If we are trying to put God in some category, perhaps we can put God in the category of Ultimate. The category of Ultimate would be something that is unconditionally, nondependent, non-derivative, and fully self-contained, from which all things to derive and depend. This would be something that is metaphysically primary. What do you think about that?
Yeah that sounds good: Aquinas’ point isn’t that you can’t say true things about God, which would be in a sense to categorize Him, but that the category wouldn’t be a genus properly speaking. It wouldn’t be a metaphysical principle of an essence that combines with a difference to make a species.
