    A HUGE shout out to CBS Sunday Morning for spotlighting this amazing event. Having attended the AB for many years and being witness to the unrivaled amount of energy and spirit, it's impossible not to love everything about it. Bring on the 50th! #Birkie2024

    I miss winters in Wisconsin. You can ski tour anywhere (mostly) without having to drive for hours among other drivers who don’t have a clue about driving in snow, you can go out for a skate-ski like an evening run, and the landscape is white and quiet.

    I have been there. Never participated in the race but I've skied around there, and that part of Wisconsin is beautiful

    I skied it...once. I recall saying afterwards that childbirth would have been easier (and over faster)! It was by far the toughest endurance event I've done and I'm super proud I did it.

    Be sure and request a wave upgrade. I started in the last wave (1st timer) and it was SLLLooooowwww! Everyone just stopped and herringboned up the hills, no V1 or even Coaches Skate. No room to pass. Very frustrating.

    ♥This year it was my second Birkie, in 2020 I did pre-Birkie) Moved from Wave 5 to Wave 2. My time was 2:02 Kortelopet. This is an amazing experience! Pure adrenaline! It gave me energy for the whole week!

    Wish they had covered how they build that ski bridge every year that goes over the road - where they are coming downhill on skis into town.

    • @toddknutson9897
      @toddknutson9897 Год назад +1

      The bridge is stored in Hayward until it is needed each year. Constructed of wood, the bridge is assembled each year during Birkie week, generally 2-days before events begin, allowing time to put down the 85 dump truck loads of snow on Main Street and the bridge. The bridge made an appearance at Super Bowl Live in Minneapolis in 2018 (took 12 semis to carry the pieces to Minneapolis). The crew at Trussworks can install the bridge in a matter of hours. It's an impressive sight!
