- Boston University alum David Roy has a passion for kinetic sculptures; so much so that he has hand build thousands of pieces over the course of his artistic career. In this video, Roy discusses his creative process for making a kinetic sculpture, from the design framework to the final product.
I'm glad this 2 minute cideo taught me everything I need to know about the intricacies of kinetic sculpture
Ikr
Clickbait strikes again lol. Uploader could have chosen a more appropriate title for the video.
Currently own David's wonderful piece called solo. Truly a work of art and quite a joy to watch it in motion. It's truly art in motion.
"The world is made by artists and engineers." Thank you David Roy! ~ Catherine Todd
Catherine S. Todd. Madam, this no art, only engineering and mathematical curves. Mathematical curves create different emotions and these include monotony, gentleness, excitation, aggressiveness. The intention behind a shape is brought through the use of the right mathematical curve. All items which we call artistic lose all their art once they are isolated at a distance and unseen by human sensors, but even at a distance and in the dark all that remains in artistic items is their engineering support structure. The artistic motions are not included in the item placed before an observer, but it is the observer's own mind related to his background which creates his emotion. Any item in art galleries is pure engineering and the art is the drugged emotions that are created when a human looks at an engineering or geometrical line that contains particular curves. My studies indicate the following. Straight lines project monotony, circles projet gentleness, reverse curves as curls project excitement, and sharp points project aggressiveness. Again, there is no art, only mathematics, geometry, and engineering.
@@carmelpule6954 The definition of art doesn't exist because it is entwined with the definition of consciousness. Consciousness cannot be defined and so spirituality and psychoanalysis and philosophy tried to colour in the surrounding areas. I don't think they'll ever be correct, at least in my lifetime, but to say that art simply doesn't exist and all of reality can be reduced to Positivism is... weird.
Hope all's going well with you - who is your favourite engineer?
Mr. Roy, I love your work. That is absolutely amazing artwork there. You're awe-inspiring. Thank you for sharing with us.
This man is doing deep meditation by watching his masterpieces for hours. Wow.
we need people like him change the world as we know it,just imagine one piece in every home makes kids much more interested in physics.
Now he has a complex mind. And lots of quiet solitude for thought. Then a choice to keep it in or put his energy into creating the piece. I'm glad he did. Beautiful wonderful works.
I'm in complete awe of anyone that can even imagine the mechanics that drive these sculptures, let alone create and build it. And I'm a mechanical engineer!?! smh I want one, regardless of price. Just amazing!
40 years work
you're a mechanical engineer and can't imagine how gears, levers, and pulleys work? lol.
If he opens up a class to teach, I'll sure sign up for it!
HELLO... ME Too... Would be glad to pay good money to learn even a little bit from this man...
@@judichristopher4604 you need logo something like this kinetic sculpture?
Me too..
Mr. Roy, im a woodworker. Could you please share the tools that you use to make such deatailed woodwork. Maybe a video on the making and finishing techniques?
After watching this video i actually understand how to make, or maybe replicate, one of his motion sculptures. It's an art and mechanical engineering match made in heaven, I love it
Love the fact it winds up...love the winding sound...very pretty...love to have one on my wall!
ME too..
Your work embodies the kind of videos people like to title " oddly satisfying".
The first time I saw this type of art was on a quarts analouge clock when I was 6 years old. That giant clock had so many moving arms and gears, yet every motion makes a visual illusion.
Mr. Roy, I love your work
Wow!!!
Absolutely beautiful, and so mesmerising!
Wonderful items.
David, why don't you show the working of the sculpture? Here we are some peoples are expecting that you will be explain everything in the next video.
This is so mesmerizing.
what software do you use to create the animated geometry linework ?
It offers just enough to make me interested in making something like this for myself. I want to make something out of metal though with my powerplasma cutter. Wood and metal offer such great opportunities for expression.
The first step is in my head, which I can't show you;👍🏻👍🏻
Nice one ☝️😁
Which part of this was the "How To Make" bit from the title?
David: *explains sculpture*
Video: *shows a completely different sculpture*
love so much this video. like the video is the best.
As we develop day by day,
Always follow your luck
I sincerely hope that your channel will be very big.
Fascinating...-awesome complex works.-💡
David Roy...One of a kind Genius....Loving ur work 💘💘💘🙏
I would love to have those pieces on my walls as wells! 😍
1:10 any idea what softare he is using to see how what it looks like when in motion?
Espetacular!!!
Ótimo trabalho Parabéns!!!
i love your work, wow!!
What is the program that he uses on his computer to visualize the designs?
I know exactly how to build a kinetic sculpture thanks
Make a RUclips video we would love to see...
That is sooo cool.
Hi Mr. Roy, what is the name of this technique?
Do you have any tips for an art admirer to take the first steps?
Forgive my English ...
Tks
Amazing work!!!! Btw...What software does he use to make the digital simulations on his laptop?
Looks like he is using After Effects® on that laptop
"How to Make a Kinetic Sculpture" where's the beef? what software and tools? specifically?
Maestro!!!! You are a Genius, I love your Job, ART!!!
The beginnings of an alternative form of energy.
THANKS! I would like to know about the 'Winding' Mechanism[s]. - I (also) wish i could attach one to myself.
Mr Roy. I ordered one of your pieces and it came in pieces. No instructions on how to put it together. Could you please send some instructions
I spent so many hours watching this
beautifull, what is the name of the software he use? ? plsss
does he sell these?
YES... from what I hear... and they're about $2000. each or more.
Beautiful sculpture
Nice patterns but did not show me how to make! Would be nice to download some SVG files of patterns so I can create this masterpieces.🤔😁
Sir one guy In India seeing you engineering he made same thing for make fan without electricity or solar !
Just fabulous.
Name of the program that you are using?
I love his "Infinity" sculpture.... (seems extremely similar to his "Vise Versa" sculpture) but I can't possibly swing the 4K to buy one.....
on his web site, he warns of Fake Chinese copies for 40 bucks, on the web....but, something tells me, based on my experience with ANYTHING Chinese...
.....that one of those would probably break in less than a month...!!!!
Anyway.... I like your work David. Cool stuff.
wow..amaizing.. wich softwarw do you use? your work is awesome.. congrats.
Looks like he is using After Effects® on that laptop
I'm not so much into working with wood but I sure would love to make some metal art with my everlast welder
They are really amazing..thankyou
beautifull, what is the name of the software he use?
Did you figuer it out? Cause I'm interested too (=
It seems that he just uses Adobe After Effects.
How wonderful! Love to see and touch things made from various pieces/types of wood. Any possibility that you sell these wonders? Or do you sell your patterns?
checkout "Clayton Boyer". Just google his name.
His work far superior to this guy.
Wasin Intasarn, I completely disagree, these two men have completely different objectives. One is tied to time & the other frees your mind up from being tied to time.
Also I found out that kinetic energy expands when the hoberman sphere is bounced or rolled. Quite a interesting way to understand how energy is travelled.
Wish I could afford one of these! Just out of my price range sadly.
Anyone know where I could buy it for my coffee shop ?
amazingly beautiful... thank you
Perfect work
Could your kinetic wall art turn a generator?
This is inspiring
Amazing art ,😍
love love wish I could make one
Beautiful. I love it!
maravilloso !!! quiero aprender y trabajar en esto.
Thanks. That was really helpful. I learned a lot.
Amazing! What software do you use for modeling and animation? Thank you for your time!
I believe he is using After Effects® on that laptop
Where can I buy it?
Are the sites online selling these legitimate?
great artist, but thumbs down for misleading title
Yes. He doesn’t even mention the software that he uses.
@@remlya Hey, there's another newer video, search for How This Guy Builds Mesmerizing Kinetic Sculptures | Obsessed | WIRED
He talks a bit more about the design process.
@@remlya Software? Will assume you are joking...
@@remlya he uses some software that can't be used anymore so he got loads of old iMac so he can use the program
How can I get one of this ??
You should look at Orokin sculptures, some of those are hypnotising and mathematically fascinating.
Maestro como estas exelente tus obras de arte
