- OH BOY this was a treat! Born during a time when I was still in school and stable-mates to other very delectable Ford passenger cars at the time, this folks is an 80's Ford Telstar TX5!! Yes, it pretty-much predates every gadget you're holding or viewing this video on...
What were you doing in 1984? Did u even exist yet? Well, this car did, and it was very popular indeed. Like the legendary TX3 (which I will review soon!) the TX5 was only available in liftback form, and this one is powered by a 2.0L (1,998cc), in-line 4cyl, 8V, SOHC carb'd engine producing a very respectable 94bhp and 158Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual, that sends drive to the front wheels.
Now the best part... this car is for SALE! Yes, this amazing preserved specimen could be yours for a paltry RM7.5k, buy and drive, like holy shit, why am I not buying this?!?! I'll answer that in my next video, stay tuned!! :)

That's a Mazda 626 engine. But u can't beat the built quality of these era cars.
Absolutely!! These things were built to last a lifetime. It's still for sale btw 😉🙏🏽👍🏾
Don't stop buying and reviewing old cars such as these! Loving it 😘
Thanks for the support bud!! Stay tuned 😉🙏🏽👍🏾😁😁😁
As someone from the U.K., this 1980’s Ford is utterly confusing, and so interesting all at the same time!!!
Hahaha! From a time (over here) when Ford & Mazda had a joint venture going on. We called them Mazfords 😄
Your passion and enthusiasm for old cars is infectious !
Hahahaha!! Thanks bud 🙏🏽👍🏾😉
This car is in amazing condition and it’s older than me . Even my much newer don’t have a digital speedometer. Super cool
It's in remarkable condition bud, if u have the means, u shld buy this, it's a keeper for sure 😉🙏🏽👍🏾😁
This definitely represents cars of the early 80s: clean cut Ghia design, grill-less front, digital meter and plenty of push-button controls. My aunty had the already cool saloon version, but this TX5 is a step up.
Whoever buys this can brag to Bobby that his dads Crown is not the only one with oscillating air vents that work 🤣
Hahahahaha!! Indeed bro, yes indeed. This car is a worthwhile buy, whoever gets this is very lucky. It's not restored, it's been preserved, frickin time-warp condition!!😀😀😀
This was my favorite car growing up... such a futuristic car back then....
Yes indeed it was!! Way ahead of the game for its time, and the best part is everything still works!!😀👍🏾
So retro. So original. So amazing.
Right?? Amazing time-warp machine 😊👍🏾🙏🏽
My dad used to have that car more than 20 years ago!!! This brings back so many memories!!!
Awesome!! Thanks for watching and the comment, yeah, this car was quite popular here in the 80s, but they've kinda disappeared over time. I do still see a few running around, but none as original as this unit 👍🏾😊
When i watch your videos, it makes me feel more appreciate these kind of cars. Love to read the comments too! Cuz people keep telling about their memories with their cars back then 😁
Exactly!! I love reading about their memories of these cars too, really appreciate it so much. Thanks for watching and the comment too bud!!🙏🏽👍🏾😀
Just got one from 1987 after the facelift. That's a pretty car I must say.
Congrats!! Wow, that's awesome, well done bud 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😀
So glad i found this channel! Love your videos.
Thanks a lot for that, much appreciated!! Glad to hear you're enjoying the vids🙏🏽👍🏾😀
My dad had this in brown! Then he changed to the 2nd gen Telstar 1.8 Ghia sedan and eventually the facelifted Telstar TX5 Ghia. Good memories.
Aww, too cool! My dad was a Ford guy too, he had 2 Cortinas. Thanks for sharing that car memory bro 🙏🏽👍🏾😀
I always remember the rim on this series of car. It was one of the few cars with rims that are not boring style.
Yes indeed, and notice they're one solid block? No holes except for the valve and lug-nut holes 😃😃😃
Can't wait for the zx 16v to be in your collection😬
The one cameo'd in this video is one of the best I've seen in a very long time indeed!!😀😀😀
Wow Chris...I was 15 years old when my father bought the TX5 in 1984. With all the nice electric buttons n digital meter. It was really fast n remember it can do 200kmh easily.
So lucky u had one in the family bud!! This was an awesome car, and it still is!!😀😀😀👍🏾🙏🏽
Wow. What a find. Was just mentioning about the 626 and Telstar on the Aurizn FB a few days ago. And here we are the TX5. With the awesome digital meter too. To put into perspective, Knight Rider was just showing on TV3 in 1984. And KITT of course had digital dash. So seeing this digital meter in '84 reminded one of KITT.
Hahahaha!! Yup, exactly right, just missing the oscillating red strobe lights up front....and an indestructible body 😂😂😂👍🏾😍😉
Damn u really brought back memories... My dad used to own a 1981 Laser hatch and I still remember it pulls to 55km/h on 1st gear, no rpm meter that time...
Hahahaha!! Thanks for sharing that car memory bro, yes I remember that car very well and very fondly too 😀👍🏾🙏🏽
Can't remember the last time I saw one of these on the road here in Melbourne, let alone one this good! Very classy car back in the day.
Greetings from Malaysia!! Yes indeed bud, and still a lovely car to drive too!! Thanks for watching and the comment!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏾😀
Out of the classic Telstar's i prefer the AS TX5's, the indicators were moved down into the front bumper instead of being directly under the headlamps, and they came with different 15 inch alloys. I personally owned a AS TX5 Turbo Ghia, unfortunately the head blew up 3 days after i bought it. I had the head rebuilt but it blew out in the exact same spot as the first time with a massive chunk taken out between cylinder number 1 and 2. I ended up scrapping it afterwards unfortunately, but it was a really nice car for the 3 days i drove it lol
Also the AS TX5 Turbo Ghia's came with electronic adjustable suspension, there was a push button where you could set it between soft and hard/sport and these little motors on top of the struts would wind a shaft that would adjust the suspension stiffness
Wow, that's awesome feedback, thanks a lot! Sorry to hear about the car lasting only 3 days, oh my....😔
My Pak Anjang had a limited edition 1.8 TX5 sedan. Was quite comfy for its time. And I had an 84 Mazda 626 in the UK, with that MASSIVE cargo space, and no power steering! This brings back memories 😁 thanks kakilang!
Thank YOU for sharing that car memory bro!! Nice one@!😀😀😀🙏🏽👍🏾
I basically grew up in this car (not the exact car but same model). My dad had one from 92 to 95'. It had a super annoying buzzer at a certain speed
Ooh I would SO have that removed by hook or by crook, very annoying indeed!!😂😂😂
The first car with digital mileage meter reader 🤩🤩👍🏼👍🏼
Fantastic right? Back in the 80s this was science fiction come true 😀😀😀
Mitsubishi cordia next, please😁
@@azazelsamael6957 always loved the Cordia, never owned one, but I did have a Celeste some time ago, very rare now 😀
believe or not.. this is the only recent videos of tx5 in malaysia i couldnt find any.. literally sobbing inside ..totally sentimental.. bring back childhood memories.. my dad drove us from sabak bernam during school holiday to kuantan all the way in 1999 with it.. aaaa its tempting.. i want to get it
Thanks for the wonderful comment, which I just saw after a year! Tq for sharing that lovely car memory bro 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
Really? Wow, cool! Thanks for the info bud and sorry for the late reply after a year, I just saw this! Thanks for sharing that nice car memory bro, much appreciated! Hope u get one someday 🙏🏽😀👍🏽
This brought me back to my childhood! I remember the Ghia logo on the glove box, oscillating ac vents, and that keyhole "handle" on the trunk. Very nostalgic! Zero complaints whatsoever except for it being non power steering. But overall, great car! Oh, unleaded gas too!
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing that, great memory u have, cheers!! 😀🙏🏽👍🏾
Damn! This car is even 1 older than me! What a terrific condition! Nice find and buy!
Its in incredible condition bro, unbelievably so. What sorcery is this?!😂😂😂
yess the laser S twin carb..in black ..a dream hot hatch of the 80s..i think theres a lot of mazda in fords those days..the tx3 1.6i was a twin with the 323 gtx..citroen zx was the best handling and ride of them all..lets have a review of my old car, i had the 1.9 4dr and later the 2dr zx16..great cars from PSA
I had the 2.0 Volcane 4dr, loved it! Only sold it cos I bought the aforementioned Satria GTi 😊
Speaking about citroen zx.. My dad have too... 2.0 volcane... Love it so much... And chris.. Y not proton tiara.... Aka citroen ax that bought by proton... I have 1...Still running... Nice little car.. Quirk here and there... Hahaha
@@anasluqman6234 why not indeed, fun little Msian/French car the Tiara!!🙏🏽👍🏾😀
Beautiful TX5, memories! That digital meter & vents are signature! Hope it gets a good home:)
Ps. I will always slam the front hood.
I hope so too bud, hey, buy it so your Escort(s) has a big-daddy for a friend 😉😉😉😁
My dad used to own this car, this exact model (same rim, not the dial telephone one), back in 1984 me think, together with Isuzu jj. Lots of memories. I still remember, during my parents divorced, my mom and I went to the court in our Isuzu jj, any my father's family side in the tx5. I was so frustrated coz I love the tx5 hahaha. I was 5 or 6 back then, didn't understand why my parents went to the court separately. But i guess the tx5 really spark my interest in automobile
Aww man, sorry to hear that, but thanks a lot for sharing that car memory bro, much appreciated!!! Wanna buy this one for old times sake?😉😉😉🙏🏽👍🏾😁
@@ChrisWeevilGarage wow, maybe your manual e36? The tx5 is way too ol skool for me hahahahahahahahaha
@@azam810908 PM tepi if ur keen 😉
I live in New Zealand and recently bought my first car, 1984 Mazda 626 which is in similar awesome condition. Great video! Biggest difference to the telstar is my beige interior with corduroy seats, but I never see that same digital dashboard anywhere! Super cool I totally understand your excitement
Wow, congrats!! I have a video on a Mazda 626 Liftback somewhere in here too, a black one, might be the same/similar model you bought, well done on that, great score James!!👍🏾😀
Just came across this video. As much as I adore this TX5, the Sierra XR4i (the European equivalent) will always be my choice of Fords.
Oh yesss, the XR4i is one helluva a car, once the preferred car of bank robbers who needed to make a fast getaway 😃😃😃
The kopitiam boss that I go everyday still owns his dark blue 1.8 manual TX3 Laser 3 doors lift back and it still rocks.
Edit, he just bought a red Focus FYI.
Would it be red and happen to be in SS3 somewhere?😀😀😀
I remembered when browsing my family's old album and apparently my father used to own Ford Telstar with 4 rounded hole rims, not sure what trim but since we live in rural area, my father told me only 2 people owns it in the town back then xD
That's lovely, Thanks for sharing that car memory bro, nice!! I remember those 4 hole alloy rims too, iconic!👍🏾😀
those meters are the main reason this car is a baller
Absolutely 💯% right bud!!😄🙏🏽👍🏽
Crotch vents!!!! Hahahaha imagine after a footie with friends and u r wearing shorts... Hahahahhaa
Yup!! So beneficial in times like that, hahahaha!!🤭🤣👍🏾
Demn u bro. One of the car that still remains in my list.. Love the ori sports rims, digital meter, oscillating vents. I found one few years ago, but with not original parts such as rims and Mazda dashboard. Unfortunately, can't buy now, business not that good.
Find us a nicely kept Mitsubishi Super Touring, the TX5 rival at that time. It will make my day
Ooh, I love the MST!! Almost bought one from Ramesh a while ago, but his partner Ashari beat me to it!! Hahahaha!!😁
Wishing u brighter business days bro, hope u can buy this car or one just like it someday 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏾😀
@@ChrisWeevilGarage yup, fingers crossed. Btw, my friend just bought a 1989 Proton Saga 1.5s Magma Sedan, from Taiping. Bought from a pakcik for Rm2.5k, with 2 digits number plate... Good condition and as per writing now, he still driving the car back from Taiping to KL after ownership transfer jpj there. Btw a TX3 sampan next?

@@azlandin9911 your friend's Magma sounds great too!! What a lucky find. And for that price, awesome!! Convey my congratulations to him please 😀🙏🏽👍🏾
The time when ford with less problems
That can be said for ALL modern day carmakers, they're making cars that are too over-complicated 😂
Cars like this are from a much simpler time bud 😀🙏🏽👍🏾
because it was a Mazda with a Ford badge
@@Banom7a or a Ford with a Mazda badge if it was the 626 😆
Waiting for u to review the TX-3 Sampan...good job there Chris!!!
Cheers DC, thanks!! Yup, I'm looking forward to reviewing that Sampan too 👍🏾🙏🏽😀
Stay tuned!!😊
Hey It was a Mazda for the US market.I was learning English in the state of Massachusetts in 1984 lol.
Hahaha!! Nice!! Yup, here was a Mazda variant of this here too, since Ford & Mazda were in bed together during that era 😀🙏🏽👍🏾
My dad got two models...1.8 & 2.0...since he was ford dealership during 80's....the only car provide oscillator aircond vent I think....very good car....
Nice! Yes, it's still a very good car indeed, till this day! :)

That's the way you close the bonnet. Nice one Chris, some till today don't know how to close them properly. Must be the Ghia model.
Cheers bro, yeah, it scares me when ppl push on the bonnet to close it!! Lol!! Yes it's a Ghia, very cool 😀😀😀

Hahaha!! Cheers bud, thanks for watching and the comment too!! Glad u enjoyed it 🙏🏽👍🏾😊
My uncle had a 626 back then. It was a popular choice among families
Yes indeed it was, thanks for sharing!!🙏🏽👍🏾😊
My late uncle used to own the sedan version and i still remember the reading light on the roofline, because it's kinda rare during that day. And those rims! Man...
Talk about Laser S, one of my friend used to owned Laser S with 4 round headlamp in the front. Super rare now days.
Whoa, that 4-round headlight variant is super rare, most are the 2-square type! Later the Laser TX3 1.6 also had a few variants with the 4-round headlights, also very rare now 😀👍🏾🙏🏽
@@ChrisWeevilGarage try cari 1 la bro. My friend already sold his. With Mazda 1.6 engine I think.
My parents nearly bought one in 1988 but went for a 1984 Mazda 626 GLX Liftback instead, pretty much the same car anyway! Had a great run out of it.
Yes, very much the same car, with different badges, born of the Mazford alliance 😀
My dad had this exact car! Same colour everything. It had Terengganu plates. TH something I've forgotten. He sold it to a friend back in the 80s for 20k . And got himself a Cressida for some reason XD
Nice!! Thanks for sharing that car memory bro, my dad had a Cressida too!! Did u know the small covered emblem in the centre of the steering wheel was made of gold? Awesome right??😀😀😀

Yup, Ford and Mazda produced a lot of similar cars back then, I remember back then the race was on for who would be able to launch the new Telstar / 626 first!! Telstar launched first, in Club Med @ Cherating 😀😀😀
