    At that point, they should've used a cute spatula or a doefoot instead of the dropper. It's pigmented enough you don't even need the dropper full when it does work.

      Or like a squishy tube that used for lipbalm or hand cream. Its way easier and low cost rather than glass packaging with a dropper.
      Like I own all of the colors, and I am so mad when I literally struggling for 1-2 minute just to squeeze a tiny bit out, and when I do it the way they advised, there's too much product being dispensed.

    • @tokki2901
      @tokki2901 3 года назад +2

      @@akarimingliminjee it would be fugly, but you can get all the product out easily and effectively. To the point that you might get every last drop out.
      With their current packaging? It looks pretty, but its so inconsistent that there would be massive blob that can be used for 3 faces or not even a drop out. And when you used it up (if you are like me and sometimes use blush as eyeshadow/eye base for those asian makeup look), the time there's only like 1/4 product in there, the pump will suck mostly air not the product no matter what you do.
      And if they do it in tube, while its ugly, it can be used by many makeup artists. I never used them on my clients, only on my friends and family, because the glass packaging and the pump is bad. Its a shame because they have lots of pretty color that can be used by diff skin colors.
      So in the end, I would rather have fugly looking container but drops of gold inside it.

    I feel like the fact the product name has the word "serum" in it, they probably felt like it needed to have a dropper, unfortunately they didn't take in to account how well that would work with the product itself

    I just feel like the dropper is actively worsening the situation over time, because the formula is so thick and the dropper is constantly putting air into the product and drying it out even more with all the pumping it in and out while trying to get anything out of it! X

  • @mouratidis.5297
    @mouratidis.5297 3 года назад +45

    Honestly, I'm not even mad at the dropper and never had any issues with it. That's how a dropper is supposed to be used for maximum results. Release the air outside of your product and then put the dropper in. When you squeeze your dropper inside the product, if it is too thick, the air bubble cannot travel through the product and stays at the end of the dropper thus not allowing any liquids to be sucked into the dropper.

  • @hyldrklein451
    @hyldrklein451 3 года назад +117

    If they really reaaally want to keep the round bottle and gold cap aesthetic, they can just make it into an airless pump. Since the bottle itself isn't fully filled up anyway, they can insert the capsule of the product inside then change the gold dropper into a pump of a similar shape.

    • @makeupandbeautea
      @makeupandbeautea 3 года назад +7

      Or they can just get rid of the pump and add a doe foot

  • @Kat-fx3mk
    @Kat-fx3mk 3 года назад +127

    I would instinctively take the dropper out of the bottle, push the button down to get rid of air, put it back into the bottle still holding the button down and then release the button to suck the product in, take it out and dispense on my hand by pushing the button where this time you are squeezing the blush out instead of air. Just like with any other dropper, first squeeze the top to push the air out and then suck the product in. I don’t want to defend EM cosmetics too much because I do think the product is too thick for a dropper and other type of packaging would work better but sometimes it is also users really not using the product correctly.

    What's happening is that if you hit the button while it's in the product. The air in the glass tube pushes the product away. Where if you follow their direction. The glass tube is far enough away from the product that it does not disturb the product. Then with the button pressed down and then put back in the bottle, it can then pull up the product. The stoper is not actually sealed completely so it's prone to air in the cap.

    This video was frustrating but not because of the packaging and product. Its because who the heck hasn't used a dropper that you expel the air BEFORE you put it in the product to suck it up. Do people really not get air displacement? When nurses draw medicines up for a shot, they don't plunge air into the vial before sucking it up, they expel all of the air out before putting it in to draw up the juice. Em's QR code instructions clearly work (at least with new bottles). Hailey just kept putting the dropper all the way down before depressing the button. When she did it as instructed, it came out nicely.
    .
    Should they change the packaging? Probably. But not because it's a bad design per se, but because people can't figure out how to use it and it's not worth the PR nightmare. Like Hailey wouldn't know to lift the dropper up a bit before depressing the button. 🙄🙄

    Feel like there's a lot of plain user error here, as I personally instinctively empty all the air from dropper applicators first (serums, oils, etc) and then suck up product to make sure I get a full dropper's worth of product, even if I don't need a full dropper's worth. It's just like filling a pipette in a science class. However, I think they should have just done a standard rubber top dropper instead of a button- i think the button is much harder to use and less intuitive than a standard dropper and a rubber topped one would still fit the aesthetic they're going for I believe. You're still likely to get extra air in the packaging over time with other application methods like a doe foot or spatula, the only way to avoid that is with a pump or squeeze tube 🤷🏻

    You can buy long disposable plastic bulb droppers from craft stores for future makeup breakups. It would allow you to get the product into the measuring cylinder and then back out to put back into the original packaging. 💕 Some companies seem to go for packaging aesthetics rather than ease of use.

    i think what frustrates me is that yes, instinctively i would also pull the stopper out first to let out the air and THEN plunge it back down to suck the product up, but keeping it down as you press the stopper to exhale the air SHOULD work if the product is thin enough. if the product is too thick to allow the air bubble to release it shouldn't use a stopper mechanism. if the product ages and thickens over time, i feel like the developers should've considered it beforehand.

    Okay I'm no expert, and I've never used this product (but I still love watching your videos), the problem is that the packaging is probably too small, added the fact that the product is thick, for air to go anywhere when the dropper is closed.
    Hence, why the instruction is for the dropper to be 2/3 of the way in, to enable the air to escape (with that slight gap between the bottle and dropper). The dropper is too short too and the cap is too long, which could prevent air from escaping.
    I'm basing this off how I often use dropper type products, where, I'll squeeze out the air out of the dropper and while pinching the dropper, put it into the product and get the whole dropper filled with products.
    In science, it's probably called air displacement (like those in a science pipette,correct me if I'm wrong). In order for fluid to enter, you need to get rid of the air that's in the space by squeezing/pressing the dropper.
    Serums tend to be clear and not as thick, so we can see the amount of fluid displacing the air (also the dropper are usually longer), which ain't a lot if we press/squeeze the dropper while it's in the serum. However when air is removed completely, fluid can occupy the space.
    I'm no expert, just my understanding how this works and what could be the problem ✌🏻😊
    But yes, Packaging needs to be revamped. Not necessarily the dropper, but potentially the bottle too ✌🏻

    This is really interesting. I have had a hair product come in a package similar to this, except when you screwed it closed, there was a feature built into the lid that suctioned the button DOWN so that you didn’t have to fight with this weird set of steps. Had I seen an add for this Em product, I would have assumed this bottle they have used would have done the same thing.

  • @ChibiChidorii

    I think the problem is viscosity. just look at 14:18 and how much bubbles the product has. that means there's air trapped inside the dropper that you can't get out even if you use it properly because the product holds bubbles that you probably cant shake out. honestly it looks like it has that consistency that makes more bubbles if you shake it out or blow the air out of the dropper, so then it sucks up more bubbles. that's why it will sometimes just plop a single drop.
    also considering the pigmentation and type of product a functioning dropper would just dispense too much product. it should have a doe foot or just be a tube.

    Packaging that really annoys me is Clinique super balanced foundation! It’s a thick glass, square bottle and there’s so much foundation left in the bottle, even after leaving it upside down for days. I ended up getting a glass cutter to open the bottle and I got another 3-4 applications out of it.

    With this product, I know that I would just end up using the dropper as a spatula, rubbing it on my finger or face and avoid the mechanism all together. I had this kind of a dropper on a serum before and it worked really well, but the serum was basically a bit thicker than water and the bottle and liquid was transparent so you always saw how much was in the pipette.
