of the line so the train changes service to work the other direction, so has a new headcode. Because sometimes its a long wait at the end of branches.
When I was a kid the signal box in Llandrindod was about a mile away at the crossing (between the crossing chippy and Hodges). They moved it to make it more central. For a while it was a museum. Mind you, back then it was a single track. They made it back to be dual track in the late 80s
I offered Ian petrol money for him driving me round in his car ... he said "No, just plug my book!!". Happy to sir, thanks Ian!

Your the best Geoff
Another book to add to my list, after your plug for Parallel lines, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading, keep up the good work and the travelling.
Ian’s books are brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed both Parallel Lines and The Longest Crawl.
Have you done the West Wales coast line?
You’re welcome Geoff!
"Geoff, this is your very own copy. I want you to have this...... Well pay me, obviously"
😂😂😂
Ian is a proper character
He is. Reminds me of a friendly vogon.
Loved his book Parallel Lines.
Love his t-shirt
We never disappoint!
"They like snacks and food."
"So do I."
He's channelling most people here I feel.
Terrific episode of a great series Geoff! What a collection of lovely and charming stations. Karl is always a welcome addition, and Ian is a treasure.
Really enjoying the series so far Geoff 😀
Nice to see local pride and friendly rivalry between the stations on the line. :)
Stop it Geoff. Please. This is such a good watch, again! You always seem to make each video you do better than the last one. Hope you did this trip when there were no strikes 😍
very kind, thank you!
A great way to cap off a brilliant series. Dolau station is a little gem amongst all the others too!! I hope Karl and Ian feature in more series down the line as they are both characters. Glad you all enjoyed Wales Geoff, and like you said, absolutely spoilt with the weather.
Isn't there one more day?
@@zzzaphod8507 my mistake! Lol., Getting a bit ahead of myself for a minute. Loving this series in particular

A cheerful, relaxed and carefree Geoff out on the rails in beautiful countryside and visiting amazing stations with friends. How damn good is that??
has to be the best series of geoff's by far
Regarding Llandrindod ticket office, it is to be reopened soon, ticket office staff were being trained at Hereford not too long ago.
Great series, Geoff! Heard a lot about Dolau, and how fiercely competitive they are there about keeping their station in tip-top shape. Now I know why!
I want to recreate this in Wales. I’m really loving this series.
It’s like ‘The Amazing Race’ where Geoff is both the host and the participant.
Any possibility of publishing your route / timetabling?
Karl, the best guest appearance, period!
A true gem, I am hooked.
Nice guy Ian, brilliant post Geoff some of those stations beautiful
Dolau station is precious! What a lovely place!
This mini series is truly wonderful. Great work Geoff 👌
Dolau looks absolutely stunning!!! Got to be one of the best looking stations in the UK period.
I've never heard someone sound so happy at going into a station shelter.
Imagine going from being cattle in the London Tube to patting goats in Wales!
Do you remember that song that went "Reunited and it feels so good" - that's what was playing in my head when I saw Geoff and Karl together ! Bliss!
what a delightful day. Good friends, beautiful weather, interesting places. I have wanted to do this line since all the stations and now that I see the Heart of Wales Trail route, even more drawn to the prospect of inn to inn opportunity.

this is the best series ever. and for all us embedded-in-tarmac Londoners.. a vicarious dream come true. thank you.
That ticket office must have closed during Covid, as I used it a couple of times when I lived in the area.
You make it very difficult for us to remain cynical Geoff
No reason to be cynical, unless you spend all day watching 24 hour news.
@@ajs41 truth!
Never been to Wales but it looks lovely.
Builth Road-station... best I've ever seen. Even better than walking into Luton Towns Kenilworth Road footballground.

Oh my God I can't believe it. Karl's never been this far away from home! (At least not in a Geoff video)
It’s amazing to see you travel around on my local railway line and showcase all the places you can travel to. I got to meet you when you did all the stations in Llanwrtyd Wells back in 2017.
Great rail ramble! Those jointed rail sounds are a blast from the past.
With the railway industry seeming to often try its hardest to put people off using trains, it's great seeing Geoff and his friends showing how the lines link communities and travelling by rail can be so enjoyable.
It's lines like this, that show the rail network isn't simply about funneling people from A to B. There's a reason the railway era is romanticised.
Great series on a beautiful line. How about Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog? Beautiful and lots of history...
Your enthusiasm for Dolau is priceless and timeless!
What a fantastic journey and capture... just loving it.... thanks so much geoff.. you're brilliant as always....

Must take a moment to appreciate the motion tracking of the flower blowing in the breeze at 10:09. Top work.
What a great way to spend a few days, perfect!

As always, just loving watching this series of videos Geoff. So delighted you’re loving it and Ian and Carl are great too. 😀🚆🏴😀
I love Builth Road. What an awesome station. The relaxed feel of the whole line is so appealing.
The 153s you are travelling on used to ply between Great Yarmouth and Norwich and Sheringham, Cromer - Norwich, before they were cascaded to Wales in 2020.
Brilliant series Geoff and friends,You have inspired me to visit this line very soon!
I love the dolau station is so oldie worldie and quant . I love the old water pump.
Would love to see Ian and Roger together..a real meeting of the minds
Noted!
Wonderful! Thanks Geoff and Co.

Brilliant Geoff, cannot wait for Day 4, Some lovely stations as well.

What an outstanding series you have filmed. What a joy to watch !!!
Wales looks lovely. Such a great line i'd love to explore it some day.
I have a copy of Ian Marchant’s earlier book Parallel Lines which is well worth a read.
BRILLIANT COMEDY, GREAT COUNTRYSIDE AND THOSE 153'S OLD SIGNAMAN !
Very good Geoff - with Lovely views along the line!!! 🙂🚂🚂🚂
Absolutely brilliant 👍
I think Dolau is going to need a bigger waiting shelter before long to put all those "best station" certificates
What an amazing series Geoff.
You have been so lucky with the weather Geoff it’s great 👍
So many GOATs in one video. Ahem. Cheers.
P.S. If nothing else, the events of the past week have shown me that I need a video featuring cute rural stations and local animals every single damn day. Please get on this reasonable request, Geoff. Ta 😉
Knucky viaduct is a joy to behold.😊
You're making me want to go to Wales!
Builth road is the Luton town of railway stations
Exactly what I thought! 😂
Nice mention for Boston 🧡
Always. Saw you play twice last season.
@@Bartlebooth23 So I saw on your website - I was at both of those games too. Think I escaped from your photos though!
Landod ticket office has now been re-opened!
Fantastic work Geoff heart of wales series is amazing.thank you
Pen-y-Bont translates to Bridgend, which you probably went through to get to Llanelli in the first place.
That ticket office at Llandrindod is now re-opened
It really is a most wonderful video series and clearly place. It makes me terribly sad that more lines like this didn’t survive Beeching and Marples. I would make a wonderful series for Geoff to do.
I am loving this series Geoff 👍👍👍
I missed this one when you posted it somehow. What magical spots for stations!
If stations were maintained like this I think the railways could attract a ton of people to take the railway just for the charm and might make people commute a tad bit better.
Great video Geoff
That is the most beautiful part of Wales
Builth Road might be my new favourite station 🤣

Awesome Video
Builth Road 🤝Kenilworth Road away end (Luton Town)
Entrance through someone’s kitchen
I had a model of a signal box when I was younger. I always remember it when I see an old signal box
Another great day! Cheers Geoff!
Builth Road seems to be like the railway’s version of (Luton Town FC’s) Kenilworth Road with the way you enter the station.
I agree with the "standing train" description, with the exception of if it's the end of the line so the train changes service to work the other direction, so has a new headcode. Because sometimes its a long wait at the end of branches.

Llanbister Road and Dolau, what gorgeous places. Beautiful!
Wow geoff marshall you have inspired me
Fabulous. New thing for the station tick list - 'Dot matrix... binliner wafting in the breeze....' and Harrington hump.
I want you to have this! Well pay me obviously😂😂😂
Wow I'll be scouring these stations with whole new eyes next time I visit!
The country looks beautiful.
Is Iain available for hire for the rest of us to tick off the line too? 😂
Really interesting Geoff 😊 What a shame Dr Beeching & BR closed so many lines that could of been so useful in today’s world 👍🏻
